Lotto Jackpot €20,000.
It was back in the month of February 1995 at a Bride Rovers Club meeting that a discussion on fundraising took place. Various ideas were debated and finally it was decided to run a Weekly Club Lotto. It was agreed that Club members would sell tickets each week and to ask local shops, pubs and other outlets to also have tickets for sale. Tuesday night was picked as Lotto night and it was decided to hold the draw in the Public Houses in the Parish on a rota basis. The first Draw was held on Tuesday March 5th 1996 in the Rathcormac Inn. The weekly pub Rota was A;The Rathcormac Inn, B; O Dohertys, C; Denis Barrys, D; Vera Barrys and E; Paudie O Driscolls. The Lotto has been running for twenty-four years now. It has provided funding for the day to day running of the Club as well as helping with various developments over the years. Tickets for each draw are just €2 each. The tickets can be purchased in any local business outlets which are open during these troubled times. Bride Rovers GAA Club members also have tickets on sale. A nice present for someone you know would be an Annual Ticket in the Draw which costs just €90. To purchase tickets online go to http;//briderovers.ie . Full details of the Lotto are on the Bride Rovers GAA Club Website which is updated weekly.

COUNTY BOARD MEETING
The first 'full' County Board meeting since the first lockdown took place on Tuesday last night . Like nearly everything else in the country these days it was 'online' with a very lengthy Agenda.
NO JOY IN THURLES.
It was a day of 'simply not good enough' in Thurles last Saturday when our County Hurlers went down to Waterford in the Munster Championship semi final. Cork had no excuses or 'what ifs' on the day, they were simply out hurled by a better Decies team. Cork were just off the pace all over the field. This new 'Covid year Hurling' is all about huge scores, little tackling or defensive play and though the Rebels amassed 1 24 -Pat Horgan scoring a latte, late goal from a free, we were always playing second fiddle to Waterford. There's no time for post mortems or lengthy inquiries because on Saturday next it's back to Thurles again for the hurlers. We face a Dublin team that could easily have beaten Kilkenny last Saturday evening in Croke Park -just a point separated the sides. In the past we might have taken it for granted we'd beat the Dubs in hurling but not anymore. Still I believe this Cork team can improve a lot and up their performance by a huge amount. They will have to or else we'll be out of the All Ireland Championship. It's a busy weekend for Cork as on Sunday at Pairc Ui Chaoimh the footballers take on Southern rivals Kerry in the provincial semi final.

NEW CORK GAA MEMBERS DRAW.
In line with the suspension of all GAA games, the launch of the 2020/2021 Cork GAA Rebels' Bounty Draw was postponed. 'Rebels Bounty' is the new name for the Cork GAA Annual Members Monthly Draw and was to have had a gala re-launch recently but unfortunately along with so many other events this function had to go. Rebels' Bounty will instead be launched in late 20120 / early 2021 and a meeting of Cork County Board, which will be devoted solely to this item, will be held when circumstances allow. The Draw is till a monthly draw costing €10 a month to enter or a once-off payment of €100. This year there will be 30 prizes each month. The minimum First Prize each month will be €20,000 with prizes of €25,000 in December and April and in August 2021 the first prize is €100,000. Bride Rovers Club is encouraging members, players and supporters to join the Draw. Tickets can be had from Club Officers or contact our Runai Daniel Lane at 087 2070100.

CHRISTY RING.
It was just great to see so much TV, Radio and Press coverage last weekend concerning Christy Ring. Christy was born in Cloyne parish on October 31st 1920 so last Friday was exactly a century on from that day. One of the many song and ballads written about Christy is to the air of 'The Bould Thady Quill'
The Bold Christy Ring.
Ye young men of Ireland, who are anxious for hurling, A word of advice I will give unto ye,
Come down to Cork City to the athletic sports-field, And there you'll find Christy, the pride of the Lee.
'Tis he'll show you hurling like Finn or Cuchulainn, To the name of this hero proud memory clings,
From Galway to Dublin, from Beara to Malin, All Ireland is toasting the bold Christy Ring.
Chorus:
For lifting and striking and doubling like lightning, For point and goal scoring his praises we'll sing.
His hurling's most glorious, he's always victorious, He's Cork's darling hurler, the bold Christy Ring.
Great hurlers we've had all over the country,
Blackrock's Eudie Coughlan, Sean Og and John Quirke, Jack Lynch of Glen Rovers, the 'Barrs and the Redmonds,
And the brave lads from Carrig who never did shirk. Tipperary's Pat Stakelum, Bannon and Kenny,
The Rackards of Wexford and Galway's Mick King, John Keane from the Decies, Mick Mackey of Limerick, They all must give way to the bold Christy Ring.
Chorus
In great hurling matches 'gainst Tipp. and Kilkenny,
'Gainst Galway and Dublin, 'gainst Wexford and Clare. 'Gainst Waterford, Limerick and all other counties,
Our hero was foremost, he never showed fear. Eight medals he now has, a record unbroken,
Of hurlers he now is surely the king.
So now all together, one last rousing chorus,
Three cheers for the maestro, the bold Christy Ring
It was great to see the role of Denis O Sullivan of Ballynoe acknowledged as the Chronicler of the Christy Ring story. With years Denis has collected memorabilia in connection with Ireland's greatest hurler and he has accumulated an absolutely brilliant archive of material. Because of the Level 5 Corona virus restrictions no public events could be held to mark the Ring Centenary but as jack Lynch said at his graveside in Cloyne in 1979 'As long as young boys feel the tingle of ash on leather and as long as hurling is played the name of Christy Ring will be remembered… and that will e forever'. A new documentary film on Christy Ring which includes colour film footage not previously seen, will be screened before the end of this year.
REELING IN THE YEARS. 1888.
On Sunday September the 2nd 1888 the final of the Glenville Tournament was played in a field provided by Mr Cuffe.. The two teams in the hurling final were St Marys from Cork City and Bartlemy. On the Cork Examiner report of the game the following Wednesday the official name team given was 'Bartlemy League of The Cross No 1' as opposed the Bartlemy 2nds team and the third side the Bartlemy Holy Terrors.
