Best of Luck Barry...

This week we bid farewell to one of the best players to ever to wear the Green, White and Green of Bride Rovers and the Red and White of Cork. While we are bidding goodbye to Barry Johnson as a Rovers player he will always be spoken of as one of our greatest ever hurlers. For over twenty five years Barry has given sterling service to our Club. Our Club History ‘Bride Rovers Abu’ was published in 1999 and as the song says ‘Twenty One Years is A Mighty Long Time’ so the next edition is now overdue. When it gets written the name of Barry Johnson will feature prominently on many, many pages. Yes Barry was a class act for decades and on many occasions, nearly single handedly, he saved us from defeat. His free-taking and scoring ability from play meant he was special talent. With Kildare, Tipperary, Kildorrery and Bartlemy roots Barry gave everything to the Rovers cause every time he donned the jersey. He was and is a true role model for all younger players. Though still a prominent player with us in recent years he also gave his time selflessly as a coach, trainer and selector with great success. Barry and his family are now resident in Ballyhooley and so for 2020 it’s the Blue and Gold jersey he will don. His late, great grandmother Ciss Johnson, nee Shelley, was a proud Tipperary woman and her wish that Barry would wear the Premier County colours will shortly come to pass. On behalf of everyone in Bride Rovers GAA Club we wish Barry all the very best in this latest phase of his playing career. Barry, you have friends for life in your native parish and I’m certain you’ll still be involved with the Rovers in some way or another in the future. Enjoy your hurling in the future and thanks for the memories.

Development Work.

A huge amount of development work has been taking place at Pairc na Bride in recent weeks. The land we bought from the Scannell family has been fenced off. This week major work has been completed on a new surface to our main pitch entrance. We have plans for ongoing projects this year and over the next few years. The pitch and both Astro Turf playing areas are closed until Friday February 7th. To help fund all this development activity we launched Club 100 two years ago. This scheme appeals to Bride Rovers supporters to financially back the Club by means of a monthly contribution. Three levels of contribution are available Gold, Silver and Bronze. Depending on your choice Club membership, Lotto and Cork GAA Draw membership are all on

offer. If you are already joined please consider doing so this year. You can get details and Application Forms from any Club member or Officer.

Fixtures.

We play our first game in the 2020 East Cork under 21 Football championship[ on next Saturday Feb 8th when we are at home to Castlemartyr. On Sunday we have Russell Rovers as visitors for a JFL Division 2 Game

Sports Prediction Quiz.

It’s Sports Prediction Quiz time again. This fundraiser has been a great success for the Club over the last few years. This year we have selected 21 National and International Sporting events from March til October of this year. The first event is to predict the Cheltenham Gold Cup winner and the final prediction to be made is to pick the winner of the Cork Premier Senior Football Championship. For all your predictions you are given four possible ‘winners’ or if you want to pick someone else you can select ‘Other’. Different points are allocated to each selection and whoever accumulates the most points will be the winner. Tickets priced at €10 are now on sale from Club Members. The Closing date for entries is march 9th so do join up straight away. If anyone gets the 21 predictions all correct a grand prize of €3000 is on offer. If there is no 'all-correct' entry it's the best points total. In That case we are giving prizes of €500, €200, €100  and two prizes of €50 ach. If you're not in you can't win.

The Lotto numbers drawn on Tuesday 28th of January were 2, 7, 12 & 32 and there was no jackpot winner. The winners of €30 each were James Martin, Mona Molan, Eileen Roche, Lucy Murphy, Claire & Alison c/o LAYA.
