Under 21 Footballers Win.
Bride Rovers U21 B footballers travelled to Cobh on Friday evening last for the second game in the round robin section of the East Cork Championship for a meeting with the host side in what was a repeat of last year’s U21 C final. On that occasion we were successful and on the lads were well aware of the ability of this Cobh side. The game was played under lights on a dry, cold night. The first half was played at a frantic pace with end to end football in testing underfoot conditions. There was nothing to choose between the sides after twenty minutes with both sides have kicked three points however it was in the final ten minutes before the break that the Rovers lads kicked on and started to dominate the contest. Goals from Shane O’ Flynn and Brian Roche giving the lads a half time lead of 2-04 to 0-05 points. The second half was to be a similar story with Rovers dominating the early exchanges taking a lead of 2-07 to 0-05 with 10 minutes remaining, however the never say die attitude of the Cobh lads resulted in a tense closing to the game with Cobh scoring two late goals. The final result saw the Rovers win this one on a score line of 2-09 to 2-07. This result leaves the lads waiting on the result of the final group game between Cobh and Castlemartyr to see if they will automatically progress to the final having being undefeated in this year’s championship. We are now on three points and Castlemartyr are on one with Cobh on none.
The team on Friday night was Ben Hogan, Oisin Roche, Patrick O’Flynn, John O’Sullivan, Matthew Quinn, Eoin Roche, Tom Murray (C), Conleith Ryan, Cian Hogan, Conor Barry, Kieran Kearney, Jordan Mannix, Shane O’ Flynn, Brian Roche, Seamus Ahern, John Buckley, Tomas Macak and Edmund Cashman.
Senior Game off.
