Club notes from the PRO..
Pipped By The Barrs...
We lost the County Under 21 Final on Saturday night by a single point. In a pulsating and exciting finish we were pipped at the post by St. Finbarrs. With the game gone into the third minute of injury time the sides were level at 2 10 each and extra time looked a possibility. Then Jack Cahalane sent over a lead point for the Barrs. We had one more chance with a long free into the square. It could have ended up in the net but the St. Finbarrs defence cleared it and the final whistle went. It was a heart-breaking defeat for a great team. In the first half we looked to be in serious trouble but battled back- just as we had done in the semi final against Ballinhassig. On this occasion when we drew level we never took the lead despite a few chances to do so. When we'll look back on this final in the future I suppose we'll think it was 'one that got away' but on the other hand this was a good St Finbarrs team. Though defeated our lads can be proud of their display, not alone in the Final but all through the campaign. Having won the County A Grade Title last year the Premier 2 Title would have been the icing on the cake this year but it was not to be. Cian Hogan opened our scoring with a great point before the Barrs had a goal in the fourth minute. Points from Conor Barry 2 frees and Cian and Brian Roche had us level 1 2 to 0 5 after 12 minutes. The Barrs then scored 1 3 without reply to lead by six points 2 5 to 0 5 with five minutes left in the first half. By now our defence had settled well and team captain Shane O Connor was leading by example. Brian Roche shot a brilliant goal and we were right back in the game. In fact during the final few minutes of the half we had three wide in a row- we could easily have been level at the break. Instead we were 2 5 to 1 5 in arrears which was a great position to be in. In fairness to both teams they played great hurling despite a heavy rain and freezing conditions. We tore into the game from the restart. Super scores from Conleith Ryan and Conor Barry -a shot that just flew over the bar, brought us to within a point of the Barrs and we seemed well on top. Unfortunately the Barrs got the next two points to restore their three point lead with nine minutes gone. They went four up in the tenth minute. A long ball from Ben Hogan was collected by Shane and he an through the Barrs defence before giving to Conleith who struck a great goal. Now there was only a single point in it and our supporters were in full voice. From a free Paddy O Flynn levelled the scoring at 2.8 each. From a free the Barrs took the lead before Cian Hogan levelled again with six minutes left. Three minutes later the city side were ahead once more from a placed ball. Four minutes of added time were announced. One of these had elapsed when Conor Barry tied the game up at 2 10 each. Cahalane gave St Finbarrs the lead. We had the last attack of the game but the sliotar was cleared and our dreams shattered. It was a very, very tough defeat after a great display. From Ben in goal right through the team all our lads gave of their very best on the night. Though we didn't play our first game in this championship til October the panel and management put in a massive effort all year. Sport is brilliant but can be cruel also. These lads have given us massive enjoyment at under 16, Minor and under 21 over the last three years and will do so again in the future. Thanks for the effort and to Alan, Pat, Fergus and all the squad we say a huge thanks for the displays. These young hurlers are a credit to the green, white and gold. Last Saturday night was hard for ye but keep it going lads.

Happy Christmas.
This is the last 'edition' of the Bride Rovers Notes for 2019. On behalf of myself and all the Club Officers may I wish everyone a very Happy, Holy and peaceful Christmas and a great New Year of 2020. Gaelic games are such an important part of all our lives and we are so lucky in our parish to have a great Club, Bride Rovers. It never ceases to amaze me how the players, members, supporters, sponsors - indeed the entire community, support our Club. In recent years we've seen a huge increase in the number of teams fielded by the Club as so many new families and individuals have come to live here. We welcome them all and thank them for getting involved with Bride Rovers. May this Christmas Season be a time of joy and happiness for everyone, young and old.
