Great win over the Barrs..
We won our second League match against St. Finbarrs in a highly entertaining game on Sunday in Rathcormac in the Red FM sponsored Senior Hurling League.
With the playing field in splendid condition at Pairc Na Bride, both teams served up a high scoring thrilling contest in which the Rovers won out on a scoreline of 2-22 to 1-19.
Most satisfying for the Rovers was the array of scorers, 8 in total and a wide count which was in the single figures. Both teams gave it everything over the 60 plus minutes and with championship only 6 weeks away, this game was good preparation as we countdown to the serious stuff.
In a swirling wind, this intriguing contest ignited from the start with the Rovers racing into an early three points to one lead, points coming from Conor Barry and Jordan Mannix. However, by the tenth minute, the sides were locked 0-4 apiece. The Rovers finished the half with a flurry of points from Cian O Connor, Michael Collins, Cillian Tobin and Conor Barry again, who was unerring from frees.
With The Rovers in front at half time 0-12 to 0-08 we got off to the perfect start in the second half when Cillian Tobin reacted fastest to a ball off the upright to finish to the net. St. Finbarrs struck back with a goal of their own midway through the half to setup a tense closing few minutes. A well worked move involving Adam Walsh & Kieran Kearney saw sub Ed Cashman score a wonderful point. The in-form Cillian Tobin struck for the Rovers second goal and ensured a good win over the Barrs. Since we won the County Junior Hurling title in 1998 we’ve played the Togher side in both Intermediate and Senior , league and Championship. I always think the Barrs played a great brad of hurling. They play the game as it should be played -tough and fair and with great skill. That’s the way it was on Sunday and it was pleasing to see a fine crowd present for the game.
Final score Bride Rovers 2-22 St. Finbarrs 1-19 Team and scorers Cian Hogan, Davy Barry, Jordan Mannix (0-1), Shane Walsh, Paddy O Flynn, Eoin Roche (0-1), Conor Hazelwood, Kieran Kearney, Cian O Connor (0-2), Adam Walsh, Ronan O Connell. Michael Collins (0-1), Cillian Tobin (2-02), Conor Barry *0-13, 11F), Brian Roche (0-1). Subs: Daniel .Dooley, Jason Pratt, Ed Cashman (0-1).

Under 6 Report.
On Saturday morning last St.Catherine’s and Kilworth came to Páirc na Bride to play us in a hurling blitz. In total between the three clubs we had 10 teams, 56 players in all, and all played some great hurling. The skill level on show from all players was very impressive. The lads are so enthusiastic and willing to learn and improve their skills all the time. Thanks to St. Catherine’s and Kilworth for a great morning of hurling. Next up we travel to Glenville to play a football blitz next Saturday morning as part of Bonfire Night celebrations.
UNDER 13’s IN TRABEG.
The under13 Green team had their second outing in the Premier 2A football league away to Nemo Rangers on Friday 17th June last. The lads were down a number of players on the night and suffered their first defeat.
Nemo started strong and opened up a healthy lead in the first half. Our lads came more into the game in the Second half and closed the gap to a few points with 10 minutes to go but Nemo finished strong to take the spoils on the night. It’s mighty to be playing at this level regardless of the results as playing good teams is better than winning against poor sides. Well done lads. The next football game for the lads will be away to Youghal in Copperalley on Saturday July 2nd at 4pm. The under13 Hurlers will be in action this coming Sunday 26th June at 6pm in Pairc Na Bhride against Carrigtwohill.
UNDER 12’s WIN AT HOME.
Bride Rovers 3-3 Lisgoold 2-4
The under12 boys got off to a winning start in their East Division 2 league on Monday in the juvenile pitch. In what proved to be a very close game against our neighbours the boys fought hard to grind out a win. The sides were level at half time 1-3 apiece. The second half was equally close with our lads getting 2 goals which was enough to win by 2 points.
Team: Zack, Jack, Cathal O'B, Nathan, Cody, Sam, Danny, Ciaran, Fionn C, Cormac, Fionn L, Liam, David, Sean H, Alex, Daniel, Matius and Sean O'L.
Our next game is football away to Killeagh on Monday 27th at 7pm and we are away in hurling to Kilworth on Thursday 30th at 7pm.
CORK v GALWAY.
The ‘famine’ continues, it’s been seventeen long years since the Liam McCarthy Cup wended it’s way Leeside and that statistic is a stark reminder of how things used to be. In Thurles last Saturday Cork’s 2022 Senior Hurling ambitions ended with a one point defeat to Galway. I suppose on Easter Sunday when we lost to Limerick in the Park the chance of making the quarter final looked dim. After the loss to Clare it seemed our season was done and dusted. In fairness to the Blood and Bandage warriors they turned it around by defeating Waterford and Tipperary, away on both occasions. A win over Antrim set us up nicely for the showdown with a Galway side, well beaten in the Leinster Final. It wasn’t that Cork played badly last Sunday, no they dominated the contest especially in the first half. The inability to raise more green and white flags cost us in the end. A one point loss was galling especially when one thinks of all the wides and missed chances. So that’s it for Cork in the Liam McCarthy ‘race’ for this year. Now just four remain, the three in a row seeking Limerick, Clare, Galway and Clare. Offaly and Tipperary will contest the Minor All Ireland Hurling Final- terrible isn’t it that this Final will be played at 1.30 on a Sunday afternoon in Nowlan park and not with the Senior Final in Croke Park?
MIKE PYNE RIP.
One of Bride Rovers longest serving supporters died last week. Mike Pyne of Ballybrowney passed away and is deeply mourned. Mike grew up n the 1940’s and at that time -especially after 1946, the fortunes of the Bride Rovers Club were at a low ebb but Mike never wavered in his support. In the 1950’s a Town v Country underage tournament was organised by Ned Daly – Ned made a special shield for the winners. Mike played with the Country/Ballybrowney side beaten by the Village team. Mike team mates were Joe O Keefe, Tommy Hickey, Paddy O Brien, Paddy Dea, Mick Barry, Larry Kelleher, Tommy Barry, Donie Pyne and Billy Moroney. The Village team was Seanie Barry, Michael Sheehan, Tom Barry, Tony O Brien, Michael Murphy, Paddy O Sullivan, Jimmy O Brien, John Joe O Sullivan and John Gettings. Mike Pyne was thrilled to see the Club reorganised in the 1960’s and from 1965 until his death Mike rarely missed a championship game played by the Rovers. We extend our sympathy to his sisters Mary and Kathleen and brother Pat, nephews and nieces and other relatives. Mike was buried in the Old Rathcormac cemetery on Saturday last. May he rest in peace.

UNDER 17 HURLING.
Bride Rovers 1-10 Valley Rovers 3-13.
Last Sunday we played Premier1 team Valley Rovers in a challenge game in preparation for championship. The contest was played in Pairc na Bride on a coolish morning.
We were minus Louie, Cameron, Frank, Darragh and Kamso all on the injury list. The match gave other lads game time and an opportunity to impress which they did. The first half had a great pace to the game with some great scores by both teams. A great team goal finished by Cillian O Sullivan had us in the lead at half time. 1-5 to 0-07.
The second half saw Valleys up the tempo even more. They had a lot more subs to use than we had. They proved too strong for us at the full time whistle.
But it was a worthwhile exercise for team and management. Team.
