Two Outa Three ain't Bad !..
On what was the busiest Championship week we’ve probably ever had our three hurling teams were  in action -on Friday, Saturday and Monday nights. Truly it was hectic with our teams and supporters on the roads to Ballynoe, Glenville and Cobh.  We recorded two wins with the Seniors and Junior C’s while the Junior A team lost to the reigning East Cork Champions. The scorelines were as follows; Senior A hurling Championship Bride Rovers 1 21 Castlelyons 1 10, Junior A East Cork Championship Carrignavar 0 24 Bride Rovers 1 12,     Junior C East Cork Hurling Championship Bride Rovers 3 12 Cobh 0 6. Ah yes indeed it was some programme in a few days and we also had a County Championship in the pitch on Sunday but sure it’s better to be busy than bored!
SENIOR HURLING.
A huge crowd turned up in Ballynoe on Friday night for the Local Derby game between the Rovers and Castlelyons. It was our first Championship meeting  in the Senior Grade with fifteen years. Since the County Championship Draws were made last December this was the game looked forward to all along the Bride Valley. We had a great start and led by 1 3 to  a point after 11 minutes-Adam Walsh combined with Cillian Tobin for the goal.  Though we were hurling well we conceded a lot of frees, far too many, and in truth we were lucky that more of those frees didn’t end up as white flags. We had a five point lead at half time and with the breeze more across the pitch neither team had any great advantage. Castlelyons had an early point on the resumption but we then outscored them by 6 points to 2  as we approached half ways in the second half.  The game seemed to lack the intensity we expected but our lads kept hurling well and adding some good points to lead by 1 15 to 0 8 with twelve minutes left.  Our backs were solid and the forwards combined well to keep the scoreboard ticking over. Castlelyons added 1 2 near the end but we held on to win by 1 21 to 1 10. Nobody expected such a result in fairness. We have two Group wins now but face a stiff test the week after next when we’ll be back in Ballynoe to face Fermoy in Round 3. Well done lads.

JUNIOR A HURLING.
On Saturday night in Glenville our Junior A Hurlers took on the reigning East Cork Champions Carrignavar in Round 2 of the East Cork JHC.  After a ggod win over Carrigtwohill in Round 1 we went into this game but found Carrignavar too hot to handle. They took an early grip with some good points but gradually our lads got into their stride and we drew level Most of the first half was even and it was 0 7 apiece at the short whistle. After the break Carrig upped their game playing down from the road and hit over some long range scores. We kept plugging away and a Knoxy goal  narrowed the gap. In the end Carrig won by 0 24 to 1 12. I t was always going to be a tough task but we still have a chance to progress to the knock out stages when we meet Killeagh in our third Group game -fixed for Ballynoe on Sunday 8th of September. Team: D Dooley, L Collins, M Liddane, E O’Connor, K Cotter, W Finnegan, F Collins, C O’Sullivan, K Kearney, D Buckley (0-1), C O’Connor (0-1), Cillian Barry (0-1), Conor Barry (0-7 (5,fs, 1, 65)), S Knox (1-1, (1-0,f)), B Knox Subs: M Collins, E Cashman (0-1), A Hynes, A Hayes
JUNIOR C HURLING
We travelled to Cobh on Monday evening for our 2nd round match in the Junior C Hurling Championship. It was a horrible evening and the wet, windy and in the end very dark evening made for tough hurling conditions.
Our lads won the toss and chose to play with the wind and we took full advantage of it early on with Cameron getting trough for a goal in the 2nd minute. Tom, Kamso & Oran followed up with points to see us into a 1-3 to nil lead after 10 minutes. Cobh rallied and got the next three points from placed balls before a point from Jordan in the 20 minute which would end up being the last score of the first half. Both teams were trying hard but conditions were not improving and the heavy mist going down the pitch was effecting both teams.
We turned to play into the wind and our backs were defending solidly and were holding Cobh forwards. It was the 40 minute mark before Oran got the opening score of the 2nd half before Cobh responded with a point. Cameron got through the defence again for his 2nd goal of the evening which he followed quickly with a point saw us to finally open up a bit of a lead,2-6 to 4 points.
Frank got another point before Oran scored two more sandwiched between two points from Cobh. The last few minutes were played with rapidly fading light but the lads continued to pile on the pressure on Cobh. Two points from Darragh before Oran got his 5th had us leading 2-12 to 6 points. Darragh topped of a fine performance by the team getting our 3rd goal with the last puck of the game in semi darkness.  In reality the score-board didn’t do Cobh justice as this was a very tough game played in great spirit.
Team: R O’Riordan, J Kearney, B Collins, C O’Sullivan, J Mannix (0-1), L Forde, O Roche, O Kielty (0-5), L Harrington, K Obi (0-1), T Macak (0-1), F O’Flynn (0-1), C Swalbe-O’Sullivan (2-1), J Buckley, Alan Barry. Subs; D O’Sullivan (1-2), G Gubbins, C O’Dowd, D Kelleher. We’ve got a Walkover from St Itas in our last Group game so we are in the knockout stage now.
BUSY AUGUST for the under14s.
Four  games so far in August for the  under14s, with our last football league match to come this Thursday evening when we are away to Fermoy.
In hurling we've played Erins Own, Sars and Shandrum . In football we played a really strong Midleton team .
On August 9th we travelled to Caherlag to play Erins Own.  After a very physical hours hurling we lost on a scoreline of Bride Rovers 1-7 Erins Own 2-15. The game was closer than the score suggests but we found scores hard to come by and Erins Own got the vital scores at crucial times..
On Monday August the 19th we hosted Sars in a game postponed from April. The lads put on a huge performance over the hour and won on a scoreline of Bride Rovers 2-13 Sars 3-9.
It was great to get a win on the board after a season that has seen us come out on the wrong side of tight games way too often. In fairness despite several narrow defeat the lads have never stopped and their efforts and commitment never waned. On last Thursday 22nd we played Shandrum at home in our final league game.  After the win on Monday we were keen to build on that and finish the season well. Shandrum are at the top of the group so once again a big effort would be needed. The rain started just before throw-in and only got worse during the game! Shandrum got an early goal but the lads settled and were 5 points up at half-time.  Against the wind in the second half it was always going to be hard and Shandrum got a few scores but the team defended excellently and made it very hard for them. The game ended in a draw with both teams having chances to win it late on. Final score; Bride Rovers 2-5 Shandrum 3-2. We have a League Football game v Fermoy in Fermoy on tonight Thursday at 7pm.

Bridevale Athletic Club  “Thank You”
On behalf of the Bridevale Committee, we would like to thank all the wonderful volunteers who made our 4 mile road race a brilliant success once again, even in difficult conditions on last Thursday night. If you baked, made sandwiches, helped with the set up and clean up, helped around the Hall and village or around the route, put up the signs and take them down, we would extend our gratitude. It’s a great sign of a community when we get together to run such a successful event.  Thanks again, the Bridevale Committee.

The aim of the group is to put on events and activities for children and young adults with additional needs. Complimentary teas and coffees will be available. There is a great line up of local musicians and bands who will provide some lovely music all day long.
MINOR HURLING Last Wednesday Bride Rovers travelled to Shanagarry to take on St Colman’s  (Cloyne/ Russell Rovers) in the third round of this years minor hurling championship, the game was played in the tail end of a hurricane with wind and rain driving up the grounds  towards the school end of the Russel Rovers pitch, Bride Rovers won the toss and elected to take advantage of the elements for the first half. Bride Rovers opened the scoring with a point but within 7 minutes St Colman’s bagged two opportunistic goals to take a commanding lead, Bride Rovers started paring back the lead but as both teams sought refuge in the dressing rooms at half time Bride Rovers still trailed by 3
The second half showcased the very best of the lads in the very worst of the conditions as they battled back to gain parity with one minute of game time remaining, however as they pushed for the win St Colman’s broke twice to clip two scores, Bride Rovers defeated but unbowed on a score line of St Colman’s 2-10 Bride Rovers 1-11

BALLYHEA SPIRIT.
Back in 2003 when Jack Russell trained us to win the County IHC we learned of the indomitable, never say die spirit of the team in Black and White. Well on Sunday last Jack was back in Rathcormac to see his beloved Ballyhea win a dramatic SHC game v Killeagh. When it looked all over Gavin Morrissey hit a last minute goal which gave the North Cork side a one point win, mighty stuff.
