Tony Walsh Final Today..

On this  Saturday evening we play mallow in a double-header at Rathcormac at 6 o clock. The game is a Red FM SHL tie and also the Final of the Tony Walsh Tournament. Tony Walsh was a Bride Rovers Club Stalwart for decades as a player, selector, trainer, mentor advisor and benefactor. His family are steeped in Bride Rovers history and it’s right and proper to play this tournament in his memory. Since the Cup was first played for in 2015 it’s gone to Waterford, Carlow and Cork teams. We won it last year defeating Ballyduff Upper in the Final. Having lost our opening 2 SHL games we need a win. Mallow will be great opposition- they beat us above in Kildorrery last year in the Championship. After the game we will be making presentations to our 5 players Brian, Eoin, Paddy, Cillian and Adam who won All Ireland medals with Cork last year and to Barry Johnson as well. We will also honour our three referees who have officiated at Divisional, County, Provincial; and national level. Medals will also be presented to the 2021 winning u 13 and u 15 teams. The Tournament Final starts at 6pm.

CORK v WTERFORD.

Waterford powered their way to a fourth NHL title in Tom Semple’s famous Stadium in Thurles last Saturday night. Cork simply had no answer to the Decies caman-wielders who were goal-hungry one more. The challenge now for the Rebels is to pick up the momentum for the weekend after next when Limerick come to town. Conor Prunty the Waterford Captain received the Croke Cup from GAA president Larry McCarthy -Conor’s grandmother on his mother’s side was Peggy Woods of Bartlemy who married Tom Cotter the famous Kilworth publican. Peggy Woods was a 1st cousin of Con Murphy who won a Senior All Ireland with Cork in 1946- you can’t bate breeding!

UNDER 15 HURLERS WIN.

Bride Rovers U15 hurlers welcomed (Kilara Og) Kilworth/Araglen to Rathcormac on Thursday 31st March for the second round of the division 1 hurling league. This was an important game for both teams because both teams were on one win each and seeking qualification to the top tier. Good hurling was played by both sides with the half time score was Bride Rovers 4 - 7  to Kilworth/Araglen Og 2 -3. In the second half both teams played good hurling with Bride Rovers just having the edge on the night. The match finished on a score of Bride Rovers 10 - 15 to Kilworth/Araglen Og 6 - 6. Special thanks to our sponsor East Cork Fireplaces.

U10 report

The U10s faced Bishopstown last Saturday in their first outing of the year in hurling. After a slow start, the lads really showed what they’re made of, as their work rate and skill really came to the fore. Some great scores off the weaker side along with some great harrying, hooking and blocking was fantastic to see and we can't wait for our next hurling game in two weeks time. Next week sees us on the road for the first time as we play St.Colmans in Cloyne in football.

Squad: Adam Hackett, Callum Dixon, Cameron Hoare, Cian Barry, Conor Dorgan, Conor Healy, Eoghan Croke, Harry Fitzgerald, Jack Fitzgerald, Jack O'Donovan, Jack Roddis, James McDonnell, James O'Leary, Kai Roddis, Luke Fitzgerald, Matthew Finn, Noah Collins, Oisin Dorgan, Patrick O'Connell, Patrick O'Regan, Ryan Field, Scott Lynch, Sean O'Dowd, Shane Brophy, Theo Byrd,

UNDER 14 HURLING LOCAL DERBY.

Bride Rovers U14s 5-9 Castlelyons U14s 5-5

The U14s played their second hurling league match of the campaign against near rivals Castlelyons on Sunday last in Páirc na Bhríde.  The weather conditions were perfect for the match with the pitch likewise. The boys raced into an early 1-2 to nil lead with Denis Fitgerald leading the way from centre forward.  After the initial 10 minutes where the Rovers lads were dominant, the flow then changed with  Castlelyons coming into the game and the rest of the first half was a close competitive affair.  Bride Rovers edged it at half time with a 3 point gap. The second half was a continuation of the tight play in the first half.  Castelyons managed to get back to a drawn match at one stage but the Rovers lads then upped their game and got the necessary scores to win by 4 points in the end.  It was a satisfying win but both sides deserve equal credit for giving it their all. The Bride Rovers panel was:  Owen Ryan, David Dixon, Jamie Walsh, Con McCormack, James Larkin, Jack Lynch, Éanna Lyons, James Finn, Garry Quirke, Darragh O'Farrell, Denis Fitzgerald, Matthew Swalbe O'Sullivan, Michael Gubbins, Matthew Kenny, Adam Kelleher, Eoghan Buckley & Shane O'Dowd.   Next match is away to Watergrasshill on Monday 18th April.
