Happy Christmas & a Bright new Year..
It’s the last week of 2021 and though there’s a sense of foreboding and apprehension all over the Country it’s Christmas time so let’s rejoice. Little did we think this time last year that the word covid would still be mentioned as we go into 2022 ach sin mar a bhfuil and all we can do is to stay safe. As new Health and Public Safety restrictions came into force this week we urge everyone to take all the precautions for all our sakes. Mind each other and look out for those who need a helping hand. We had our Christmas Lotto and Draw last week as well as the Club 100 Bonus Draw. Congratulations to Tom O Riordan of Caherduggan, Bartlemy who won the €1000 prize and to all our prizewinners. All the results are included with these notes. On behalf of all involved with the Bride Rovers GAA Club may I wish each and everyone a very Happy, Holy and peaceful Christmas Season and a Bright and Healthy New Year of 2022. Sincere thanks to all who are involved in our Club and this comes to hundreds and hundreds of people, young and old. We value the contributions made by so many, not just this year but down All the years. May this time be very special for you all. It’s been a difficult time especially for those who lost loved ones during the past twelve months, we are with ye in our thoughts this Christmas time. We extend special greetings to our fans and supporters scattered all over the World for this Holy Season. We in Bride Rovers are delighted that ye continue to support the Club from afar. The Avondhu & The Echo
A special word of thanks to the management and Staff of The Avondhu for the extensive coverage they afford us each week throughout the year. We are so lucky to have such an outstanding newspaper in our area which provides such entertainment and pleasure for so many people. Thanks also to The Echonewspaper for great GAA coverage during the year.
SO NEAR AND YET SO FAR.
As the concluding stages of the AIB Club Championships are reached there have been some heroic performances and some heartbreaks too. Take Clough/Ballacolla from Laois. They won back to back Senior County Hurling titles . Then they reached their first ever Leinster Final in Croke Park last Sunday. They played great hurling all year but Ballyhale Shamrocks were just too strong. Spare a thought for St Rynagh’s the Offaly Champions who were leading Ballyhale by three points deep into injury time in their semi final only for the Cats to snatch a draw and then win in extra time. Walter (Watty) Graham lived but a short life from 1763 until 1798. He was a Presbyterian Minister in Maghera ‘the Glen’ in County Derry. He joined the United Irishmen Revolutionary movement and took part in the ’98 Rising. He was arrested and hung. His memory lives on with GAA Club in his parish Watty Grahams of The Glen. They won their first ever Derry County SFC title this year. On Sunday in Armagh they looked as if they might reach a historic Ulster Club Final v Derrygonnely Harps of Fermanagh but a goal from Kilcoo’s Jerome Johnson sent them out. Ironically Kilcoo’s manager is Mickey Moran a native of The Glen!
“Eamonn Ryan, An Maistir”
Earlier this year the GAA world was saddened and shocked at the death of Eamonn Ryan. Eamonn, a native of Watergrasshill, was an accomplished hurler and footballer with the Hill and Glenville. He was on the Cork Senior F team which lost to Meath in the 1967 All Ireland Final. He later went on to be a Cork SF selector and manager. It was however his feats with the Cork Ladies Football team that brought the most fame and glory to Eamonn and the Rebel County. Cork had never won the Senior All Ireland in Ladies Football until Eamonn took ver. During his term at the helm the Cork girls won Ten All Ireland titles, a feat that probably will never be repeated. Over the last few months TG4 have been recording a TV programme to pay special tribute to Eamonn. It will be broadcast on TG4 on Tuesday December the 30th at 9.20pm. It promises to be a great tribute to a great man and should not be missed.

Congrats to Art Supple of Gortroe in East Cork who celebrated his 80th Birthday last Tuesday December the 21st. A lifelong member, and current President, of St Itas Hurling Club Art realized a long-held ambition this year when his Club won their first ever East Cork A Grade Junior Hurling Championship. A brilliant singer and showman known as ‘Mr Personality’ Art has been on stage for over 60 years and with his band The Victors was part of the mega Showband Era of the 1960’s and 1970’s. Happy Birthday Art.
CLUB 100 & ANNUAL LOTTO TICKETS.
We are seeking new members for 2022 for our Club 100 Scheme. There are 3 Club 100 Packages Bronze Membership at €20 per month, Silver which is €30 per month and Gold at €40 per month. Each Package includes Club Membership and a minimum of 1 yearly Lotto Ticket- that’s the Bronze option. The Gold covers Full Membership, Ticket in the Rebel Bounty monthly Draw, 2 ticket each week in the Club Lotto and entry to the Club 100 Bonus Draw. With huge financial commitments now undertaken for future Development we will need a huge income stream annually. Another way of supporting the Club is by purchasing a yearly Lotto Ticket for €90.
