It was mixed weekend of results for our Under16 boys teams with games on Saturday and Sunday.
Under 16 D4 v Ballincollig.
Our D4 team played v Ballincollig on Saturday in their first hurling league game. The game was evenly contested for the first 15 minutes with scores tough to come by. Ballincollig opened the scoring with a point which was equalised by a Fionn Lynch free. A physically bigger Ballincollig then took over scoring a couple of goals which we found it hard to recover from. Zach did well in goals, Jack D and himself both broke their hurleys so an expensive weekend for both sets of parents! We had 7 subs so all players got a decent run and we were treated to some great points by Ethan and Luke plus a couple of frees from Fionn Lynch so it was a decent overall performance.....just the lack of scoring which will come with more training time on the pitch.
Under 16 Premier2 v Youghal. (Report by Rian Spmers)
We travelled to Youghal...again with the P2s for our first league game on Sunday. This was tough for the lads that had played 24 hours earlier but they performed well to aid a great team performance. Finn got our first score of the game from a free in the first minute and had another free on the 9th. This was followed with a point from play by Oliver but we then had a lull in scoring until a free again in the 23rd minute. Calum had a great save in this period which kept us in touch with Youghal team that started to dominate. We had a couple of goal opportunities which went abegging which left us behind by a couple of points at half time. In fairness to the lads our backs were showing great tenacity in their tackling and really kept us in the game. Fionn Lynch started the second half off with a great poachers goal in the 33rd minute which gave the lads great belief. Fionn followed this up with a point before Fionn Collins got in on the scoresheet with a point and started to show some great support play in the corner. 2 frees from Finn had us level before Cody put us ahead with a monster free in the 52nd minute. We finished the game with 3 unanswered points from Finn, a great score from Evan who came off the bench and Michael to finish with a 1-12 to 12 point win. Our next game is a D4 football league game v St. Finbarrs in Togher next Sunday at 2 pm.

UNDER 14 FOOTBALL v ARAGLEN/KILWORTH.
Venue: Bride Rovers new pitch
Weather: Unseasonably warm with Northerly breeze
This was our First match played under the New Rules, to which the boys adapted well. The nature of the rules lead to an almost continuous flow without breaks. The team played well, with a running game where they supported each other well.
They played the first half with the wind in what was a pretty even-sided game. Kilworth/Araglen failed to convert a number of chances which would have made it closer at the end of the first half, but BR's managed to pull out a 3 point lead.
We tended to kick-pass when a hand-pass would have been more accurate but they took their scores well and we also were finding all of our kick-outs which allowed us to play more in the K/A half.
One change was made 5 mins before half-time bringing Tommy Conway on for Harry O'Keeffe. This resulted in Tommy going into Half-back for Sean Healy and he moved to Half-forward for David Aherne, who moved into Harrys Left-Corner forward position. In the second half again the boys worked really hard in particular they disrupted a lot of the K/A attacks by working back and never giving up, which turned over a good number of balls.
BR eventually started to pull away as they started to take their chances including some very well taken scores.
Overall a great team performance in our first outing of the year and work rate was rate a joy to watch in a very sporting match. Bride Rover 0.14 Kilworth 1.6
CORK v GALWAY. There should be a huge crowd for the last round of the National Hurling League next Saturday night when Galway come Leeside. Who wants to be in the League Final? Years back a National Hurling League winners medal was a prized possession. Nowadays because of the Split Season and an Aptrl start to the championship many counties view reaching the NHL Final as a distraction! That’s pity – I remember the great Clare team of the 1970’s -they won back to back League titles and winning them meant so much to the players

GER FITZGERALD RIP.
Our deepest sympathy goes to the family of Midleton and Cork Hurler Ger Fitzgerald who died following an illness. Ger was a great servant to the Magpies and the Rebels winning All Irelands in 1986 and 19990 and four County SH titles with Midleton whom he also coached to win a County Senior. His father Paddy was a team mate of Seanie Barry back in 1966 when Cork won the Liam McCarthy Cup. A great hurler and a great personality all in Bride Rovers extend sympathy to the Fitzgerald family.
