Minor Ladies Heartbreak...
Our minor Ladies footballers came close to winning the Minor B county title in the final last Sunday against Eire Og. This was a fantastic game of football between two very committed and evenly matched teams playing a very high standard of football. The action was end to end throughout the whole game.
We started tentatively but quickly grew into the pace of the game. Some great defending and attacking had us neck in neck with Eire Og, who were the favourites in this game. No one told that to our girls and they played some fabulous football throughout the hour. Unfortunately, we lost the toss for venue and it was a home game for Eire Og. A few key decisions went against us in both halves and the outcome could have been much different only for these. Sarah in goal was well supported by her backline of Talitha, Caoimhe O Sullivan, Abbey, Chloe, Rebecca and Caoimhe Kielty. In midfield, Sally and Aine left everything on the pitch in what was their last football game for Bride Rovers as they now return to play adult football for their own club, Kildorrery. These girls gave their all in a Rovers shirt for the few years that we had them underage and contributed massively in every game. We wish them all the best in the adult grade. They are, of course, registered camogie players with the club so we haven`t seen the last of them by a long shot. Thanks to both girls and their families for their contribution to the club.
Our forward line of Shauna, Katie, Fiona, Caoimhe Hazelwood, Lea and Ava worked tirelessly and this was evident when we scored 1-02 while down to 14 players for what was a very soft yellow card against us. All of our forwards took a lot of punishment from the opposition but continued right up to the final whistle. It was heartbreaking to see the girls so upset after the game but everyone in the club is so proud of you all and you should be so proud of yourselves. The final score was 2-11 to 1-11.A special mention also to all of the panel members with the minors this year. It was a very competitive bunch who made the management`s job of picking teams week in and week out very difficult. Thanks also to Martin James and Trina for all of your hard work this year. Girls put down a marker for senior football with their performances last Sunday and that augurs well for the club going forward. Thanks for the memories girls, and Bride Rovers Abu.
Scorers on the day were Katie Quirke 1-06, Aine Keating 0-03, Leah Hallihan 0-01, Abby Keating 0-01
