Bride Rovers GAA notes April 17th

RUN , JOG OR WALK ON SUNDAY
Sunday next April 22nd is a Red Letter day for the Bride Rovers GAA Club when we stage the first ever running of the Bride 10 Road Race.(sponsored by Jump Juice Bars)  With the last few years various fund raisers have been held by the Club to help finance the ongoing Development work in our grounds, Pairc na Bride and our Club building, Áras de Barra. In these difficult financial times it is very difficult to repay major borrowing so the Club has adopted a policy of steady ongoing work, stage-by-stage -as finances will allow. We received a huge boost last year in the form of generous Grant Aid from the Parish Development Fund. This allowed the completion of the hurling wall and new Astro Turf Area, both of which have been of great benefit to all club teams. With further development plans in the pipeline for the future next Sunday's race is part of an ongoing fundraising effort.
On Sunday next all runners and walkers are welcome to Rathcormac for the first Annual Bride 10K Run/Walk. If you are a budding Olympian or just want to try and shed a few pounds the Bride run is for you.
The course has a climb for the first 4km after that it is mainly down hill or flat. The flag will be raised for the start at Pairc na Bride at 12 noon. After that it is through the main Street in Rathcormac, up Quarter Lane and on for Mondaniel and Toberneague. The route turns left at Toberneague Cross and on to Barnahash and Ballybrowney. It gets a bit easier then as the route descends to the Moulane road and turns left for the GAA Grounds once more. The Roads will not be closed to traffic so all athletes should obey the rules of the road. Stewards and Gardaí will be on hand to assist with traffic and encourage runners on route.
The cost of the event is €10 per runner, entries will be also taken on the day from 10am -11.45am at Bride Rovers GAA club house. .
Prizes are on offer to the first three men and women. There will also be prizes offered to the first two men and women in the following categories, U19's, 40+, 50+ and 60+.
Prizes giving, Refreshments and showers will be provided at the GAA clubhouse after the race. For those wishing to travel to Thurles later to see Brian Murphy and his Cork Colleagues take on Tipp in the League Semi Final rest assured you will be in plenty time after the Race. With the M8 Motorway so close by Thurles is only fifty minutes from Rathcormac. All Club Members who are available on Sunday morning are asked to be at the Pitch by 10 o clock to help out with stewarding.

Avondhu/Imokilly Junior Hurling League Division 1 V Ballyhooley.
We played our fourth. game in the Inter Divisional JHL on Thurs last when our Avondhu neighbours Ballyhooley made the short journey to Pairc na Bride to fulfil the above fixture.
We were once again tight on numbers and had only 17 players due to injuries and the fact that the Minor hurlers were away playing Inniscarra in Co League game.
We opened brightly and within 5 minutes had 1-3 on the board but during the next 10 minutes we fell into arrears due to a fortuitous goal, which came from a blocked clearance, which finished up in the net. Both teams then exchanged scores, point for point but a further goal conceded from a mishandled free into our square saw us behind at half time by 2-8 to 1-8. Two further Ballyhooley white flags early in the second half saw us 5 points behind. A change of tactics saw us take control in the middle of the field and this opened up the visitors defence and two excellent goals by Terry and Alan followed by some wonderful points by Richie meant we had a comfortable 4 point lead entering the final minutes. Ballyhooley finished strongly but we held out and eventually won by 3-13 to 3-12.
Team: Gavin Quill, Fergus Collins, Tomas Kearney, Barry Collins, James Murphy, Brendan O'Driscoll, Jim O'Connor, Gavin O'Flynn, Stephen Boyce, Michael Kearney, Richie Cahill, Terry Broderick, James Hogan, Alan O'Keeffe and Stephen Pratt.
Subs: Sean O'Brien and Brian Lahive.
Scorers: Stephen Boyce 1-6, Alan O'Keeffe 1-1, Terry Broderick 1-0, Richie Cahill 0-3, Michael Kearney 0-2, Stephen Pratt 0-1.
We now have two wins, a draw and a loss in our games played.

Senior Lose out to Courceys.
We played Courcey Rovers at home on Sunday afternoon last in Pairc na Bride. After a high scoring contest we lost out by a margin of two points. We scored 16 times to the visitors twelve -but they got 3 9 to our 16 points.
WE are away to Newtownshandrunm on this Saturday night April 21st at 7pm.
Minors Well Beaten.
Our Minor Hurling team are finding the going tough competing in the Eastern Section of the County Minor A Hurling League. On last Thursday night we were away to Inniscarra at their venue in Ballyanley. We had a very bright start and led by 2 points to 1 after a few minutes. After this Inniscarra took over and ran out easy winners. Our team lined out as follows; Frank Hogan, Padraig Noonan, Jack Kearney, Colm Howard, Eoin Howard, Cian O Connor, Sean Cotter, David Quinn, Tadhg O Sullivan, Ryan Prendergast, William Finnegan, Liam O Leary, Colm Power, Cian Howard, Darren Moore.
