BRIDE ROVERS GAA CLUB NOTES.

DOUGLAS GAME OFF

The 2012 County Senior Hurling League was to have commenced for us this weekend with a home fixture against Douglas. Unfortunately due to the city sides involvement in the u21 football championship they were unable to play the game on either Saturday or Sunday so the game goes off.Last Sunday we played a practise game against Tipperary side Mullinahone in Rathcormac After a poor first half during which we were aided with a strong breeze the score was level at half time at 7 points each. In the second period our lads put in a much improved performance and added nine further points while the visitors doubled their tally to leave the final score Bride Rovers ran out winners on a scoreline of 16 points to 14 points.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL

Our first round game in the East Cork Junior A Grade Football championship against Aghada has been fixed for Friday night March the 23rd. The time and venue have not been finalised yet.

MINOR FOOTBALL.

Our Minor Footballers played two game in the Co B League. On Saturday evening we were away to Ballinora and were well beaten on a scoreline of 3 6 to 0 2. On Monday night we travelled to Pairc Naomh Caitrionaigh in Ballynoe to play St. Catherines under lights. This was actually a home fixture for us but in order to get the game played at an earlier date we conceded home advantage. Thos was our fifth game in the league and having suffered four heavy defeats it was great to have a competitive game between two evenly matched teams. At the end of the contest the teams were level on a scoreline of Bride Rovers 2 7 to St. Catherines 1 10. The team line-outs were as follows.V Ballinora; Frank Hogan, Eoin Howard, Jacob Macak, Padraig Noonan, Sean Cotter, Cian O Connor,Jack Kearney, David Quinn, Adrian Buckley, Tadhg O Sullivan, William Finnegan, Stephen O Leary, Darren Moore, Liam O Leary, Colm Howard. Sub Jamie Buckley.
V St. Catherines; Frank Hogan, Eoin Howard, Jacob Macak, Padraig Noonan, Sean Cotter, Cian O Connor, Jack Kearney, David Quinn, Tadhg O Sullivan, William Finnegan, Stephen O Leary, Jamie Buckley, Shane Walsh, Darren Moore, Liam O Leary,. Subs Colm Power & Colm Howard. Our next scheduled game in this League is against Sliabhrua on St. Patricks weekend at a date and time to be confirmed. It is obvious even at this early stage of the year that serious problems are in evidence in the Grading of teams. Teams who should be at least one grade higher are playing at a lower level and very lop sided results are happening each week.
The Co Minor Hurling League is set to commence on the last weekend of March.
Well done to Frank Hogan and his St. Colmans team-mates on winning the Munster B Senior Colleges football championship recently. Best of luck in the forthcoming All Ireland Semi Final.
