Club Hurling Championships begin..
The Senior All Ireland Finals in both the hurling and football are all over, done and dusted for 2024 and the celebrations in Calare and Armagh will continue until Christmas at least! A Banner/Orchard Double wouldn’t have been many peoples fancy even a month ago. That’s sport and in the GAA here in Cork of course were disappointed that the ‘gap’ since 2005 still stretches out behind us. No one begrudges Clae their fifth ever Senior All Ireland Title. Similarly with Armagh. Last Sunday they captured the Sam Maguire Cup for just the second time in their proud history. I’ve heard many a song been sung in Croke park on September Sundays since 1972 but ‘ The Boys Of The County Armagh’ last Sunday surpassed all those gone before -both in terms of volume and emotion.  The football game itself was nothing to write home about but Armagh’s win after losing out on penalties so often was indeed special as was the sight of a GAA President holding the Cup aloft with his own son- something we might never see again. Well done Armagh and Kieran McGeeney in articular who is a decade in his position as Armagh manager.

 HURLING PREVIEW
It’s just two years ago since we last met Cloyne in the County Championship. That was in a quarter final in Pairc I Chaoimh and we won well. That game has no bearing n the outcome on next Saturday night. Both ourselves and Cloyne had poor League campaigns this year and both Teams have dropped down a Division for 2025. Cloyne are always a very tough championship side and have proved this down the years. Our lads have prepared well so hopefully the team will do well on the night. The Junior Hurlers won Div 2 of the Hurling League but Carrigtwohill were in Division 1 and finished mid-table. Best of luck to the Junior A and Junior C teams as they begin their respective championship campaigns.
 UNDER 12’s ROAR BACK.
Round 3 of the football meant the visit of Buttevant to Páirc na Bríde last Tuesday and after losing our first two games, this was a significant game in the season. Buttevant had already beaten Glanmire so had a win behind them and started this game well with 2 points inside the first 3 mins. 2 goals in 3 minutes put them firmly in the lead after 8 minutes before Noah Collins scored our first point of the game from a free to make it 2-2 to 0-1 after 10 minutes. Buttevant added two frees of their own on 12 and 14 minutes to go 9 points up.  A few positional changes to counter the Buttevant threat brought our lads storming into the game and Noah Collins added another free to make it 2-4 to 0-2 after 16 minutes. On 18 minutes, Rovers ripped through the Buttevant defence with some great movement and passing between Jack Fitzgerald,  Tommy Conway and Kai Roddis before Jack rattled the net from distance. Noah Collins followed up with a point before getting a goal of his own following good work from Harry O’Keeffe and Thomas Hegarty. Game on! 2-4 to 2-3 in favour of Buttevant at half time.
Within 2 minutes of the restart, Tommy Conway had us level and 2 minutes later, Noah Collins had the ball in the back of the net, after batting the ball in from a Kai Roddis free. Rovers were now 3 points up and dominating. The next 17 minutes provided no scores as both teams went hammer and tongs at each other as the crowd also came to life. Buttevant added a free on the 20 min mark to leave 2 in it but immediately Rovers broke and Kai Roddis ran onto a ball over the top to get a goal. Conor Healy added another from a free before Buttevant ended the game with a free of their own. Final score: Bride Rovers 4-5 Buttevant 2-6. A magnificent victory after coming from 9 points down.
The next game in this group is against Douglas on Fri Aug 2nd. Before that, 28 of this group take part in Cúl Camp so we wish them all the best for the week.

A former Club Chairman David John Barry had a great saying after every juvenile match when giving details of the next game -he always finished with the catch-phrase ‘Tell ‘em all about it’ it’s the same now with the Club Lotto!
UNDER 14’s THRILLER v Carrig.
Our Under14 ‘s were at home to Carrigtwohill in hurling on Friday in Pynes.
The final scoreline after a an epic game was ;Bride Rovers 4-10 Carrigtwohill 3-14
Despite a superb second half display the under14s came up short by the minimum.  The first half cost us as we were down by 6 points at half-time. A lack of intensity just gave Carrigtwohill too much space to take their scores. Half-time score Bride Rovers 2-5 Carrigtwohill 3-8.
We asked the lads for a massive improvement on the second half and in fairness to them all the lads lifted it. Our backs and midfield shut down the Carrig attack and our forwards put some great moves together to get great scores. However we just came up short after a great 30 mins of hurling. Thanks to Henry and Killian for stepping up from the u13s. Our next game is Erins Own away on 9th Aug.

CUL CAMP.
What a glorious week it’s been for the 200 youngsters attending the annual Cul Camp. Apart from a few drops of rain on Monday it’s been sunshine all the way.  It’s a fabulous sight every day to see so many  boys and girls learning the skills of Gaelic games and enjoying themselves bigtime. Tanks to all those who put in so much time in organising the event -it just doesn’t ‘happen, months of effort and preparation have gone into this. In his Sam Maguire Cup presentation speech in Croke park last Sunday GAA President Jarlath Burns acknowledged the wonderful work being done by GAA volunteers all across the country
MINOR HURLING.
Bride Roves travelled to Midleton on Wed. July  4th to play Midleton 2 in the first round of this years minor championship.
Midleton started the livelier of the two teams, raising the first couple of flags, the lads continued to struggle but eventually started to come to terms with their opposition and forced the Midleton keeper into a couple of fine saves, whilst all the time paring back the lead and indeed as the referee called half time the difference between the two teams was as it had been at the start, a draw. The lads started the second half much better, and with the breeze to their backs and a couple of positional switches they struck a purple patch ten minutes into the second half, raising 2 green flags in a three minute spell and from there on the game ebbed and flowed its way to its conclusion with both teams matching each others efforts on the scoreboard to leave the final result Midleton 1-15, Bride Rovers 4-12
Match Panel, Ben Knox, Ronan Barry, Adam Cronin, Darragh Delaney, Denis Fitzgerald, Cillian O'Sullivan, Gearoid O'Connell, Cormac Barry, Luke Harrington, Conor O'Riordan, Sean Dowling, Tomas O'Riordan, Jack Mannix, Cameron O'Sullivan, Shane O'Dowd, Jack Lynch, Matthew Kenny, Shane Prendergast, Gearoid Gubbins, Jack Collins, David O 'Connell
GAMES IN PAIRC NA BRIDE.
AS the County Championship Season swings into action we have been selected for several high-profile games. The first of these was on last Friday night when a fine crowd attended the County Intermediate FC game between Mitchelstown and St Vincents. The City side were on top early on and led by three points at one stage. However Mitchelstown gradually settled into the game and ended up winning easily. Thanks to all who helped out on the night. This coming Friday night August 2nd will see another huge game for us to host. Neighbours Fermoy and Castlelyons clash in a first round game n the County Senior A Hurling Championship. This fixture should attract a huge crowd so Ger Lane and his match Day Committee will be busy. Any Club member than help with stewarding, car parking etc etc is asked to be at Pairc na Bride as close as possible to 6 o clock.

UNDER 16 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.
After successfully getting to the football league final following an unbeaten league campaign, the U16s started their football championship at home to near rivals Fermoy on Monday last.  They hadn’t played Fermoy in football in several years so it was stepping into the unknown with both sides having high expectations.  The first half was tight on the scoreboard although the Rovers’ lads had several goal chances either saved or that went narrowly wide.  The score at half time was Bride Rovers 1-5 Fermoy 1-4.  The slight breeze favoured the green, white and gold in the second half and made a difference with the boys improving their accuracy.  The Rovers lads started to get on top as the half wore on despite strong resistance from Fermoy. Ultimately, the boys earned a deserved victory by 2-17 to 1-6.  Panel: Adam Kelleher, Darragh O’Farrell, Jack Lynch, Con McCormack, James Larkin, Cathal Barry, Jamie Walsh, Éanna Lyons, Denis Fitzgerald, Micheal Walsh, Shane O’Dowd, Matthew Kenny, Eoghan Buckley, Garry Quirke, Finn O’Driscoll, Donagh Hurley & Calum Somers.
BILLY MAC 90.
Birthday Greetings this week to former great horseman, Olympian and sometimes hurler Billy McLernon. Born in Passage West in 1934 Billy and his family later moved to Spangle Hill in Cork City before coming to Beech Park in Rathcormac where they ran a salt packaging business. Billy was a superb jockey winning over 300 point to point races as well as many ‘inside the rails’ also. He represented Ireland in the Equestrian event at the Munich Olympics in 1972. In the 1950’s Billy and his brother Brian played a few hurling games here locally. He told me ‘we only played if they were very badly stuck for players’! Billy McLernon celebrates his 90th Birthday on today August 1st, happy birthday Billy.
