Back in Action..

After a short Christmas and New Year break the GAA season for 2020 is nearly upon us. They say there is a 'closed season' for the GAA but playing inter county hurling and football games in late December and early January is crazy. The GAA authorities bring out glossy reports about 'player burn out' but pay lip service to the contents of such reports. Then again they seem to cater more nowadays for the 3% of hurlers and footballers who are Inter- County players while the 97% are simply ignored. One way or another the 2020 season is now being planned. The first East Cork Board meeting of the year was held last night in Midleton. On Monday night next January 13th we have our first Club Executive meeting of the year. On the following night, Tuesday January 14th, the first County Board meeting of the year will be held in Pairc Ui Chaoimh. At the end of February a new GAA President will be selected to succeed John Horan. The successful candidate will be Uactharain Tofa (President Elect) for twelve months before assuming office at the GAA Annual Congress in 2021.

East Cork Double.

What a weekend it was for East Cork Club Hurling. On Saturday in Tullamore Fr O Neills beat Mayo Senior champions Tooreen by 4 points in the All Ireland Club IHC semi final. The following day in Kilmallock Russell Rovers defeated Micheal Breathnach's of Galway in the JHC semi Final. On Saturday week both Clubs will line out in Croke Park in their respective Finals. Both will have Kilkenny opposition Russell Rovers will take on Conahy Shamrocks while Fr. Neills meet famed Tullaroan. To paraphrase the words of Marty Morrisssey when Clare won the Munster Football Final 'There won't be a cow milked in East Cork' that Saturday. It promises to be a great occasion.

Lotto.

The Weekly Club Lotto last week was held on new Year's Night January the 1st. The numbers drawn were 1, 10, 12 & 30 and there was no winner. The winners of €30 each were Ellen Savage, Mike Kenny, the Finnegan family,  Paddy hYnes, Henry Hazlewood. Tickets for the Weekly Lotto cost just €2 each and can be purchased from Club members and in local business outlets. Tickets can also be purchased online at locallotto.ie

We are very grateful to each and everyone who regularly supports the Weekly Lotto as the funds raised are vital for the day to day running of the Club.
