Senior Ladies Football Championship vs Kinsale:

Our Senior Ladies football team came away from Kinsale last Saturday night with a disappointing 7 point loss. Hopes were high after a great result against St Vals two weeks previously. We needed to be within 4 points of Kinsale on the night to qualify for a senior A quarter final but unfortunately we lost the game by 7 points.

We actually started the game quite well but missed two good goal chances in the first five minutes. Kinsale then went on a scoring spree, and quickly went 5 points ahead. We worked hard for the rest of the first half but went in at half time trailing by 2-08 to 1-04. We played quite well for most of the second half and did bring the score back to within the required 4 point deficit but we had no answer to Kinsale`s scoring power on the night and when we got our goal, Kinsale responded within a minute with a goal of their own.The senior panel is a young one with great potential over the next few years. Young players like Lily Murray and Ava Barry played in only their second senior game and showed that they are serious players for the future. And we also have a new signing in Aoife Hurley, who plays camogie for St Catherine`s, and she also had a fine match in only her second competitive game for the club.

On the night we made too many mistakes and these were punished severely by Kinsale, but our fitness, team work and work ethic were good, so now we will play Fermoy in the quarter final of the senior B county championship, which we won last year, and are determined to defend doggedly this year. Well done ladies and lets drive on now with a full focus on this next game against our fierce rivals and near neighbours Fermoy. Date TBC (Weekend of August 22nd).

Team: Sarah Murphy, Chloe Murphy, Laura Quirke, Eleanor Ahern (capt) , Emma Roche, Jennifer Barry, Trish O Sullivan, Mary Hazelwood, Lily Murray, Aoife Hurley (0-!1), Leah Hallihan, Ava Barry, Grace Kearney(1-0), Katie Quirke (0-7), Grace Culloty (1-1). Subs Shauna Hayes for Chloe Murphy. Caoimhe Hazelwood for Ava Barry.

U10 Camogie:

On Saturday last an internal camogie blitz was organised between the U8, U10 & U12 camogie groups. The main reason for the collaboration was that there were many families enjoying holidays before school hopefully restarts.
We managed to put together 8 teams during the week with some parents volunteering for goalkeeping duty.
Some great skills were on show by the girls....the goalkeeping parents not so much!!!
Many thanks to all who participated...some of the height differences between some of the girls might have been readily apparent but the competitive nature in the smaller girls was brilliant to see. Many thanks to some of the older girls for the fun that they encouraged with the younger girls.
Overall a great mornings work. Camogie training for U8s, U10s & U12s continue each Monday night at 6:30.
U16 Camogie and Football:
Bride Rovers U16s started their season with a football friendly away to Rockban on 22nd July. This was a tough, competitive battle and both teams fought hard for every ball at all positions. Rovers were the ultimate winners at the final whistle by a strong margin which didn't really reflect the tight nature of the game. Next up, Rovers played a camogie friendly away to St. Catherines. Again, this was a tough challenge against a strong team but the girls ran out winners after a spirited and hard-fought game against the home side. Our first competitive football game in the East Cork League had Bride Rovers pitched away to Aghada and this was always going to be a tough task. Unfortunately, Rovers were out-paced and out-manoeuvred by a strong and clinical Aghada and the home team won that match decisively. On 5th August, the camogie team lined out in a friendly against our neighbours, Castlelyons, and this proved to be a good and entertaining challenge. Again, Rovers put in a strong performance but it wasn't enough to defeat Castlelyons on the night. Both teams will meet again in the championship on 13th September and that should prove to be a good game. Our latest football game was the second round of the East Cork League at home to our other neighbours, Fermoy. This was a very close-run battle where Rovers were leading by six points at half time. As expected, Fermoy came out strong in the second half and took the lead by three points with fifteen minutes to go. Fair play to the home side, they kept their composure, clawed back some scores and won by the narrowest of margins 3.15 to 5.08.A mixed season so far but plenty more to play. Well done to all the girls who have put in so much effort at training and always give one hundred per cent in games. Thanks also to the u14 players who have stepped up to support the panel in both codes. Our next camogie game is on Saturday 15th away to Dungourney, and our next football match is Monday 24th away to Inch. Best of luck, girls.

Junior Ladies Championship:

We travelled down to Aughaville last Sunday to face Tadhg MacCarthaighs in Junior C championship. Unfortunately, we came up against a very good experienced side which proved too strong for us on the day. Our young team can take a lot of positives from the game however, as their attitude, commitment and work rate were great as always. Our kickouts, ball carrying and passing interplay were also very good. And we created some very good scores too during the game. Well done to all on the day and best wishes for the games ahead.

Team: Ellen Diggin, Abbie Keating, Chloe Moloney, Alice Murray, Caoimhe Kielty, Emma Barry, Carol Kingston, Elaine Culloty, Alanna Broderick, Siobhan O'Sullivan, Ava Hallahan, Caoimhe Barry, Sarah Barry, Ciara O'Flynn.
