Draw with Na Piarsaigh..
On Sunday afternoon last we played our second game in the Red FM County HL Division 1. We were at home to Na Piarsaigh on a raw March afternoon.
With wind and squally showers it was very difficult for the players on both sides. The city side were ahead 6 point to 3 towards the end of the first half but got a goal coming up to the short whistle. It was literally 'the game of two halves' as with the wind we got on top in the second half. Point by point we came back into the match. Still down a point after 63 minutes Cian O Connor levelled the game at Bride Rovers 0 12 Na Piarsaigh 1 9. Panel; C. Hogan, M. Quinn. E. Roche, S O Connor, T.O Sullivan, D. Dooley, S. Walsh, C. UNDER 13 F v Aghada.
We played against a very, very strong strong wind in first half and could have registered a point or two but we didn't make our passes count and kicked the ball which gave it straight back to the opposition. The wind pulled two shots we had on target wide and we were 1-5 down with 1 minute to go in the first half but conceded a goal which made the task more difficult in the second half. We started the second half well even though the rain started. We had the wind at our backs but we started passing too often and too close instead of kicking ball in. But even when we did kick it in they had a full back that was able to pluck any high wall out of the sky, he'd easily be mistakes for an u16 player so it made our job more difficult. We eventually managed a point after putting numerous frees and shots wide.Aghada did in the second half what we should have done in the first half and passed their way up the field and bagged 2 more goals and a few points. Our boys were well beaten by a better team who knew how to play in the conditions, cold wet and dejected we left the field and headed to the dressing room. It's only March and these lads will have great days yet Final score Bride Rovers 0-1 Aghada 4-7. The under 13 hurlers have a challenge v BlarneY arranged for Sunday morning in Pynes, weather permitting, at 11 am.
