First league win for the Juniors..
After a draw and two defeats in Division 2 of the East Cork Junior Hurling League our Juniors travelled to Caherlag at 5 o clock last Saturday evening to clash camans with Erin’s Own. It was probably an indication of how things would go in Thurles the following day as Clare man Mike Liddane starred at full-back! Just like the Banner the Rovers netted three first half goals. The green flags were raised by Adam Hayes, Conor Barry and Edmond Cashman. Allied to some good point taking we were well on top. By the short whistle we led by eleven points. Though Erin’s Own came into the contest somewhat more in the second period we held on for a good won on a score line of Bride Rovers 3 22 Erin’s Own 1 11. We lined out as follows; Shaunie Knox, Jack Conor, Mike Liddane, Liam Collins, Seamus Ahern, Liam Forde, Conor Hazelwood, Davy Barry, Tomas Macak, Damien Buckley, Edmond Cashman, Nicky Kelleher, Jesse O'Keeffe, Conor Barry, Aidan Hayes, Jacob Powell, John O'Sullivan, John Buckley, Stephen Pratt . With a massive crowd at last Sundays Car Boot Sale in Rathcormac and the Bartlemy NS 6K Run on in Bartlemy it was a busy day in the Parish. Thanks to all those who helped with the Lotto Sales on Saturday morning at the Pitch and at the Car Boot Sale.
SENIORS STILL SEEKING WIN.
After four games played in the RED FM Cork Senior Hurling League we are still seeking our first win. Our trip to the Glen Field in Blackpool last Friday night was a chance to register our first victory but it was not to be. Goals win games and when the opposition gets half a dozen you are in serious trouble. Full match report next week.
UNDER 13’s DOUBLE VCTORY.
Our under13 Football ‘Gold’ team were away to Midleton on Thursday evening last and came away with a fantastic win on a score line of 1-10 to 1-05. This was a very competitive game throughout and it was only in the closing minutes that a late goal from Mark Hynes gave the Rovers some breathing room and the cushion of a five point victory. The lads have one game left in the grading league which is at home to Mallow on the 6th May. Bride Rovers under13 Hurling Green’ team were away to Youghal on Saturday evening last in the final P2 grading game. Youghal provided a huge test for the boys and this was undoubtedly one of the toughest games they have played to date. the Rovers started strongly and were on the score board early with a few well taken points however as the first half wore on, Youghal started to take a grip and took some fantastic scores to lead at half time on a score line of 1-05 to 1-03 with the Rovers goal coming from Micheal Walsh. The Rovers went out for the second half and upped the work rate significantly to run out winners on a score line of 3-09 to 1-11 with the two second half goals coming from Finn O'Driscoll. The lads will now look forward to starting the 2022 league campaign in earnest in the coming weeks and will have gained great confidence from these grading games. The U13 fixtures for the coming week are as follows - Green team P2 Football away to Youghal on Wednesday 27th at 7pm and the Gold team are at home to Midleton in C3 Hurling on Friday 29th at 7pm. It’s great to see so many young players improving their hurling and football skills all the time. Wining games is lovely but the brilliant thing about these lads and their mentors is that they are really enjoying the involvement and having great fun.
Under 19 hurling v St Colmcilles. We were down to play the Whites Cross/Carrignavar combination, St. Colmcilles in the County U 19 Hurling League last Wednesday night but our opposition were unable to field a team on the night.
WELL DONE LOUIE.
Well done to Louie Roche who was on the Cork East under 17 Hurling team who competed in the Celtic League last Saturday. With good wins over Kilkenny, Limerick and Waterford Cork topped their group. Cork East now go on to the Celtic League Quarter Finals in two weeks time, congrats Louie.

CORK V CLARE.
Cork hurlers traditionally love playing in Thurles, well on Sunday next we’ll be hoping that the memories of the Limerick game in ‘the Park’ two weeks ago will be forgotten. Having lost their opening game the Rebels are under pressure and after their mighty win over Tipp Clare will be in a confident mood as they step out onto Semple Stadium for the second Sunday in a row. It’s 50 years ago since I first saw Cork playing Clare in Senior Hurling. That was in the 1972 Munster Final and Cork won that day in Thurles on a score line of 6 18 to 2 8. Charlie McCarthy with 2 9 scored more than Kerry that day with Ray Cummins and the late Seanie O leary adding 2 1 apiece. One thing I’d say concerning next weekends game is there won’t be 22 points between the teams. With away games still to come against Waterford and Tipperary Cork will need a win on Sunday
Fr Martin Kavanagh SMA.
Last weekend Fr Martin Kavanagh, a priest of the Society of Missions to Africa (SMA) preached in the parish. He was promoting the Mission work of the SMA’s and appealing for prayers and for funds. Fr Martin knew all about Bride Rovers- he was classmate of Fr Gussie and Fr Fachtna O Driscoll both SMA priests. A Dub by birth Martin is a St Vincent’s GAA Clubman. Fachtna is at present on Mission duty in Liberia whilst Gus is in Blackrock Road and Wilton in Cork.
ED SHEERAN.
Tonight and tomorrow night will see massive crowds in Pairc Ui Chaoimh for international superstar Ed Sheeran. With Wexford connections the singer is just starting on a 3 year World Tour. To all the locals going to the concerts -have wonderful night.
PAIRC UI RINN –“Newbridge or nowhere”.
Well the precedent set by the Kildare footballers in refusing to budge from Newbridge has been replicated by the Cork SF panel. The Munster Semi final V Kerry now looks likely to go ahead on Saturday week in Pairc Ui Rinn.

Conor Prunty (Waterford) and Conor Boylan (limerick)both lined out in last Saturday night’s Munster SHC game at the Gaelic Grounds. Both are descended from the Woods family of Bartlemy Village
UNDER 10’s IN ACTION .
Our under 10s fielded 4 teams last Saturday morning and welcomed Ballygiblin and Ballincollig to Páirc Na Bride. The matches were very competitive and the spirit of Bride Rovers was on full view as the lads threw themselves into every tackle and ruck. The lads spent a 30 minute session on Wednesday night in training practicing hooking and blocking and it was very pleasing to see so much of this on view during the matches.
Training continues for Hurling on Wednesday nights at 6pm on the main pitch
Next Match: Sunday May 1st..the trip to Tipp! So many of our youngsters are all excited this week as they prepare for a Hurling blitz v Thurles Gaels in Thurles next Sunday May the 1st. A total of 87 juveniles and mentors from the under 9s, 10s and 11s will leave on a double-decker bus from Rathcormac on Sunday morning early. They will head to Thurles, play some matches and then head to Semple Stadium to watch the Rebels play the Banner. For many it’s probably their first time getting to visit Semple Stadium so wish everyone a great fun-filled day.
CUL CAMP 2022.
Exciting news as our 2022 Cul camp has been confirmed. It will start on Monday July 25th and go on until the following Friday- strange isn’t it that on Monday July 25th all the talk will probably be of the All Ireland Senior Football Final which is down for decision in Croke Park the previous day, Sunday July 25th. Restrictions on numbers attending the camp will apply again this year. Registration for the Cul camp will be opening on line shortly.
“HOLY TERRORS” 1880’s.
Back in the 18880’s when the GAA first ‘took root’ in our parish Fr Edmond Barry PP was the driving force behind the Hurling and Football teams. Teams were 21 a side back then. So many players were anxious to compete that they had no problem with fielding two teams. Even then there were still more hurlers available. A Third ‘21’ was entered and one Sunday evening after Fr Barry returned from a funeral in Castlelyons the Third String were practising. The Priest enquired as to how they were getting on. One man on the side-line declared ‘Do you know what Father, they are downright Holy Terrors’ Fr Barry laughed and so the Third String was named! Back in the 1970’s when we joined with Lisgoold for under 16 hurling we requested the East Cork Juvenile Board to let us use the name ‘Holy Terrors’ but it was deemed ‘unsuitable’! so we went as Hollyhill Rovers instead! The 2022 version of the Holy Terrors play their first home JHL game ion this Friday night April 29th when we are at home to Dungourney.
UNDER 11 HURLING.
We had a panel of 24togged out when we hosted Carrigaline on Saturday last . There was great hurling played by both sides. These are fantastic games to watch, no one worries about the score, it’s just great effort from start to finish. The skills of the young Rover’s hurlers has improved exceptionally and they did themselves proud . Our panel was Senan Delaney , Padraig Barry, Cathal Quinlan , Denis Skillington, Conor Collins , Kai Roddis, Neo Ocenas, Danny Malac , Jack O’Dowd , Jack Mohally, Rhys Horne , Diarmuid O’Regan, Ciaran Mohally, James O ‘Regan , Killian Murphy , David O Brien , Jakub Dwornicki, Darragh Murphy , Ellen Hegarty, Thomas Hegarty, Luke Kelleher, Harry O Keeffe, Evan Hogan . TRIP TO TIPP ON SUNDAY;
The bus will leave Pairc na Bride at 8.30am, arrive at Thurles Gaels for 10am . Currently we have 74 players between 3 age groups; U9/10/11 travelling up on Kearney’s double decker bus. After a series of games at Kickham Park, home of Thurles Gaels we will have lunch and then continue on to Semple Stadium to sit cheer on the Cork senior hurlers.. Current plan is to arrive back home to Bride Rovers HQ and enjoy some hot food in the large Astro . We are trying to make this trip accessible to all and have no financial barrier to any player so any donations or sponsorship towards the trip would be gratefully accepted.
SCRAP METAL SURVEY.
We are at present organising a Scrap Metal Collection. If you have, or know someone who has, a quantity of scrap metal to be disposed of pleas ring John on 087 9538077. Cars, trailers, bicycles, tractors, barrels, old feeding troughs, broken metal toys, galvanise, obsolete farm implements, batteries -basically all metal items are acceptable. Please ring before April 28th.

At present we are widening our contact base to ensure as many as possible are kept up to date with all Bride Rovers happenings. AS well as the Text service we have launched a Whatsapp group.
