Lotto at 23,000..
Yes it’s true, our Lotto Jackpot was not won on Tuesday August the 9th when it stood at €22,800. The four numbers drawn out that night were 2,4,6 and 29 and there was no winner. This meant that for Tuesday August 16th the jackpot was a huge, massive €23,000. You could win that sum for an investment of just €2 and there are several ways of joining. Tickets are on sale in local businesses and shops and from Club Members. The tickets can also be bought online by going to https://bit.ly/
You can buy a single ticket or a yearly ticket or join for a month but remember if you’re not in you can’t win. The Bride Rovers Club thanks all those who support the Lotto week in, week out -many since it began in march 1996. When our Lotto Started we had a five week rota between the different pus as follows; Rathcormac Inn, O Doherty’s, Denis Barry’s, Vera Barry’s and O Driscoll’s -how times have changed. Last week the winners of the €30 cash prizes were Carol Crowley Fermoy, Gerard O Keeffe Marshalstown, Anne Galvin c/o TVM, Fergal Barry c/o Online Lotto and Billy Barrett Mitchelstown.
FOOTBALLERS OUT.
Last year in Carrignavar we won our third ever East Cork Junior A grade Football Championship with a great win over Cobh in the decider. Last Sunday in Caherlag the same two teams met in the 2022 Quarter Final where the men from the Holy Ground reversed that result emphatically. Cobh won by 4 8 to 0 7 and in truth we could have no complaints as we were well beaten by a far better team.
FIXTURES CHANGED.
In the last week a lot of changing and rescheduling has taken place with our Fixtures List in an attempt to avoid players having to play two games on the one day. Next Sunday August the 21st saw us doubly fixed with a junior B grade Hurling Championship game against Sars and the Under 19 Hurling Semi Final against Fr O Neills. The Junior B game has now been refixed for Tuesday August 23rd and the u 19 game goes ahead on Sunday. Caherlag is the venue for the semi final clash with Fr O Neills at 11.30 on Sunday morning so best of luck lads. We were also down to play St Nicks in the under 19 Football semi final and this game is now re fixed for Monday week August 29th with the time and venue to be confirmed.
MINOR HURLING.
On this Friday night August 19th we are to play Mallow in the Minor (under 17) Hurling Championship. The game is at 7pm and is on in the main Pitch. After a heavy defeat to Shandrum this game is another chance to stay involved in the Championship. Unfortunately the panel of players has been hit with several injuries and some key players are still out with injuries. Best of luck lads. The game is timed for 7 o clock as the evenings are closing in quickly. I was at the Rovers v Kilworth camogie match in the field on Monday night. It was originally fixed for 7.45 but brought forward to half 7 and ‘twas nearly dark when it finished. After the fantastic weather we’ve had it’s hard to imagine we’re only a little over a week away from the month of September. After a great game of camogie the girls had a great win over a strong Kilworth side.
GAMES IN PAIRC NA BRIDE.
There was fine crowd present on Friday night for the Glenville v Glanworth IFC game which Glanworth won. On Sunday night we hosted Glenville v Castlelyons in the East Cork Junior B Grade FC. After a glorious day the weather changed. A severe Thunder and Lightning storm caused the game to be called off just before half time. Castlelyons were leading by 6 points to 4 at the time. It will be refixed by the East Cork Board. On Sunday week August 28th we host Erin’s Own and Bishopstown in Round 3 of the County Premier Senior Hurling Championship with a big crowd expected.
Car Boot Sale.
Thanks to all those who helped out with the car Boot Sale last Sunday and also Club Members who helped with selling Lotto Tickets.
TERRY & GEORGIE IRON MEN
After their epic Ironman efforts in Youghal last weekend yesterday, Terry Broderick and Georgie Johnson (picture attached) wish to thank everyone for their messages of support. Since early morning on Sunday, both undertook the gruelling IRONMAN Cork - a 3.8km sea swim, a 180km bike course and a marathon-distance 42.2km run through and around Youghal. In particular, they appreciate the support of the fundraising endeavour associated with their effort. The sum raised has topped €3,000 to date, and you can still contribute to the chosen charity, Laura Lynn, via the donation page - https://bit.ly/3BvhDkT
Well done lads -both men have given decades of service to the club on the playing fields and they are still helping others in a mighty way. Everyone in Bride Rovers is very proud of our two Ironmen.

It’s a joy to see so many young boys learning the skills of our Gaelic Games at a very young age. They are really enjoying their skills sessions and not a care in the world about scores, results or winning -just having fun. Under 6 training continues Wednesday evenings 18:30 to 19:15 and Saturday mornings 09:45 to 10:30 in the small astro pitch. New players always welcome.
KEVIN CAHILL RIP.
The Community and Club were addended at the weekend to learn of the death of Kevin Cahill of Shanowen, Rathcormac. Though he had been ill for some time his death came as a shock to all especially when Kevin was such a young man with a wife and small children. The Cahill family are involved down the years in every aspect of Community life in our Parish including GAA. Kevin was a member of the first ever Bride Rovers panel to win an under 21 Football Championship, that was in 1995 and his father Pat has served the Bride Rovers Club in many capacities. We extend our deepest sympathy to Kevin’s wife Linda, children Katie and David, parents Pat and Ann sister Sylvia , brother Brendan and all his other relations. May Kevin rest in peace.

SENIOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP.
Saturday week August 27th is ‘D Day’ for our Senior Hurling team. On that evening we play our Round Three Round Robin game against Ballymartle. We have a win and a draw as have Ballyhea, Carigtwohill have a win while Ballymartle have lost their two games to date. That very fact should ensure that we approach the game with caution as Ballymartle are well aware of their need to avoid a Relegation dogfight. In the Round Robin series there are so many possible outcomes and possible sets of results but we simply must go to Riverstown and try and win the game. At the same time as our match Carrig and Ballyhea will battle it out in Inniscarra’s grounds at Ballyanley -both games are fixed for 7pm, they may be brought to 6.45. Since the Ballyhea game in Kildorrery we have a few injury worries but hopefully they will all be cleared up.
This week half a century ago we were getting ready for an East Cork Junior Hurling Final – our first since the two in a row of 1968 and 1969. Having defeated the second teams of Sars and Cloyne we faced Aghada in the semi final in Carrigtwohill on Sunday August 6th. Aghada raced into an early 0 6 to 0 0 lead after quarter of an hour. Two Gussy O Driscoll frees and a point from play by Liam Parle saw us 0 6 to 0 3 in arrears after twenty minutes. Ahgada then hit 1 2 without reply and we looked in trouble as the Seasiders led by 1 7 to 0 7 at half time. Two super goals by Gussy from 21 yard frees and three points from Johnny Barry, Sean Murphy and pat Hoskins saw us win narrowly, by 2 10 to 2 9. The second semi final between Killeagh and Dungourney was abandoned the following Sunday which led to a ‘Boardroom Saga’ at East Cork and County level. It dragged on for two months before eventually Dungourney were the team to meet us in an October Final which we unfortunately lost.
PITCH DEVELOPMENT.
At the last Club Executive Meeting our new Plying Pitch development plans at Ballybrowney were discussed. Ongoing preparatory work is taking place with different Club Sub Committees meeting regularly as we explore all our options. It’s an exciting time for the Club as prepare to expand our facilities. It will be a massive financial undertaking but we are confident the project will be brought to a successful fruition.
