U13's defeated in opening round of Hurling Championship

Bride Rovers 0-5 Russell Rovers 2-9

We played this as home last Monday night against a stronger Russell Rovers side. The first half we played with a strong wind however Russell Rovers scored the first 3 points. Shane was unlucky not to hit the target on a number of occasions. Our back line were under a lot of pressure with Ben having to make a number of saves and Cian Jordan and Joe having to be at their best as Russell Rovers attacked. Eoin scored our opening point then Brian pointing 2 frees and Conor scoring from play. Adam and Beineon had to do a lot of running a midfield throughout the half.
We had the worst start to the second half as Russell Rovers scored 2 -2 with no reply. Patrick Conleth and Christopher were playing well pushing forward as much as possible. While Shaun Tom and Richard were chasing everything in the forward line. Russell Rovers went on to score 4 points while Peter got our only score in the second half getting a point.

U16's bow out of Championship

Our U16's played Mayfield on the 13th July in the quarter final of the hurling championship. The game was played after a lot of rain in Watergrasshill but the pitch was in good order. We were short 2 players due to holidays, but we had 3 subs on the night. We battled hard all over the field in the 1st half and the game was very even for 20 minutes, until Mayfield broke through for a goal. This was followed quickly by a point. Shane Walsh and William Finnegan kept us in touch on the scoreboard with a few points, and we trailed 1.7 to 6 points at half time.

Mayfield started strongly in the 2nd half and added a few points from frees. We were chasing the game from then, but with Tagdh O'Sullivan, Cian O'Connor and James Barry flying and supported well by Ryan and all our backs, we still had a chance. Our mid field and forwards were finding it hard to get through for the all important goal but none of them could be faulted for effort. We owned the sliothar for the last 10 minutes and we left a few points after us in search of goals. We were beaten on a score line of 1.13 to 0.8 points. The 18 lads can be proud of this battling performance, but you need to win to progress, and we wish Mayfield all the best in the rest of the campaign.
