We’re approaching mid-Summer and it’s action on all fronts. At both County Board and East Cork Board level the League deadlines are approaching. It’s June 18th in East Cork and June 30th for County Board competitions. Cork hurlers and footballers are in action on Saturday. Sunday is Car Boot Saleday. Our Lotto Jackpot is now €18,800. We had a full Agenda at Monday night’s Executive meeting -never a dull moment!

EXECUTIVE MEETING ON MONDAY NIGHT.
Chairman Pa O Driscoll presided over the Executive Meeting on last Monday night. Minutes of the May meeting and Treasurers Report were read and adopted as was the Children’s Officers report. Reports were heard From County and East Cork Boards with Fixtures. Sub committees reported -these included Juvenile, Ladies, Development, Grounds. Next Sunday is Car Boot Sale day -help needed and welcome from 7am Sunday morning. A vote of congratulations was passed to Peter O Donoghue and William O Leary both of whom were elected to the Cork Council in the Local Elections last Friday -it’s the first time in history that the Parish has two resident county Councillors. Jerome O Driscoll on behalf of the Organising Committee of the Night at the Dogs for Katie O Keeffe thanked the Club and all who supported the event at Curraheen Park last Saturday night. Club members were saddened to hear of the death recently of James Healy of Ennis. James had heled us with our pitch development project and was still working for us in the last few weeks. He was a brilliant man in respect of details of ground preparation, drainage etc Hourihans are to move in this week to start work on our second new pitch.
RED FM SHL.
WE have two more games to play in our group of the RED FM Senior Hurling League against Erins Own and Killeagh. The Erins Own game is fixed for next Sunday, away in Caherlag at 11.30. The Killeagh game is in Rathcormac on Saturday week June 22nd at half 7pm.
HISTORY MAKERS.
What can one say or do about this Limerick team? Six in a row in the Munster Championship as the Shannonsiders made history. Last Sunday in Thurles they just surged away from Clare to make hurling history in the Province. They have a break of a month now –‘twill be hard to beat them -maybe Cork can!
TULLAMORE HERE WE COME.
O Connor Park in Tullamore will be packed to the gills on Saturday next with an attractive Rebel Double-Header. The Cork Footballers meet Tyrone in Round 3 of the Sam Maguire Cup Qualifiers. With two wins Cork are assured of going through- a third win would ensure a handy quarter final Draw. The Cork hurlers meet the Joe McDonagh Cup winners Offaly in a preliminary Quarter Final of the Hurling Championship. With a capacity of 18,000 it should be a ‘Sell Out’ game. Best of luck to Cork in both games and good luck to Brian and Eoin Roche. It’s great to see names like Dooley, Troy, Duignan, Spain and Cahill on the Offaly team as well as Adam Screeney. The winners of the hurling game will be in action again the following week in the Quarter Final.

MENTAL HEALTH EVENT.
There was an attendance of fifty in the Clubrooms last week for a novel and brilliant event. The Cork Co. Council organised the Mental Health Awareness event and all who attended felt it was very informative and useful.
JUNIOR FOOTBALL.
Our Junior A Football championship Fixtures are as follows; Saturday July 6th v Cloyne. Friday July 12th v Fr O Neills and Monday July 15th v Midleton.
BILLY FINNEGAN - BEST WISHES.
All in Bride Rovers extend best wishes to Billy Finnegan after his recent surgery. He’s on the mend and hopefully will be back in action shortly.
CORK GIRLS WIN.
Well done to Sarah, Kate and Leah who played with the Cork Senior Ladies footballers n their Championship win over Laois.
ORAN IN ZAMBIA.
Well done to Bride Rovers player Oran Kielty and his classmates who are doing voluntary work in Zambia at present. Oran did a fundraising campaign in the Spring for his trip. He is in Mazabuka, Zambia, with 13 boys from CBC, 3 teachers and a Serve volunteer. They are currently teaching in school, building a chicken coup, gardening, planting banana trees, painting, spring cleaning.
All the jerseys, shorts, hurleys, football boots, socks taken over were greatly appreciated by all the children in different schools.
The temperature is currently mid 20s.
CELTIC CHALLENGE LINK.
As well as Jack Mannix and Cormac Barry who were on the Cork team that beat Dubin in the Celtic Challenge final there was another player on the side with strong local links. Cian Stack of the Midleton Club is a great, great grandson of William Kearney of Ballybrowney and his wife Julia McHugh, they married in 1904.
UNDER 10’s FLYING.
Our under10’s has had a busy few weeks, participating in the annual Ballyduff Upper under10 hurling tournament. We entered two teams in the competition, providing a fantastic experience for the boys as it was their first tournament playing against different teams from Waterford and Cork. Our Green Team performed excellently, securing impressive victories over Mount Sion, Ballygunner, and Valley Rovers. They advanced to the final, where they faced Valley Rovers again and narrowly missed out on a win. The Gold Team also showed great competitiveness in challenging conditions, with matches against St. Catherine’s, Passage, and Cois Bhríde. A special thanks to the under 9s who stepped up to help us out on the day. Both teams displayed remarkable tackling, skill, and sportsmanship, making it a pleasure to watch from the sideline. The team had an exciting outing on May 11th, heading up to the Cork vs. Limerick hurling match in Pairc Ui Chaoimh by bus. They had great craic and thoroughly enjoyed watching the Rebels win and we wish the Cork teams all the besst in Tullamore next Saturday. We also had a hurling match against Carrigtwohill at home last weekend. Our next fixture is a football match at home against Erin Own.

Our Junior Hurling team travelled to Youghal on Tuesday night to play our penultimate match in the Division Two hurling League. The match was played in Youghal upper pitch at Magnier’s Hill and it was a game of two halves with a strong sea breeze blowing down the field.
Youghal played with the wind in the first half and were well on top for the first thirty minutes. William opened our account early in the game before Youghal scored 3 points in a row. Conor was accurate as always on the placed ball and 3 frees and one from play kept us in touch as Youghal opened a 11 point to 5 half time lead with scoring proving difficult for both teams due to the conditions
Our lads started the second half brightly and a point from Conor before Cian scored a goal from a long-range effort with the wind catching the keeper out saw the margin reduced to 3, 1-6 to 12 points. Our lads were hurling well and points from Conor (2), John and Shaun saw the sides level 1-10 to 13 after 15 minutes. Youghal took the lead again with a point but 4 points on the trot from Shaun, Cian, William and Conor saw us into a 3-point lead. Youghal reduced the margin back to 2 points in the 27th minute which meant for a nervous last few minutes but we held out for a 1-14 to 0-15 win.
Our final Division 2 League game is fixed for Wednesday the 12th of June vs St. Catherines at 7:30pm in Rathcormac. Team, S O’Flynn, C O’Sullivan, L Collins, J Connor, E O’Connor, L Forde, J O’Sullivan (0-1), F Collins, C O’Connor (1-1), S Knox (0-2), R O’Callaghan, W Finnegan(0-2), B Knox, Conor Barry (0-8), A Hayes Subs: J Buckley. Depending on the result of this game and other results we may be in contention for promotion to Division 1 for 2025.

“All good here. I’m still in Vancouver Canada. I’m playing hurling all the time with Cu Chulainn GAA club. They are just a hurling Club, no football. There are 3 hurling teams and 5 football clubs in Vancouver. The standard is good. Not many locals playing but there's a good few from Cork on the team. We were hurling in San Diego, California just two weeks ago, a 7 a side hurling tournament. We got beaten in the Senior final by a point against a strong Tipperary San Fran team.

AMARENCO JHL DIV 4;
Our final Division 4 league game is fixed for next Monday the 17th of June vs Lisgoold at 7:30pm in Lisgoold. The Final cut-off date for all East Cork League games is June 18th.

UNDER 14’s BUSY, BUSY.
Our under14s have had three games in the last two weeks. We finished our hurling group stage with games against Eire Og and Blackrock and we had a football playoff against Midleton.
Bride Rovers 0-11 Eire Og 6-11. Goals win matches. This was certainly true against Eire Og in Rathcormac. Eire Og would probably be favourites to win the Premier 2 division but in fairness to our lads we gave them a right rattle. We managed to hit the crossbar twice and both posts over the hour. Had we got those goals it could have been a different story. As usual a huge effort from all the lads. Eire Og got a good start but once the lads settled it was a very even game. However their ability to get goals kept them ahead of us. The final score didn't reflect the effort the lads put in.
Blackrock 5-13 Bride Rovers 3-14 A classic game of 2 halves. The result didn't matter too much as both teams were heading for the shield competition. We had a super first half and were well ahead at half-time. We probably made too many changes and as a result lost our shape which left Blackrock back into the game, which they took full advantage of.
We now travel to Timoleague on Tuesday to play Ibane Gaels with a semi-final for the winners on Friday. Last Friday evening we had to play a football playoff against Midleton who we finished level with in our football group. We had won in our group game after a great performance, however we were missing 5 lads on Friday evening. Midleton were on top from the start and ran out easy winners. The lads to be fair worked hard for the hour. We now are in a shield semi-final against Douglas 2 on Sunday 16th at 7:30 in Rathcormac.
