Juvenile AGM Reports a year of great progress..
The 44th AGM of the Bride Rovers Juvenile GAA Club was held via Zoom on Friday night last December the 10th. Thirty members ‘joined in’ for a very business-like and positive meeting. Back in 1977 when the Juvenil
e Club was set up as a separate body from the Adult Club teams were entered in under 14 and under 16 Hurling and Football, four teams. This past year the Club catered for each age group from under 6 to under 18 in hurling and football- a total of 26 teams!
RUNAI’s REPORT.
In her Secretary’s Report to the AGM Lisa Collins outlined the huge amount of work that went on in the Club during 2021. Hereunder is a Summary.
Academy ages from U6 to U11 returned to train & play in big numbers, which was great to see and participated in go-games blitzes and games throughout the year.
§ U11- they won and retained the Jerard Kenny annual memorial Blitz.
§ U12 – they had a fantastic year by winning the leagues in both Division 2 & Division 5 in both codes of Hurling & football.
§ U13 – They reached the North Division 2 hurling final narrowly losing out to Shandrum, they also reached the plate final in football, defeating Kildorrery in the final.
§ U14 – They were narrowly defeated in the P2 Hurling Final after extra time to Na Piarsaigh, they reached the P2 quarter final stage of football, and finished the year well by winning and retaining the cup in the Theresa Walsh memorial hurling blitz.
§ U15 - They narrowly lost out on reaching the A grade hurling final, but won the Plate final defeating Ballyhea. They also participated in the Feile competition in Carrig Na Bhfearr.
§ U16 – They won the U16 (13 a side) county league championship and lost narrowly to Aghada in the P2 championship semi-final.
§ U17 – They reached the P1 hurling final and lost to the Glen in a great final played at Pairc Ui Rinn, they won the shield football against Wolfe tone who conceded the game.
§ U18-They reached the championship hurling final which was played only last Saturday 4th December in bad conditions but they won in a very close fought game defeating Kiltha Og.
§ Cul Camp went ahead with both Juvenile & ladies clubs joining together with 200 boys and girls participating. well, done to Jerome and all who helped in any way to make this happen this year.
§ To all those boys who participated with Cork, Rebel Og, Avondhu & Imokilly panels in both hurling & football throughout the year
§ To all the lads who participated with their school teams, the Dean Ryan & Harty with St Colman’s and the hurling /football in Colaiste an Chraoibhin.
§ Congratulations to Both Adam Walsh & Cillian Tobin and the Cork Minors for the great victories in both the Munster Hurling Final and All Ireland Finals of 2021.
§ Thanks to our young members who did the young whistlers, garda vetting & child protection courses in order to assist the academy groups with home refereeing and also assisting with the Cul camp.
CONCLUSION OF REPORT; In concluding my report I would like to offer a sincere ‘thank you’ to the officers of the Adult Club for their support and help throughout this year, for all the trainers and mentors who took the time to help and train all our juvenile teams to where they are today and I would also like to thank my fellow offices of the Ladies club. I would like to say a special thank you to Denis Ahern and John Murphy for looking after our pitches and always making sure facilities were available for East Region and Central matches. Thanks also to our Eastern Region Board, Central Region Board, Northern Board and Rebel Og for all the help and support you have given both myself and our Juvenile club for the 2021 season. To all the team secretaries who make my job so much in all your communications regarding Eastern, Northern and Central Boards, I truly believe I would not be able to fulfill my role without your help and support, so thank you. I would also like to acknowledge all the help and support from Liam Barry, the staff of Fermoy Print and especially our PRO John Arnold. Thank you to our Eastern, Northern and Central Board Delegate for fixing and coordinating matches throughout the year. To My Fellow Officers Mark O’ Connell and Ken O’ Riordan, thank you for all the support you have shown me again this year as it has been a strange year which to be honest hasn’t been easy on any scale but what this club continues to achieve is phenomenal. I truly appreciate the patience and understanding that you both have shown me. I would also like to thank all our juveniles as without you we wouldn’t be here tonight, your dedication and hard work is truly something that you, your families, your parish and your club should be proud of. Finally on behalf of the juvenile club I would like to remember all families who have lost loved ones during 2021 and offer them our sincere condolences. Thank you to everyone who has logged on tonight and I would like to wish Bride Rovers Juvenile Club and its Officers all the best for 2022 Go raibh mile maith agaibh. Eilis Ni Coilean.
All the team secretaries reported on their activities during the year which despite it’s late start proved to be a great season for our Club. It’s not all about winning but contesting 21 league, tournament and championship Finals in the past year was no mean feat. The levelof activity in the Club is well reflected in the COACHING OFFICER (JEROME O DRISCOLL’S) REPORT FOR 2021. This year we had just over 40 adults complete the Foundation Coaching Course. The course profile changed during Covid with a preliminary online part to be completed initially with a practical follow up. We have to compliment the many parents who completed the course specifically to assist in Cul Camp this year as coaches or supervisors. Over the last 4 years we have had a massive uptake in the numbers completing the Foundation Course with many then continuing onto the Level 1 course. A rough estimate would be that we’ve had approximately 140 members complete the basic coaching requirement in the last 4 years. We currently have a list of 10 new coaches signed up for the next course which will happen in Jan/Feb. Cul Camp. A large emphasis was placed on this years camp as we had no camp in 2020 and new guidelines from Croke Park meant that coaching structures would be monitored by RebelOg. The camp was Co-ordinated by Jerome O’Driscoll and Grace Kearney with support from Catherine Murphy. Thanks also to Rosario Kielty who was heavily involved in the vetting and Child Protection Courses. With Covid guidelines stating that a cap of 200 kids could participate we decided to amalgamate the boys and girls into the same session. This allowed us to target coaches who had both boys and girls attending the camp. With confusion over the use of coaches under the age of 18 we made a “call to arms” of all underage coaches from both boys and girls clubs and the response was overwhelming. We ended up with in excess of 55 adults who gave of their time voluntarily during the week. I won’t mention names because I’ll leave someone out but a huge thank you to everyone who gave everything from a day to 5 days. All coaches had all relevant coaching and vetting requirements completed. The itinerary was run along a school schedule. Each group got a different coach after every 30 minutes which really freshened up the days. Both boys and girls rotated each day with hurling/camogie and football with the final hour each day dedicated to mini tournaments and fun games. The week ended up a huge success with the feedback from parents and coaches overwhelming. A huge thanks to all coaches who contributed and to the officers of all clubs for their backing in hosting the week.
Outgoing Chairman Mark O Connell reflected on a very unusual but extremely successful year for the Bride Rovers Juvenile Club. He thanked each and everyone who helped out in any way. He commented on the ever-increasing numbers of players we now cater for from the Academy right up to 18 years of age.2021 saw the first ever Minor All Ireland Medals come to the Club with Cillian Tobin and Adam Walsh both starring for Cork. Mark wished the incoming Officers all the best and hoped the Club will continue to prosper. The Adult Club chairman Gerard Lane then presided over the Election of Officers for 2022. He main officers elected were William O Riordan- chairperson, Jerome O Driscoll vice chairperson, Emma Roddis, Secretary and Evelyn Murphy, Treasurer. Further details from the AGM next week.
WEEKLY CLUB LOTTO.
Results for Tuesday December the 8th. The numbers drawn were 7,12,14 and 20 and there was no jackpot winner. The Spot Prizes of €30 each went to Don Cashman Glanworth, Sarah O Flynn, Rathcormac, Richie Cahill Shanowen, Mick Kelleher Grange, Caitriona Mohally Shanowen.

PROPOSED SEEDINGS FOR THE2022 Senior A Hurling Championship.
The losing finalist from 2021 (Fr O Neills), the team relegated from the grade above (Carrigtwohill), along with the top ranked semi-finalist (based on the group stages) Newcestown will be designated as A seeds. The remaining three teams to emerge from the group stages will be designated as B seeds. All remaining teams will be designated as C/D seeds in no particular order. So the proposed groups for next year are; Seeding Team A Fr. O’Neill’s, Carrigtwohill, Newcestown B Bride Rovers, Blarney, Mallow C / D Ballyhea, Ballymartle, Cloyne, Courcey Rovers, Fermoy, Killeagh
Club Sub committees for 2022. It is planned that early in January the full membership of the various sub committees for next year will be announced.
MUNSTER JH FINAL.
Well done to Skeheenarinky and Ballygiblin on reaching the Munster Junior Hurling Championship Final . It promises to be the best of Cork v Tipp games with local rivalries, family connections, players working together, in-laws and out-laws. ‘The Banks’ and ‘Slievenamon’ will be sung I’d say by Santa Claus and many others over the next few weeks-isn’t it great! It reminds me of when Cork and Meath drew in the All Ireland Football final and the replay was coming up. At Listowel Races I met the late great Bryan McMahon and we discussed the upcoming game ’well ‘twill shorten the winter for us all’ was his comment. ‘Till be the same with this Munster Junior Final- January will be here in no time at all!
DOWN MEMORY LANE.

The Bride Rovers Club extends it’s sympathy to Club President Pat O Connor on the death of his first cousin Catherine Whelan (nee Leahy, Killamurren, Bartlemy) of Abbeyside, Dungarvan, also to Noel Molan on the death, in her 101st year, of his aunt Alice (Leish) O Brien Ballindangan Cross. Also to the Collons families of Mullentoura and O Sullivan family, Ballyhooley on the death of May O Sullivan nee Collins and to former Co. Board Officer Bryan O Loughlin of Kanturk and Douglas on the death of his wife Bernadette and also to RTE Commentator Marty Morrissey on the death of his mother Peggy.
