‘Follow me up Dublin if you have a ticket !
Its only three years ago since the Cork Senior Hurlers were in the All Ireland Final. That was on Sunday August 20th 2021 -less than 36 months ago but in truth it seems like an eternity! Then remember the draw and replay in 2013 when we nearly beat Clare the first day and then lost the Saturday night replay. That 2021 Final was still in Covid Time and Just 40,000 attended as Limerick trounced us and Antrim captured the Joe McDonagh Cup -imagine once upon a time All Ireland Final day had two hurling games,-oh to think of it!   From 1904 until Cork were 14 years without winning the Hurling title. Then came another famine-like barren spell from 1954 until glorious 1966 when our own Seanie Barry starred as Cork beat Kilkenny. Those Title-less periods pale into insignificance when we think it’s now 19 years since the famous Liam McCarthy Cup came back to Cork. Yes it was on Sunday September the 11th 2005 that we last heard the hurlers accept that Cup to the Strains of’ The Banks of My Own Lovely Lee’ as Sean Og O h-Ailpin accepted the trophy with an emotional speech completely ‘as gaeilge’. We beat Galway that day by 1 21 to 1 16 with Ben O Connor hitting 1 7. Our own Brian Murphy starred at corner back alongside Diarmuid O Sullivan and Pat Mulcahy. The following year Kilkenny thwarted our three in a row hopes.  Brian was still there in the corner in 2013 when we looked likely winners against the Banner – a point up with time up but up came Donal O Donovan to level it. A score of 3 16 would win most hurling Finals but in the replay Clare hit 5 16 to win by two goals. There have been many twists and turns in the intervening years but now Cork are back in the Final with a real chance next Sunday.  It’s great sense of pride for our Club and parish to have Brian and Eoin Roche on the extended Cork panel and we wish them the very bet. That goes to all the Cork players and management. The 1999 Cork Team will be the Jubilee team  and will get a massive welcome when they walk out on Croke Park next Sunday. The Clare and Cork teams in 2013 were as follows; CLARE: P Kelly; D O’Donovan, C Dillon, D McInerney; B Bugler, Conor Ryan, P O’Connor; P Donnellan (c), C Galvin; J Conlon, T Kelly, Colin Ryan; P Collins, S O’Donnell, C McGrath. Subs: C McInerney for Galvin (52); N O’Connell for Collins (59); D Honan for O’Donnell (66); S Morey for Kelly (71). Blood sub: F Lynch for O’Donnell (50/51);  CORK: A Nash; C O’Sullivan, S O’Neill, B Murphy; C Joyce, S McDonnell, W Egan; D Kearney, L McLoughlin; S Harnedy, C McCarthy, P Cronin (c); L O’Farrell, P Horgan, C Lehane. Subs: S White for Egan (23); S Moylan for O’Farrell (35); T Kenny for Kearney (38); C Naughton for McCarthy (55); K Murphy for McDonnell (inj. 67).

The Ticket situation is Chronic. The Price of €100 is no deterrent as every Cork fan wants to be there on Sunday. Bride Rovers got x just over 100 tickets and had three times that looking for them. The search for Tickets will go on right up until Sunday morning.  Here’s hoping for a dry day, safe travelling and a Cork win.

UNDER 12 HURLERS IN ACTION.
It was a hurling week for our under12s this week and a trip down to where the statue of Christy Ring greeted the lads as they arrived to play St.Colmans (Cloyne/Russell Rovers)  in Cloyne. With several players absent due to holidays, this was always going to be a tough game. St.Colmans made a bright start and went a point up from a free but were also dominating the rucks as our lads were forced to defend resolutely for the first 10 mins. However, Jack Gubbins settled our lads with a well taken goal after a good run through the heart of the St.Colmans defence. St.Colmans added another point from a free after 14 mins and followed it up with a goal on 17 mins to make it 1-2 to 1-0 in their favour. Two more quick points from two more frees stretches the lead out to 4 points as our lads indiscipline was beginning to hurt them. Two frees just before half time from our own Jack Fitz made it 1-4 to 1-2 at the break, and gave our lads renewed confidence going into the second half.
Rovers thundered into the game in the second half and registered 1-1 within 2 minutes. A well taken goal from Theo Byrd after a pass knock down from Eoghan Croke, and a Jack Fitzgerald point from a 65 meant Rovers were now in the lead 2-3 to 1-4. Rovers were now beginning to suffocate the opposition with hard work, commitment to the rucks and were starting to make more opportunities for scores. A fine Conor Healy point on 8 mins was followed up by another Theo Byrd goal on 11 mins, with Eoghan Croke again getting the assist. Rovers were now 3-4 to 1-4 up with St.Colmans now struggling to hit a clean ball due to the pressure, hooking and blocking coming from our lads. Colmans got their first score of the second half on 15 mins, again from a free but Jack Fitzgerald replied in kind with a free of his own before adding a second two minutes later to make it 3-6 to 1-5. Cloyne added another free Two mins from time but the score of the game was still to come. Man of the match Jack Fitz went on a run down the sideline, passed three of their players and from the half way line scored a magnificent point to leave the final score at 3-7 to 1-6 to Rovers. A brilliant second half performance and a first win of Phase 2 of the hurling league. Games still to come against Crosshaven and Nemo Rangers.

MIGHTY PITCH WORK.
Wow is the only word to use when one sees the massive work done on our second new pitch at Ballybrowney in the last two weeks.  The earth-moving and levelling machinery has done massive work and the pitch has taken shape rapidly and is now practically ready for seeding. Pitch No 1 looks great with the grass thickening all the time and the goal posts erected and the ball-stop nets due to go up this week. It’s simply mighty to see the progress being made.  None of this would be possible without the Club 100 Scheme, the Oskars and the Lotto- thanks to everyone.
UNDEER 14 LEAGUE ACTION.
The under14s started back into the leagues over the past 2 weeks. It being holiday season we have been under pressure for numbers.
We started with football at home to Cobh on Friday 5th.  After an even first half we were down 3 at the break. Bride Rovers 3-3 Cobh 3-6. The second half saw Cobh come by scores easier and they ran out winners Bride Rovers 4-4 Cobh 5-11. In Hurling we travelled to Eire Og on Friday 12th. Again we struggled for numbers with only 17 travelling to the Premier 2 championship winners.  The damage was done in the first half with Eire Og well up at half-time.  However the lads took the fight to them after the break and won the second half. Final score Bride Rovers 5-4 Eire Og 6-15.
Back to football this week and we travel to Aghada on Friday.
MINOR HURLING.
Bride Rovers hosted St Colmans on Friday for the final round of this years minor hurling league. With the pitch in splendid condition as ever and mother nature deciding to act a little bit like summer
we were looking forward to a good lively match. What we were served up was exactly that, St Colmans started a bit brighter and soon had the upper hand in a couple of areas and on the board, however the lads continued to work hard and began to gain parity on the pitch and pare back the score, As half time was called the score read Bride Rovers 0-07 St Colmans 1-10. The second half began as the first had, hard hurling up and down the pitch, the lads worked some lovely moves and scores  with a variety of both long deliveries or working the ball through the lines, however only one chance was converted into a major score, full time score Bride Rovers 1-15 St Colmans 3-17. Match Squad, Darragh O'Farrell, Garry Quirke, Shane O'Dowd, Jack Lynch, Jack Hynes, Jack Mannix, Shane Prendergast, Sean Dowling, Adam Cronin, Cillian O'Sullivan, Cameron O'Sullivan, Conor O'Riordan, Gearoid Gubbins, Oran Kielty, Ben Knox, Ronan Barry, Cormac Barry.
 WELL DONE KATIE.
After her great displays with the cork Ladies Football team in recent months Katie Quirke was winner of a prestigious award recently. Katie and Kilkenny captain Aoife Prendergast are the June winners of the PwC GPA Women’s Player of the Month awards for football and camogie. Jarlath Burns, president of the GAA said: “It has been an incredible few weeks for Gaelic games across all of the championships, thanks in no small part to some stellar performances. The month of June was illuminated by the displays of both Shane O’Donnell (Hurling) and Peadar Mogan (Football) as Clare and Donegal both thrived in strong provincial campaigns in hurling and football respectively. Similarly, Katie Quirke and Aoife Prendergast shone for Cork and Kilkenny on the ladies football and camogie circuits” Well done Katies and best wishes to Katie and Sarah and all the Cork panel as they take on Galway in Tullamore next Saturday in the Championship semi final.
 UNDER 9 CAMOGIE.
On Sunday last our U9 Girls Team took to Aghada for a camogie blitz against St. Finbarrs, Blackrock and Aghada. It was a warm and sunny Sunday morning and our girls made the day even brighter with stunning performances in all 3 matches. They have been working hard all year on their skills and the fruits of their labour were evident for all to see on Sunday with a great combination of both air and ground hurling on display. The matches were excellent battles and all of the girls showed their bravery and tenacity in each game. We would like to thank Aghada for hosting such a well run event. Well done again to our U9 girls, keep up the hard work.
 WELL DONE LISMORE.
Lismore GAA Club launched their Club History at a magnificent event in Lismore Castle on Wednesday of last week. Guest speaker on the night was GAA president Jarlath Burns. Priced at €40 this hardback book is full of photographs and great details of the club since the lae 1800’s until 2023.
