Lotto Jackpot at €20,200..
On Tuesday of last week,, April 26th, the Lotto Jackpot was €19,800. On the night the four numbers drawn were 8, 14, 22 and 27 and there was no winning combination.This meant that for Tuesday of this week, May 3rd, the jackpot reached a very significant €20,000. FIRST OUTING FOR THIRD XV.
Our Junior C hurling team met Dungourney on Friday evening last in their first league game of 2022. With a sprinkling of vetrans our lineout was overall a young team. The game started fairly evenly and was score for score for a long while. We were 2 points down at half time. It was our first game of the year and this showed in the 2nd half when Dungourney got on top and won by 1 18 to 1 9 Our lineout was, M O'Connell, A O'Regan, L Collins, J Kearney, J O'Sullivan, J Murphy, J Buckley, J Powell, S Pratt, J Tobin, B Collins, N Kelleher, C O'Callaghan, S O'Flynn, J Buckley Subs: L O'Flynn, D Burke & B Lahive, Our next game in the Division 4 league is on Monday week May 16th away to St Catherines in Ballynoe at 8pm.
JUNIOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE.
The Junior A footballers travelled to Lisgoold on Tuesday last and were on the wrong side of a 1-09 to 0-10 point score line. This was the second defeat for the lads in this year's league and they now have two home games remaining against Youghal and Cobh. The team and scorers on Tuesday were: Stephen Glasgow, Jordan Maninx, Conor Barry (0-07), Nicky Kelleher, Jason Maninx, Seamus Ahern, John O'Sullivan, Ben Hogan, Oisin Roche, Kieran Kearney, Jamie Buckley, Cian Hogan, Paul Larkin, Adam Walsh (0-02), Daniel Dooley (0-01), Paddy O'Flynn, Jack Connor, Josh Ahern, Edmund Cashman, Shane Walsh, Damien Buckley, Ciaran Crowley and Liam Forde. The next league game is against Youghal at home on Tuesday 10th May at 7.45pm.

This weekend the Cork East under 17 hurling team play Galway in the semi final of the Celtic League. Two weeks ago the team had some notable wins to progress to the semi. Best wishes to Cork and to our own Louie Roche who is involved with this squad. No venue for the Cork v Galway game has been announced at the time of writing.
GREAT TRIP TO TIPP.
Unfortunately I was unable to be part of the Bride Rovers ‘Trip to Tipp’ last Sunday but it turned out to be a brilliant occasion for all concerned. Reports are included here in these notes of the fantastic day. Thanks to all the players and their parents for the cooperation they displayed and special thanks to Runai Emma Roddis and her team for organising everything so well. The result in Semple Stadium was not great but no doubt many of our young players who travelled will star for Bride Rovers and Cork in years to come.
CORNER BACKS RECALLED.
Often when great hurlers are recalled and their deeds lauded it’s those who scored great goals and points are most often spoken of. It was great to see a lovely article in the Cork v Clare Match programme last Sunday mentioning two defenders. Our own Brian Murphy and Clare’s Domhnall O Donovan were the pair featured in Damian Lawlor’s piece. Brian’s ability as a man marker was especially mentioned. Remember in 2006 Eoin Kelly of Tipperary had notched 14 points against Limerick and 2 9 v Waterford but Brian held him to a solitary point from play in the Munster final. Ironically though a corner back Donovan will for ever be remembered for the levelling point he scored in the drawn All Ireland Final of 2013 against Cork.
GREAT DAY FOR THE UNDER 9’s.
Our U9’s had their first matches against teams outside of Cork as part of the trip to Tipp organised by the juvenile club. We played host club Thurles Gaels and Gortnahoe as part of the blitz and our players were fantastic in tough physical matches where each player can be very proud of their efforts. Players on the day were Joey Allen, Tiarnan Lyons, Luke Buckley, Luke Hogan, Fionn Purcell, Killian Donegan, Daniel Fitzgerald, Elliot Fitzgerald, Hugh Clerkin, Oisin Barry Sheehan, John Keating, Emma Burke, Eoin Burke, Niamh Finn, David Fitzpatrick, Harry Fitzpatrick, Aaron Murphy, Dara Murphy, Conor O’ Leary and Adam McCarthy. Mentors on the day were Evelyn, Barry, Elaine, Dave, Brendan, Gary, Kevin, Liam and Jim.
Thanks for the Thurles Gaels club who were wonderful hosts and to Emma Roddis for organising an unforgettable trip for all including the Clare V Cork match. Unfortunate with the result but fantastic that the players got to spend time in the home of hurling.
UNDER 10 REPORT
The Trip to Tipp finally arrived on Sunday with 72 players and 15 mentors boarding a double-decker bus at 8.30am to make their way to Thurles for a day of hurling. The extended entourage of parents and more mentors followed behind and headed for Thurles Gaels GAA on the Mill Road in Thurles. The lads took a while to get used to the physicality of the games as the difference between getting a free in Tipperary and getting one in Cork was very evident. You have to work a lot harder and have to be harder done by in Tipperary to win a free but in fairness to our lads, by the second game they were well up to pace with the home county teams of Thurles Gaels and visitors Gortnahoe. By the time the third game rolled around, the intensity from the Rovers boys was incredible. Each player played above what we have seen from them before and made us and the many parents in attendance so proud of the character, attitude and skill they bring to the club.
Thurles Gaels made sure all our bellies were full before we made our way down through Thurles and through the Square where our lads came to life as if they were the main attraction on the day. There wasn't a supporter in the Square and the whole way up to Semple Stadium to didn't applaud, clap or cheer with our lads who were giving it socks on the bus!
The lads arrived in Semple Stadium 10 minutes to throw in and were greeted by half of Rathcormac and Bartlemy as parents, mentors and extended family took over section 117 in Ardán Uí Riain. The score-line didn't go to plan but something tells me more despair was seen in other sections of the stadium than ours as, despite the result, our lads hurled every ball from minute 1 to 70 and kept the support going for the Rebels until the final whistle. A great day was topped off by some Fitzys food on our return. This is a day they will never forget. Our thanks to all who made the day possible especially those who donated to the trip and the amazing Emma Roddis for all her organisation.

Under 17 Hurling.
St Catherine’s 1-15 Bride Rovers 4-11.
On Friday night last we travelled to Pairc Naomh Caitrionaigh in Ballynoe to take on the locals. We were short Denis. Eldon, Cormac and Ben so it was always going to be a tough ask. However ‘when hot grew that fight those hearts grew more eager’ and the lads stepped up a gear and produced a great team performance. Their work-rate was excellent and top class hooking and blocking and fighting for every ball was evident. It was a great contest overall with 31 scores. Frank was the top scorer of night getting 4 great goals. It is very evident that the lads fitness and hurling is improving with every game. Our panel for game; Rona, Darragh, Cameron, Oran, Luke, Ada, Jack, Ryan, Kieran, Cillian, Louie, Cormac Barry, Cillian O Sullivan, Frank, Connor, Kamso, Gearoid, Ciaran, Colin. We played two recent challenge games with the following results.

These games are proving very beneficial with the selectors getting a chance to see all the players in action. Games are mighty as it is important for players to be getting plenty of game time. UNDER 15 HURLING
Bride Rovers welcomed Newtownshandrum to Pairc Na Bride on Wednesday 27th April for their third U15 division 1 hurling league qualifier. This was an important game as it would determine if we would be playing in division 1 or premier in championship this year. It was a really competitive game from both sides, Bride Rovers were leading by 4 points at half time which gave them the edge going into the second half. In the second half Bride Rovers continued to play well winning the game on a margin of 7-11 to 3-10. This result put us in a good position for championship, as we look forward to travelling to Grenagh on 11 May for our next match at 7pm. We would like to thank our sponsor East Cork Fireplaces.
MIXED RESULTS FOR UNDER 13’s.
Bride Rovers U13 Hurling Gold team were at home to Midleton on Friday evening for their final hurling game in the C3 league grading competition. This was a highly competitive game of hurling over the hour and the Rovers gave as good as they got. The final score saw Midleton run out victorious by 4-05 to 0-06 points.
Bride Rovers U13 Football Green team were away to Youghal on Wednesday evening for the second time in less than a week having played them in Hurling the previous Saturday. The Rovers were the better team over the hour and came away victorious on a score line of 3-10 to 2-04. That completes the grading competition for the Green team in both hurling and football and they will have a well earned break from games for a few weeks before the leagues begin.
The U13 fixtures for the coming week are - Gold team hurling home to Mallow on Friday next 6th May at 7pm in the Juvenile pitch.

In a lovely feature in a recent edition of ‘Ireland’s Eye’ the hurling and missionary careers of Fr Seanie Barry have been documented. Written by Brian McLaughlin the piece includes a picture of Seanie and Fr Mick Waters with 1966 Senior and u 21 Captain Gerald McCarthy and a reproduction of the front cover of the 1966 Cork v Kilkenny All Ireland Final Programme.

Congrats and well done to Denis Cashman who was picked at corner back on the Cork Minor Hurling team for the Munster Semi-final v Clare last Tuesday night in Cork.
LOCAL WINNER IN PUNCHESTOWN.
Well done to Dinny Fitzgerald and family of Lisnagar on their mighty win at Punchestown last week. ‘Lisnagar’ Fortune’ bred and owned by the Fitzgeralds won the last race on the first day of the Festival. The four year old gelding was broken by Ronan Barry and is trained by Willie Mullins. A former St Catherine’s hurler Dinny has served the Bride Rovers Club as a selector and Officer and his father Paddy was a founder member of the Club in 1928. Kieran and young Dinny have been very prominent players with Bride Rovers down the years and the tradition goes on. Well done Dinny and all the clan on a great victory.
CUL CAMP 2022.
Exciting news as our 2022 Cul camp has been confirmed. It will start on Monday July 25th and go on until the following Friday- strange isn’t it that on Monday July 25th all the talk will probably be of the All Ireland Senior Football Final which is down for decision in Croke Park the previous day, Sunday July 25th. Restrictions on numbers attending the camp will apply again this year. Registration for the Cul camp will be opening online shortly.

SCRAP METAL SURVEY.
We are at present organising a Scrap Metal Collection. If you have, or know someone who has, a quantity of scrap metal to be disposed of pleas ring John on 087 9538077.
