Bride Rovers to Aquire 13 acres of Land..

Bride Rovers GAA Club are pleased to announce that they have come to agreement with the Pyne family to acquire 13 acres of land at Ballybrowney just a half mile from our current pitch Pairc na Bríde.  

At our June Club Executive meeting Chairman Gerard Lane and Vice Chairman Pa O Driscoll reported that they had been in discussions with the Pyne Family for some time and were happy to report that the Club were being gifted 6 acres and purchasing a further 7 acres to give the club an extra  two full playing pitches to cater for the ever-growing numbers in the club.  

The Chairman and Vice Chairman outlined the details to the members and were given full approval to move ahead and finalise matters with Pat & Eileen Pyne and family.  

Members spoke of the generosity of the Pyne family and were unanimous in supporting the endeavour as the Club needs the extra facilities for our increasing numbers.  

Speaking this week Pat Pyne said, “He was delighted to be in a position to gift the 6 acres as Pynes Field has been used by teams from the parish long before the club was formed. The Pyne family have a long association of supporting the club and he has no doubt that the new pitches will be a great asset for the next generation of players”.  

Club Chairman Gerard Lane stated “This is wonderful news for the club coming at a time of great development and as the club approaches its centenary in 2028. The 13 acres which will provide two more playing pitches in addition to the new juvenile pitch will provide the club with much needed ground to cater for the growing numbers. I wish to thank Pat, Eileen and the Pyne family for their generosity and look forward along with the vice Chairman Pa O Driscoll to finalising matters over the coming months and seeing the development work going ahead next year. The Pyne family has had a long association with the parish and the club, and we are extremely grateful to them”.

JUNIOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE 

Bride Rovers Junior A Footballers played the second of three league fixtures at home to neighbours Castlelyons on Sunday evening last. This was a good physical battle from start to finish with the Rovers coming out on the right side of the result winning on a scoreline of 0-08 points to 0-06.  The panel on Sunday was - Jordan Mannix, Cian Hogan, Cian Howard, Seamus Ahern, John O'Sullivan, Paul Larkin, Shane Walsh, Liam Forde, Kieran Kearney, Tom Murray, DJ Cahill, Jason Mannix, Daniel Dooley, Ryan Prendergast, Conor Barry, Peter O'Leary, Damien Buckley, Oisin Roche, Edmund Cashman, James Barry.

The draw for this year's Junior A Football Championship took place on Monday night and will be played on a round robin basis. Bride Rovers have been drawn in a very competitive group with last years East Cork JA Football Championship winners Midleton and the other two teams in the group being Erins Own and Fr. O'Neills.

JUNIOR C HURLING.
Back in Fr Barry's era in the 1880's our third adult hurling team was known as The Holy Terrors but in 2021 we simply call them the Junior C's. They made a successful seasonal debut last Sunday. Our Juniors C’s kicked off our 2021 League campaign in style with a comprehensive win over Cloyne on a scoreline of 4:14 to 0:9. As always with the Juniors C’s we had a serious mix in generations having five players in their forties as well as a player just finished the leaving cert. We started very brightly with a goal from Jerome O’Driscoll followed by a brace of  points from play from Dave Burke. Cloyne responded with a pointed free and two more points from play but Damien Buckley pointed a 65 and another long range free in reply to gain control of the game. Jake Tobin followed up with a well taken point on the wing to extend our lead to 1.5 to 0:3 at the first water break. Two more pointed free’s from Jerome when he was fouled as well as points from Damien from a 65, Jake again with his second and Bopper before halftime had us up 1:10 to 0:3 at half time. Having played with a significant breeze in the first half we expected a tough second  half to come. Shane O Flynn got us off the mark with a point but Cloyne did come into the game more in this half and scored 6 points mainly from play, however our lads keep driving on with two excellently taken goals from Craig O’Callaghan which left the goalie with no chance. Jerome also rolled back the years to score his second goal from play followed immediately by a point from the wing and Bopper completed the scoring with our last two points from play. It was a great performance with plenty of heart and spirit shown especially by our defenders and midfielders  who tackled hard, conceded very few frees and worked the sliotar excellently to the forwards. Special mention to Mark O’Connell who made his debut in goal and looked like he had been there all his life with some great coolness shown and James Murphy who must have covered a marathon in midfield with tireless running. EAST CORK DRAWS. 

On Monday night the East Cork Board progressed the fixture list with Draws for all Championships bar JAH being made. In the JAFC we are ina  group with 2020 Champions Midleton, Erins Own and Fr O Neills. In Junior B Hurling our group also has Midleton, Aghada and Sars. In Junior C Hurling we are in a group of 3 with Lisgoold and St Catherines. The3 plan is to commence the JAFC in early July but this will depend on Clubs having players playing with Cork teams or not. 

Minor Hurling.  It's hard to get used to the fact that Minor is now under 17. We played Carrigtwohill last Sunday evening in a challenge match in Rathcormac with five of our regular players out through injuries and intercounty  commitments. We had a young team out on the night who competed brilliantly against a strong Carrig panel in a fine game   Panel; Ronan O Riordan, Cameron O Sullivan, Liam Collins, Darragh Kielty, Ronan O Connell, Conor Hazelwood, Kieran Cotter, Davy Barry, Josh Ahern, Cillian Barry, Adam Hynes, Nicky Kelleher, Eldon O Conor, Adam Hayes, Ryan o Callaghan, Oran Kielty, Frank O Flynn, Ben Knox, Ciaran O Dowd

Training this Friday and Sunday 

Our first game in the Premier 1 league/championship is fixed for Wednesday 30th June at home to na Piarsaigh at 7pm

U 7's. Our under 7's travelled in numbers to Togher last Saturday to meet the Barrs. We had 25 players split into five teams, playing three games each. Both sides were evenly matched and some great scored delivered by our Bride boys. 

Next Saturday we play hurling which is away to Carrigtwohill at 10.30am.

U 8 Football.  Our U8’s travelled to St. Finbarrs last Saturday morning for their first football match of the year. Overall we played 10 matches with each player giving it their maximum with some marvellous individual performances. The Barrs had a larger pick and some excellent footballers but we are really seeing our players really blossoming and getting stuck into it in true Bride Rovers passion. 17 players in total represented us with pride. Panel was Dara Murphy, Tiarnan Lyons, Killian Donegan, Harry Fitzpatrick, Hugh Clerkin, Theo Skillington, Daniel Fitzgerald, Elliot Fitzgerald, Eoin Burke, Joey Allen, Luke Buckley, Niamh Finn, Logan Ryan, Fionn Purcell, John Keating, Jamie Kearney & Oisin Barry-Sheehan. We travel on Saturday to Carrigtwohill for our next hurling round of the Go-Games where we will be hoping to build on the great performance against Blackrock in the first round.

U 9's A week on from playing the County hurling champions, it was time to take on the County football champions as Rovers took on the Barrs from the city. Four games against the Barrs under9s provided wins all round as the boys excelled again for a second week in a row. From skilful long range scores to tackling of the highest order, Rovers came out on top in all games. The most pleasing aspect was seeing the performance of some of the quieter players who really stood out this week. The lads are beginning to develop well and are loving the games at the moment.  

This week, we return to the small ball at Páirc Na Bride where we welcome Carrigtwohill at 11am. Training on Wednesday night will be hurling at 6.30pm on the main pitch. Then on Saturday  July 3rd we are  at home to Bandon in football at 11am

U 11's . The under11's were away to St Finbarrs on Saturday morning.  It was the first football game of the year. Two evenly matched sides played two entertaining games. Our next game is hurling away to Carrigtwohill on Saturday. 

 U12's  On Monday 14th we played our first set of under12 football games in our new Juvenile pitch. With Denis Ahern & John Murphy the joint grounds-men having the pitch cut and lined it looked spectacular on a bright summer evening.

First up was our Green team V Castlelyons who showed a real display of skill, teamwork and work-rate. Led by Finn at midfield, Michael at centre forward and Cathal marshalling our defence we outscored Castlelyons by 5-18 to 2-3. This was a great display of what our lads are capable of with a great sense of teamwork and overlapping, everyone working as a unit. Finn finished with 2-6, Michael and Nathan raising the green flag and points being scored at will by our forwards in what was a great 50 minutes of football.

Our Gold team took to the field after to play a very strong Erins Own team who had some players that had played for their "A" team the day before. This really was the difference between the teams. We conceded some early goals, which we fought hard to reply to, but some wayward and unlucky finishing cost us. Darren "Dazzler" Kearney chipped in with a lovely point towards the end with Ciaran following up with a goal. Final score 5-11 to 1-3.In total 30 lads played football that Monday night which is a great credit to the club. 

On Monday 21st our Green team travelled to Castlemartyr to play Kiltha Og in our second hurling league game. In truth many of our lads never got going as the work-rate and grit that was on show for the last 2 games was severely missing. Despite this it was a good hours hurling with some great scores on show and very limited misses! We played 15 a side so all of our squad played the full game. Again like the Carrigtwohill game we conceded 4 early goals and then played our way back into the game. We actually led with 5 minutes to go but conceded a goal to lose by 2 points. Final score was 5-5 to 6-4.  Team- Bobby, Evan, Donagh, Cian, Oliver, Cathal, Calum, Finn, Tadhg, Mark, Michael, John, Sebastian, Ciaran, Colm. Scores: Finn 1-3, Ciaran 2-0, Michael 1-2, Bobby 1-0.

Our Gold team took on a strong Douglas team at home in Pynes. After a poor first half we settled into the game with some excellent workrate and tackling in the second half. Douglas were much the bigger team and scored some early goals which again proved decisive. We settled in the seciond taking some fine scores. Final Score: 3-2 to 0-5. Panel: Darragh, Shane D, Shane Mac, Dazzler, Bobby, Cody, Dylan, Eoin, Euan, Danny, Daniel G, Luke , Conor, Nathan, Conn, Jeff. Scores: Bobby 0-4, Darren 0-1. 

Over the last few weeks we've fielded 2 teams and a total of up to 31 players have been involved which is superb. Upcoming games:

Under 16 Hurling. After our victory against Mallow  we are at home to  v Aghada  at 3-00 in the main pitch on next Saturday June the 26th.Saturday 26.  

STAY SAFE. A timely  reminder that as per all sporting organisations Covid Guidelines and  Government Regulations, all spectators and officials who are not involved directly with a match in Páirc Na Bride are urged to wear a face mask  while on the grounds. This is for your health and safety and the health and safety of those around you. The better we are wearing masks for the foreseeable future, the more people who will be allowed to attend events including GAA matches over the coming weeks and months.
