Wins for Seniors & Juniors..
It was great hurling weekend for the Bride Rovers Club with brilliant Championship wins for both our Senior and Junior A Hurlers. We began a hectic weekend with the Cul Camp finishing on Friday. Then on Friday evening Pairc na Bride hosted a huge crowd for the ‘Local Derby’ clash of Castlelyons and Fermoy in the County SAHC. Thanks to all who helped out on the night. It was off to Pairc Ui Chinneide in  Killeagh then on Saturday for the game v Cloyne. We had a great win on the night. On Bank Holiday Monday we were ar an bother aris go Carraig na bhFear  for our East Cork Oil JAHC game against Carrignavar.  After finishing level at the break we went on to record a great win.  Days like those are great occasions to be enjoyed.
SENIORS WINNING START.
County Senior A Hurling Championship Round 1. Bride Rovers 2 29 Cloyne  0 12.
On Saturday evening last in a perfectly prepared Killeagh pitch we played Cloyne in the first round of the senior A hurling championship. After a tense opening 10 minutes we got to grips with the pace of the game and had opened up a four point lead when we got our opening goal from Louie. The goal gave us breathing space and with the strong breeze at our back we were able to extend the lead further, although Cloyne had nine wides in the first half alone.  We led by 2 14  0 5 at half time having used the wind to our advantage-our second goal was scored by Ronan.

The second half started very slowly with both teams missing opportunities, Cloyne were then reduced to fourteen men, which meant the rest of the game was played at low intensity. Next up in championship is Castlelyons to be played on Friday 23rd of August in Ballynoe.  Team & Scorers; C. Hogan, D. Cashman 0 1 , E. Roche, J. Peters 0 1 , C. Hazlewood,, B Roche, S O Connor 0 1, J. Mannix ,D. Barry 0 1 , C.Ryan 0 2, J. Ahern 0 2, P O Flynn 0 5 , R O Connell 1 4 , A.Walsh 0 7, 5 from frees, L. Roche 1 1. Sub T O Sullivan.
JUNIORS BEAT CARRIG.
We started our East Cork Junior A championship Round Robin campaign playing Carrigtwohill on the Bank holiday Monday in Carrignavar. It was a wet morning but luckily the day dried up for the match.
We started the game brightly and two points from Cillian Tobin either side of a side line cut expertly put over by Shaun Knox saw us into a 3 points to 1 lead after five minutes. Cillian Barry got our next two points before Conor Barry got two frees left the score 7 points to 3 after twenty minutes. Our defence were well in control with Eldon, Mike and Liam steady out. Just when it looked we would pull away it was the men in  Blue and Gold who tore into the game. The rest of the first half belonged to Carrigtwohill who hit 4 points in a row and could have taken the lead. Their tally in that ten minutes left the sides level at the break 7 points apiece.
Kieran Kearney was introduced at the break and had an immediate impact getting the first two points of the second half. Carrigtwohill got a 21 yard free and they went for goal only for Fergus to get hurley to stop the ball on the line. Damian Buckley and Conor got points either side of a Carrig point to restore our three point lead on the 40th minute mark- the Carrig point came from a penalty shot. Conor got another point before a shot from Cillian Tobin was saved by the Carrigtwohill goalie but Shaun was fastest to respond and doubled on the ball to get the opening goal of the game. Another point from Shaun and Cillian Tobin had us into a seven point lead with ten minutes remaining and when Michael Collins doubled on a high ball into the net with his first touch of the game it gave us a ten point lead things were looking good. Cillian Barry added two more points while Carrigtwohill never gave up and got the last few scores of the game to leave the final score 2-16 to 0-14 points.  It was great to get a win in our first game. We have two games still to play in the group against Carrignavar and KIlleagh. Well done lads and it was great to see such a huge Rovers support at the game. Team & Scorers; D Dooley, E O'Connor, M Liddane, L Collins, K Cotter, C O'Connor, A Hynes, F Collins, C O'Sullivan, Cillian Barry (0-4), C Tobin (0-3), D Buckley (0-1), Conor Barry (0-4fs), S Knox (1-2) (1 sl), A Hayes,  Subs K Kearney (0-2), M Collins (1-0)

UNDER 12’s BUSY.
The U12s Team 1 played their fourth league game of the season against Douglas last Friday evening. Douglas got off to a great start and went 4 points up in the first 12 mins. Our lads were growing slowly into the game but hit a few wides during this time. Douglas got a goal on 16 mins to make it 1-4 to 0-0. Within a minute, Noah Collins responded with 1-1 which put Rovers back within a score. However, Douglas hit the back of the net again immediately to make it 2-4 to 1-1. Rovers responded well with two fine points from Conor Healy who was now moved up to midfield. Half time: Douglas 2-4 Bride Rovers 1-3. Douglas started the second half really well and has 1-2 on the scoreboard within 5 mins. Noah responded with a free to make it 3-6 to 1-4 and it remained this way for quite a while as both teams missed opportunities. Our lads were now starting to feel it in the legs and you wouldn't blame them after a long week of Cul Camp. Douglas went on to add 2-7 in the last 10 mins but Rovers did respond with a well taken Seán O'Dowd goal and a Jack Gubbins free. Final score: Douglas 5-13 Rovers 2-5.  This week, there is hurling training on Monday morning at 10.30 in the Juvenile Pitch.  Team 2 plays football on Thursday night against St.Finbarrs 2 at the Barrs at 8pm. Team 1 then plays hurling on Saturday against Nemo Rangers at 11.30am.

UNDER 16’s v THE BARRS
.
Bride Rovers Under16s commenced their hurling championship campaign on Monday last with a stern test against St Finbarrs in Togher.  Having defeated the 'Barrs earlier in the league campaign hopes were high leading into the game.  This was a more focussed and energetic St Finbarrs team though and they had our lads on the back foot from the outset with an early goal and a point.  The Rovers worked their way back into it and got it back to level after ten minutes. It was a highly competitive first half although we inched ahead just before the break and led 1-7 to 1-5.  The half time break energised our lads and they started to get on top in the early part of the second half. The Rovers soon got into their stride settling well into their positions.  We contained the Togher side to just six points in the second half and we added  2. 7 to our half time tally.  Great hurling and a combined team effort saw us take the win on a 3-14 to 1-11 scoreline.  Next up is away in Araglin to Kilara Óg in football.  Panel: Calum Somers, Eoghan Buckley, Jammie Walsh, Darragh O'Farrell, Éanna Lyons, Denis Fitzgerald, Donagh Hurley, Garry Quirke, Cathal Barry, Michéal Walsh, Shane O'Dowd, Matthew Kenny, Adam Kelleher, Jack Lynch, Con McCormack, Euan O'Grady, Danny Walsh.
CAMOGIE FINALS.
Next Sunday is camogie All Ireland Final Day in Croke Park. Cork are double involved with both the Intermediate and Senior teams involved. The Seniors will be all out to retain the O Duffy Cup in their decider v Galway. The Intermediates face Kilkenny in their Final. Best of luck to Cork. Many camogie fans will be travelling from our parish so have a great day and safe travelling. I cannot understand the timing of Sundays triple decker. The Senior Final has an extremely late throw in time of 5.15 which seems crazy. It means groups travelling on buses will be lucky to be back in Cork by 11 or 12 o clock on Sunday night.
COOL CUL CAMP
Another Cúl Camp has come and gone and it really is one of the best week's of the year in the GAA calendar. With the anticipation of the championship at the end of the week, it is incredible to see 201 children down at the pitch every day for 3 hours. The weather played its part and an incredible 76 volunteers helped out from coaches to supervisors and car parking attendants to assistant coaches. I would challenge any club in the land to match the numbers of people so willing to give of their time to ensure that each of these children have a smile on their face and a strengthened bond with the GAA and their club. As well as hurling and football skills being on display, the children got to play rounders, Olympic handball, tag rugby, ultimate frisbee, nerfball and so many other activities that are not just transferrable to GAA but give the children a love for exercise, fitness and fun. A visit from our own Sarah Murphy, Leah Hallihan, Cillian Tobin and Denis Cashman caused queues on Thursday while Brian and Eoin Roche, along with Niall O'Leary from neighbours Castlelyons, delighted the children on Friday as they signed everything from sliotars to boots. Each child was given a goodie bag before they left and our thanks for this goes to Sponsors, Claire and Charlie Scanlan (Jump Juice), Liam Barry (Fermoy Print and Design), Denis Ahern Hurleys, Linda Ahern, Liam O'Brien (O'Brien Milk Distribution Distribution), Tim Madden (PRL) and Spar Rathcormac. Having our own rulers and green white and gold pencils, all with the Club Crest, was just amazing.  It really was a brilliant week with perfect weather and only a sprinkle of rain.  Huge events like the Cul camp don’t just ‘happen’ -no it took months of preparation and hard work behind the scenes to coordinate everything -thanks to all involved. Thanks too to all the parents, grandparents and relations who provided transport for all the youngsters- truly many hands make light work.
NEW STAND IN DUNGOURNEY.
Congrats to the progressive Dungourney GAA Club who have completed the erection of a New Stand at Jamesy Kelleher Park.  The Stand will be officially opened at 1.30 on Sunday next and is dedicated to Fr Edwin Fitzgibbon. Thomas Fitzgibbon was born in Ballynona in 1874. One of 14 children after his education in Rochestown College he joined the capuchin Order taking the name Fr Edwin. He was a great supporter of Gaelic games, growing up in an area with a huge tradition and would have been a friend of Jamesy Kelleher the legendary Cork and Dungourney hurler. In 1912 Fr Fitzgibbon donated a silver cup for an Inter University Hurling Competition and the Fitzgibbon Cup is still one of he most famous GAA trophies. Fr Edwin was President of UCC Hurling Club for years. He died in 1938. UCC will play Muskerry in the Co SHC in Dungourney on Sunday at 3 o clock. The Fitzgibbon family long associated with Killeagh GAA and the O Donovan family of Terramount, Rathcormac are relatives of Fr Edwin.
 MINOR FOOTBALL.
Bride Rovers travelled to Castlelyons for the first round of this years minor football championship.
Castlelyons started the brighter team but as soon as the lads began to settle into the game they got hit for two sucker punch goals, that gave Castlelyons an eight point lead on the scoreboard at half time. Bride Rovers started much better in the second half and played some great football while all the time narrowing the lead, however the danger of chasing a lead left them open to a counter attack and whilst most were defended admirably Castlelyons did mange to stall the lads comeback by adding to their tally on occasion, however this wasn't the day lady luck shone on Bride Rovers, the lads stuck the right post twice, left post once and had a penalty saved.  All in all a superb second half performance wasn't enough with the final score Castlelyons 4-09 Brde Rovers 3-10 Match Panel   Luke Harrington, David O'Connell, Eanna Lyons, Ronan Barry, Darragh Delaney, Jack Lynch, Tomas O'Riordan, Gearoid O'Connell, Sean Dowling, Conor O'Riordan, Cormac Barry, Rudi Gharib, Shane Prendergast, Jack Mannix, Shane O'Dowd, Adam Cronin, Matthew Kenny, Garry Quirke.
