U16 Camogie and Football:
On 15th August, the u16 camogie team played their first round of the championship (which is being run on a league basis) away to Dungourney. This was always going to be a tough match, and Bride Rovers had only sixteen players on the day. Midway through the first half, Katelyn sustained a leg injury and was replaced by Clara. Both teams battled hard and it was almost score for score up to the final quarter of ordinary time. Then Sarah came off with a hand injury and Bride Rovers were down to fourteen players against Dungourney's fifteen. The home side pulled away by two points with just a few minutes left but Rovers fought back to secure a draw at the full-time whistle.
As this was championship, extra time was played which again saw Rovers pitted against fifteen. It was a gruelling twenty minutes and the girls put in tremendous effort and showed great spirit and determination to secure a one-goal win.
Next out were the u16 footballers on the 24th August away to Inch on a wet and dreary evening. Bride Rovers put on a great display of football and fitness and although Inch came within two points of them at the half time whistle, Rovers ran out comfortable winners in the end.
On Sunday evening, it was the turn of the camogie girls again when they lined out at home against St. Catherine's in the second round of the championship. St. Catherine's secured an early goal which Rovers promptly answered with three successive points. After a close start, the visiting team pulled away and were leading by eight points at the half time whistle. They came out equally strong in the second half and were leading by eleven points with ten minutes to go. Again, showing their great battling spirit, Rovers fought back valiantly to come within three points of St. Catherines but were unable to find the net in the dying minutes to secure a draw. St. Catherine's were the ultimate winners on a scoreline of 2-15 to 2-12.
Next up for the u16s is football away to Youghal on a date to be fixed and camogie away to Castlelyons on September 13th.

Senior Ladies Football Championship:
Our Senior Ladies Footballers lost to St Val`s last Friday night in Rathcormac in disappointing fashion. Unfortunately, we never got into our stride on the night and only for a stunning series of saves, including a penalty, from Sarah in goal, we could easily have been 10 points down in the first quarter. Some poor shot selection from St Val`s and a well taken penalty kick from Katie, incredibly had us ahead at half time, against the run of play.
In the second half, we had no answer to the strong running and support play of St Val`s. Only for outstanding displays by Laura Quirke and Eleanor Aherne, we would have been further behind at the final whistle. We did play some good football at times but not near enough and the result was a fair one. We lost by 5 points but we know that on our day we are as good as most teams in the Senior championship but we just aren`t consistent enough. In fact, when you look at the result in the other 3 senior A and B semi-finals, ours was by far the best result of the weekend with other teams shipping huge losses in their respective games. Small consolation though!
That said, we are a very young panel and there is great potential in this group of players. Leah Hallihan, Lily Murray and Ava Barry are all U16 and have contributed hugely this year. Aoife Hurley is also a great addition to our club. We have a great blend of experience and youth in this group but the challenge going forward is to blend this and maximise our potential. There will be a senior league later in the Autumn and we intend to enter that. The closed season will be vital as we look to put in the correct structures and supports for this group to realise their undoubted potential. Two months back, we didn`t think we would be playing any games, so it is great that we got to play any games this season. The focus now switches to Camogie where we will be playing Castlelyons in the County Semi-final in the coming weeks.
