All Ireland Club Finals.

Next Saturday January 18th 2020 will be a historic day for East Cork and Cork GAA. Two neighbouring East Cork teams contest All Ireland Club Finals in Croke Park at Junior Hurling and Intermediate Hurling level. At four o clock Russell Rovers and Conahy Shamrocks meet in the Junior decider while Fr O Neills meet Tullaroan at Angelus time. It's a super Cork v Kilkenny double-header and will attract a huge crowd to GAA HQ. Back in 1992 after Clare beat Kerry in the Munster Football Championship the inimitable Marty Morrissey declared 'They're won't be a cow milked in Clare this evening' It will be the same next Saturday -and maybe even on Sunday too, as all of East Cork depart for Croke Park. The build up in Ballymacoda, Shanagarry, Ladysbridge, Ballycotton, Churchtown, Garryvoe and Knockadoon is just mighty. I haven't heard of any supporters going by plane but boats, trains, buses, limousines and cars aplenty will take thousands from the ancient barony of Imokilly to Dublin. For years it was Mossy Walsh and Gina who were the best known Champions in East Cork but now it's the hurling teams from two parishes steeped in GAA history. Our own Nevin Butler is a Conahy Shamrocks man -the club of former GAA president Nicky Brennan. Back in 2008 Nicky actually presented the All Ireland Junior Hurling  Trophy to his native club when they first won the Title. They are going for a 'double' but no doubt the Rovers will have a say in the destiny of that cup. Russell Rovers and Conahy both wear Black and Amber and both have White as their alternative strip so on Saturday it will be new colours all around. Eoghan O Sullivan, corner back on the Russell Rovers team, is grandson of Mary Egan from Caherdesert, Bartlemy. Mary is a proud Bartlemy woman and is hale and hearty and hoping for a Russell Rovers win on Saturday. John Barry, wing back for Fr. O Neills is a great, grandson of Mary Arnold who hailed from Garryantaggart in Bartlemy. She married John Barry in Ballard, Castlelyons. Their son Jamesy Barry was John's grandfather. There are links too with the Dunne and Colbert families but shure that's what the GAA is all about. Everyone in Bride Rovers extend the very best wishes to Russell Rovers and Fr. Neills on Saturday next.
