Footballers get their medals..

The Junior A footballers had a celebration night in Barry's Bar, Rathcormac on Saturday night with the medal presentation for the 2021 Championship success taking place. There was also a Players Player of the Year award with Liam Forde being recognised by his peers for his consistent performances in last year's championship. John Arnold was MC for the night. First to speak was Club Chairman Ger lane who congratulated all involved with the 2021 JAFC win, the third in the Club’s History. He paid special tribute to Vincent Cronin and his selectors Batt O Connell, Anthony Cahill, Maurice Dooley and Devon Roche and the panel of players for their efforts last year. The East Cork Medals were then presented to the players by Jimmy Ryan- Jimmy also presented the Eamonn Ryan Memorial medal to Cian Hogan on the day of the East Cork Final in Carrignavar in recognition of his Man of The match performance that day. Vincent then spoke and thanked all the players and management and the Club for the help during the year and said our ambition should be to try and retain the Jim Ryan Cup for 2022. Thanks to the Mannix family for hosting the Event.

UNDER 13’ IN ACTION;

Bride Rovers U13 Hurling Gold team were away to Blackrock on Thursday evening for their second game in the C3 league competition. This was a tough hour of hurling for the boys and they were well beaten by the Rockies. The boys were slow to settle into this one and only really got going in the second half where they battled to the end in true Rovers style. The U13 Gold Hurling team have one game remaining in their league which will be at home to Midleton on Friday 29th April at 7pm.

Bride Rovers U13 Football Green team were away to Midleton on Monday evening for their second game in the Premier 2 league competition. Having ran Midleton close last year, the lads were hopeful that they would be able to put up a good performance against a strong Midleton team. This was a tough game for the boys and Midleton were dominant in the first half and led by 2-04 to no score at half time. The Second half was a different game and only for some brilliant saves from the Midleton keeper, this would have been a very different result. The lads worked to the final whistle and were well beaten in the end on a score line of 4-07 to 0-02. There is one game remaining in this football grading section against Youghal and is fixed for Wednesday 27th April at 7pm.  The U13 fixtures for the coming week are - Gold team hurling away to Midleton on Thursday 21st at 7pm and the Green team hurling away to Youghal on Saturday 23rd at 4pm.

EAST CORK JFL

The Junior A footballers were away to Carrigtwohill on Saturday last and came away on the wrong side of a 1-09 to 2-09 score line. This was a good workout for the lads with 23 players togged out and getting game time on the night. The team and scorers on Saturday was: Stephen Glasgow, Jordan Mannix, Conor Barry (1-03), Nicky Kelleher, Cian Howard, William Finnegan (0-01), Jason Mannix, Seamus Ahern, John O'Sullivan, Ben Hogan, Oisin Roche, Jamie Buckley, Cian Hogan (0-02), Paul Larkin, Adam Walsh (0-02), Tadhg O'Sullivan, Paddy O'Flynn, Jack Connor, Edmund Cashman, Shane Walsh, Damien Buckley, Ciaran Crowley and Liam Forde. The next league game for these lads is on Tuesday 26th April at 7pm away to Lisgoold.

CORK V LIMERICK

A huge crowd gathered on Leeside on Sunday last to see a repeat of the 2021 All Ireland Final. It was the same two teams and unfortunately the same result. After a blistering start Cork were 1 3 to 0 1 ahead but this Limerick don’t do panic. They pointed their way back in to the match. Corks short passing defensive strategy just didn’t work on the day. I’m no hurling tactician but why not puck it out long and then crowd the area where the sliotar is coming down – at least the ball is 50/50 and we’ve a chance of winning it. I suppose a long highball and whip in the air is out of the question completely?  Look Cork tried hard but this is a super Limerick team. Should tactics now be changed for the next 3 games? Is it too late to do that? Questions, questions but the Rebels are not gone , there’s a lot of hurling left in this Munster Championship. Thurles here we come -twice!

 UNDER 15s BUSY;

We played Mallow away in our third division 1 hurling league match on Wednesday 13th April. Mallow started really strongly and played very well and the half time score was Bride Rovers 0-6 to Mallow 1-9. We did our best to get into the game in the second half but Mallow just seemed to have the edge on the night winning on a score of 2-18 to Bride Rovers 1-11. Our next hurling league game is at home to Newtownshandrum on the 27th of April.

We played in the National Hurling Feile on Saturday 16th April at  St Catherines club in Ballynoe. The teams in our group were St Catherines, Fermoy and Killeagh. In our first game we lost to Killeagh, the second game was against Fermoy which we won and the third game was against St Catherines which we also won. So we marginally missed out on progressing to the next round due to Killeagh and Fermoy drawing in the last game. A huge thanks to St Catherines for hosting this event on Saturday it was incredibly well ran on the day and a special thanks to all the ladies who supplied the teas and coffees and the hot rolls for all the  players. Players on the day Ronan Barry Jack Mannix Darragh Delaney David o Connell Adam Kelleher Jack Hynes Gearoid o Connell Tomas o Riordan Thomas Hackett Cormac Barry \ Captain /  David Cash Sean Dowling Sean Madden Jack Collins Conor o Riordan Jamie Walsh Denis Fitzgerald Shane o Dowd Matthew Kenny Owen Ryan Jack Lynch .

UNDER 14 HURLING v WATERGRASSHILL.

Bride Rovers U14s lost their first match of the league campaign away from home to near rivals Watergrasshill. The match was a tight affair in the first half with the Rovers boys leading by a point (1-6 to 1-5) at half time. A host of injuries early in the second half changed the dynamic of the game and allowed Watergrasshill gain the ascendancy in the second half. A few late goals by Watergrasshill also skewed the scoreline to give an unfair reflection on what was a tight encounter for the majority of the game. A missed penalty by Bríde Rovers summed up a match where Lady Luck didn’t shine on the boys. That said the performance, particularly in the first half, was among their best against a strong Watergrasshill outfit.  Final score: Watergrasshill 4-13 Bríde Rovers 1-8.  Panel:  Owen Ryan, David Dixon, Shane O’Dowd, Éanna Lyons, Cathal Barry, Jamie Walsh, Jack Lynch, James Finn, Garry Quirke, Darragh O’Farrell, Denis Fitzgerald, James Larkin, Michael Gubbins, Matthew Kenny, Adam Kelleher, Eoghan Buckley, Matthew O Sullivan, Michéal Walsh & Adam Murphy Fitzgibbon.

U19 FOOTBALL REPORT

We travelled to the MTU (formerly CIT) grounds last Wednesday to face Passage West in our first football match of the season.We were down a lot of players due to injuries and work commitments and had only 14 players to start. We played with a strong wind it took our lads a while to get going and by half time we led by 4 points. The second half was a right battle and with Passage able to bring on a few subs our lads battled on to the end and got a deserved draw  Panel Ronan, Darragh Kielty, Liam, Oran, Kieran, Conor, Adam Hynes ,Josh, Adam Walsh, Edmond, Adam Hayes, Cillian Barry, Jacob, Cormac.

Trip to Tipp May 1st

Thurles Gaels juvenile GAA Club was formed in 2006 and caters for the Juveniles of the three Thurles Clubs Sarsfields, Rahenity and Fennellys. They reached out and invited any Cork team up to play their teams prior to the Cork v Clare Munster Senior Hurling Championship match on the 1st May. We jumped at the opportunity and invited our under 9, under 10 and under 11 age groups . The plan being finalised at present  is to go up to Thurles in a double decker bus leaving the banks of the Bride at 8.30 am , play a few games of hurling, and possibly football, against Thurles Gaels  in their grounds, Kickham Park. We will then head on Semple Stadium where we are extremely lucky to have secured tickets from the County Board to attend Cork v Clare . After the match we will jump back on the bus and head for some food before arriving back to Pairc na Bride after a fantastic day of GAA !

UNDER 12’s ON THE ROAD

The under12 boys were away to Killeagh on Monday night last . The boys put in a good performance and were 2 points down at half time. The second half was close too but Killeagh got 2 goals and a few points in the final quarter to win on a scoreline of 3-8 to 2-3. The team on the night was: Daniel, Jack, Cathal O'B, Zack, Sam, Nathan, Cody, Fionn L, Liam, Sean F, Elliot, Alex and Fionn C. Our next game is hurling away to Kiltha og on Monday 25th.
