2020 Season Opens.

East Cork JFL Division 2.

Bride Rovers Junior Footballers opened their 2020 league campaign with a home game against Midleton on Sunday morning last in Pynes field with Midleton winning on a score line of 3-05 to 0-12 points. The first half was evenly contested with Bride Rovers leading at half time by a single point. We looked to be in a strong position going into the second half but inevitably conceding three goals during the game was to be the downfall on this occasion. This was a great workout early in the year for the lads and we will hope for better fortunes as the year progresses.

The team and scorers were – Cian Hogan, Tadhg O’ Sullivan, Shane Walsh, Jack O’ Connor, Tom Murray, Ryan Prendergast, Matthew Quinn, Liam Forde (0-01), Conleith Ryan (0-01), Jordan Mannix (0-02), Kieran Kearney (0-01), Jason Mannix (0-1),Cian Hogan, Conor Barry (0-06), Tomas Macak and Jason Pratt.

Next weekend we were down to play under 21 Football but Cobh and Castlemartyr are replaying the 2019 Under 21 B Hurling Final. We were to play Cobh in the under 21 so that game goes off now. Our next JFL game is down for Sunday week February 9th at home to Russell Rovers.

Joe Browne RIP.

All in Bride Rovers were sad to hear of the death of Joe Browne of Garrylaurence, Clonmult and formerly of Rathaneague, Bartlemy. For decades Joe was a stalwart of community life in the Bartlemy area. He was deeply involved in Macra na Feirme, the Hall Committee, the Drama group, Bartlemy Point to Point Race Committee and in Bride Rovers GAA Club. Joe was a man who gave himself 100% to whatever project or association he was part of. He hurled back in the 1940's and 50's - he was a member of the team that defeated Lisgoold in the Bartlemy Carnival Tournament in 1953. AT that time a 'Carnival' medal was nearly as good as an East Cork medal.

Along with Dave Hogan and Dinny Howard Joe served as a selector when we won the East Cork Junior B Grade Hurling championship title in 1966. Joe was very proud of that win as t marked the beginning of a Golden Era for the Club. Down through the years Joe maintained his interest in the Bride Rovers Club and loved recalling the good and bad days, the victories, near misses and the fun and joy of being part of a great GAA Club. Joe was proud to have grown up in Bartlemy after a Ballyduff, Co Waterford infancy. Living in nearby Clonmult Joe kept up the bonds and friendships with all his friends and neighbours in Bartlemy. We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife Mary and family. May he rest in peace, he has run the race and fought the good fight to the last..

John Higgins RIP

The death occurred last week of John Higgins of Farrahy, Kildorrery- formerly of Mondaniel, Rathcormac. John was a lifelong Bride Rovers supporter. One of the symbols taken up to the Altar at his Funeral Mass was his copy of the 1966 All Ireland Hurling Final Programme. John attended that game supporting his first cousin, Seanie Barry. John is survived by his sons William and Colin, daughters-in-law and grandchildren.. May  he rest in peace.
