Big games for Junior Teams..
I suppose you could call it the ‘business end’ of the playing season, the Round Robins are done and dusted and from now on as we head towards October it’s Knock-out Championship games all the a way except for the under 21 hurling which hasn’t commenced yet. This coming weekend our two Junior teams are in Championship action in East Cork. The Junior A team are in a Quarter Final and the Junior C’s in the semi final. There’s a weekend Harvest Festival in Bartlemy and plenty underage action so it really is all systems go.
EAST CORK JUNIOR SEMI FINAL.
Having won the East Cork Division 2 Junior Hurling League earlier this year the Junior A team faced into the Championship in confident mood. The here ‘single’ team in this championship Carrignavar, Cobh and St.Itas are all obviously the favourites and we had the 2023 Champions Carrignavar in our group. With just 8 teams in the Championship winning at least 1 group game was vital. We achieved this with a good win over Carrigtwohill in Carignavar on the August Bank Holiday Monday. We played well in Round 2 in Glenville but Carrignavar were too strong. We met Killeagh in Round 3 having lost 4 player to the Senior team at this stage. Our win over Carrig the first day earned up a quarter final spot and on Friday night we face a very tough encounter. Our opponents are St Itas with Cork Senior star Seamie Harnedy starring for them. We met the Gortroe side in Cloyne last year and gave them a great game. Look it’s always a huge challenge plying a ‘first’ team but it’s great to be in the knock out stages of the Competition. The game is fixed for Castlelyons on Friday evening at 7.30pm with Cathal McAllister as ref. Go for it lads.
JUNIOR C QUARTER FINAL.
On Sunday our third XV play the quarter final of the East Cork Championship when they meet Lisgoold’s second team. We have played three games to qualify for this stage of the competition. In round 1 we had a home game against Russell Rovers in Pairc na Bride. We had a six point lead towards the end of the match but the other Rovers rose the white flags six times to earn a draw. We then travelled to Cobh on a wet night to take on the home side and had a great win. Our third game was against Fr O Neills in their new pitch in Aghavine and we won by 4 25 to 0 13. We have a large panel of players for the Junior C team which is great. Facing the second string of Lisgoold is a huge task but the lads are up for it so go for it lads. The game is fixed for Dungourney at 11 o clock on Sunday morning.
GAA 140.
This year, 2024, marks the 140th Anniversary of the founding of the GAA in 1884. The first meeting was held in Hayes’ Hotel n Thurles on November the 1st 1884. No special commemorative events have yet been announced. The All Stars Function is pencilled in for Nov 1st this year so there may be a special celebration on that night.

A HURLERS PRAYER.
Give me o 'Lord a hurlers skill
With strength of arm and speed of limb
Unerring eye for the flying ball
And courage to match them whatever befall
May my aim be steady - my stroke be true
My actions manly - my misses few
And no matter what way the game may go
May I part in friendship with every foe
When the final whistle for me is blown
And I stand at last at Gods Judgement Throne
May the great Referee when he calls my name
Say you hurled like a man, you played the game
