Junior Hurlers Out..
To be unbeaten in a Championship and yet be out of the Competition is a strange one. That's the fate of our Junior C Hurling team after playing a drawn game last Saturday. It was double disappointment for our Juniors at the weekend with the Junior B side missing out on a semi final spot by a margin of 4 points. The Under 16 footballers had a good win. in their League. The under 14 hurlers are in their League Final. The Under 15 hurlers had a good game in the Holy Ground. Meanwhile work continues apace on Grounds Development Work The Lotto Jackpot of €20,000 was not won on Tuesday September 15th.
REBEL OG UNDER 16 FOOTBALL.
We travelled to Fermoy's main pitch last Saturday with a throw in at 12 noon. It was an extremely warm day for football , more like July than Mid September.We had a good start and lead by 1-3 to 0 -1 at the first water break. Fermoy came into the game more and both sides swapped scores right through the half with Rovers getting the opening goal and had a lead of 1-8 to 6 points by half time. The second half was a tougher half and good running football was played by both sides. Fermoy got a run on us scoring 1-3 and missed a penalty. However our Rovers boys never stopped and fought hard for every ball and scored 2-1 in the second half to win on a score line of 3-9 to 1-9

EAST CORK JUNIOR C HURLING SEMI FINAL
Bride Rovers 4-10 Carrignavar 1-19.
We went to Felix Sarsfield Memorial Park on Saturday evening for the semi final of the Junior C championship. Ourselves and Carrignavar had both beaten Lisgoold.. Carrig beat them by 10 points and we won the Lisgoold game by seven. A win for either team would secure a place in the final. We got a great start with a goal; from Daniel Lane. With Dave Burke unerring from frees and Sean Ryan adding a second goal we were well in control and 2 8 to 0 6 ahead by the 29th minute. We also hit six wides so we could have been even further ahead. Carrig had the last 2 points of the half to leave it 2 8 to 0 8 at the break. Playing against the fall of ground we were on he back foot early in the second half. A Dave Burke put us 5 points ahead again in the 11th minute, 3 9 to 0 13. Carrig then took over and scored 1 4 without reply to lead by 1 17 to 3 9. a Dave Burke point brought it back to a single point game. Carrig added two more to lead by three deep into extra time. We hit three wides but then Sean Ryan hit a brilliant goal to level the scores Bride Rovers 4 10 Carrignavar 1 19. Unfortunately scoring difference cost us a place in the East Cork Final. Well done to all the lads who played v Lisgoold and Carrignavar and to Shane, Brian and Frank for their work with this team. UNDER 15 HURLING.
On Sunday afternoon we travelled to Pairc Ui Chanaill in Cobh to take on the home side in a Hurling challenge game. Both teams are without a league or championship to take part in this year because of the way Rebel Og rearranged the competition calendar. Both teams originally were to meet in the Under15 Premier2 league before the Covid hit.
On a glorious sunny afternoon. The teams lined with referee PJ Aherne. We scored some great scores in the first half with some great passing and nice team work. At half time we led by 10 points to 5. You could see in the second half that lack of match practice came into evidence for both teams as lads started to tire. In a good hard game we held out to win 1-15 to 2-11.Hopefully we will get more challenge games for the boys.

EAST CORK JUNIOR B GRADE HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
On a sun-splashed afternoon we travelled to Carrignavar on Sunday to take on Erins Own in the Quarter Final of the Championship. We had drawn with Killeagh and defeated Russell Rovers whereas Erins Own had played a drawn game v Aghada and received two walk overs. Three early points from Stephen Pratt, Jesse O Keeffe and Shaunie Know from a 65 had us 0 3 to 0 2 ahead after 6 minutes. Shaunie 0 3, Stephen Pratt 0 2 Thomas Macak and Jordan Mannix 0 1 each, added to our first half total and left it 2 9 to 0 10 at the break. We should have been closer but wayward shooting saw us hit eight first half wides. WE were awarded two penalties in the second half but both were saved. Erins Own really got on top in the third quarter and led by 3 11 to 0 12 at the second water break. In fairness to our lads they threw everything at it in the last quarter. Goals from Jesse and Shaunie brought us right into the game but we missed a few handy chances. In the end we lost out by 4 points 3 13 to 2 12 in what was a very disappointing result. We had great hopes of this team this year but losing out to Erins Own third team was tough. Thanks to each and every player and to Alan and Damien for all the work put in during this strange season. PLAYERS.
We've played nine adult hurling championship games this year 4 Senior, 3 in Junior C and two at Junior B and a total of sixty players have played in these games. Thanks to each and every one for the commitment shown under difficult circumstances. Our attention now turns to the County Premier Under 21 Hurling Championship which is due to commence in October.
UNDER 14 HURLERS IN LEAGUE FINAL.
Our under 14 hurling team playing in Rebel Og North Division 2 League completed their League programme on Monday week last with an away game too Clyda Rovers in Mourneabbey. This was tough and tight game. Clyda led by a single point, 1 5 to 1 4, at half time . Our lads tore into the contest in the second half but the home team held out to win by three points, 3 9 to 1 12. Bride Rovers team :- Sean Madden, Cameron Swalbe O Sullivan, Luke Harrington, Ben Knox, Gearóid Gubbins, Jack Keating, Oran Kielty, Cillian O Sullivan, Jack Hynes, Jack Collins, Cormac Barry, Gearóid O'Connell, Conor O'Riordan, Ronan Barry, Tomas O'Riordan, Thomas Hackett, Darragh Delaney, Adam Cronin, Adam Kelleher, Sean Dowling, Shane Prendergast. We have qualified for the league Final in this competition. We finished level on points with Ballygiblin but because we had beaten Ballygiblin in the 'head to head' game we go to the Final and Ballygiblin to the Plate Final.. The League Final if against unbeaten Millstreet is fixed for Saturday week October 3rd at 2 0 clock in Castletownroche.

All in Bride Rovers GAA Club extend best wishes for a speedy recovery to Tadhg O Donovan of Kilbrien. Tadhg was a great footballer with Bride Rovers and was on the Tom Kearney- captained team that won the East Cork Junior B Grade title in 1981. Tadhg is hospitalised at present and we wish him a speedy recovery.
WORK IN GROUNDS.
Well the grass seeds have been set on the new Juvenile Pitch and we await the first green shoots to appear shortly. Meanwhile a major clean up and tidy up is ongoing. The amount of work done in the grounds in the last twelve months is phenomenal. The Juvenile pitch has been levelled and planted,. The new seating and terracing and surrounding perimeter pitch have all been installed. The toilets have been tiled and work is ongoing on the new kitchen/meeting room. All this work has cost a considerable sum and for this w must thank each and every one who has joined our Club 100 in recent years and also those who support the Weekly Lotto. Five years ago if we decided to spend over €500,000 on Club Development many would have said it couldn't be done but it has been completed. We cannot rest on our laurels because with ever increasing numbers playing hurling and football better and new facilities will be needed. BON VOYAGE FR. FACHTNA.
On Monday of this week Fr Facthna O Driscoll left Ireland to work in the mission Fields in Liberia. Facthna has been Head Provincial of the SMA Order and was based in Rome for a number of years. Now after over 30 years 'out of Africa' Fachtna returns to work with the Liberian people , his first assignment in this country. A brilliant hurler with our Club for years Facthna was on the B Grade team captained by Pat O Connor that won the Junior B Championship back in 1975. Along with his brother Gussie, Facthna won Fitzgibbon Cup medals with Maynooth. We wish him well in his new post.

Good luck also to St Catherines who meet Russell Rovers in the IHC semi final. Also we extend best wishes to Castlelyons who will face Blarney in the Premier Intermediate County Hurling Final.
UNDER 10's IN ACTION.
The under 10's played a hurling challenge away to Watergrasshill on Saturday 12th. Because of the pandemic it was their first game of the year. The opposition were very good but a great performance by all our boys with plenty to work on. Imagine these are potentially the Minors of 2028! Our next game is a football challenge at home on this coming Saturday September the 26th at 10 vs Erins Own. A reminder to all parents of boys born in 2009 and 2010, we welcome all new players to enjoy and learn the skills of hurling and football so please bring the boys along. We can't guarantee they'll play with Cork but we can be certain they'll enjoy playing with Bride Rovers.
