Jerard Kenny Under 11 Hurling Tournament.

 Bride Rovers hosted the annual  Jerard Kenny U11 Memorial Shield competition in Pairc na Bride on Saturday last. This year the format was two semi finals and a final with 4 teams taking part: Castlelyons, Fermoy and Ballyduff Upper along with the home team.  Some very competitive games were played with the Rovers’ team and Castlelyons edging out Ballyduff and Fermoy in the semi-finals.  The final was an engaging contest with both teams battling hard and displaying considerable skill throughout. It proved to be a tight contest with Bride Rovers ultimately prevailing. This concluded the Under11 season for the Bride Rovers boys.  The score in the final was Bride Rovers   1-6 Castlelyons 1-3. Thanks to Mike and Margaret Kenny for their ongoing support for this event. Jerard was a great young hurler with Bride Rovers and starred on the Under 12 team that won the County Championship in 2000. Jerard died in a tragic accident in September 2001. Our winning panel wa Adam Murphy Fitzgibbon, Brian Murphy, Denis Fitzgerald, Darragh O’Farrell, David Dixon, Éanna Lyons, Eoghan Buckley, Gary Quirke, Jack Lynch, James Finn, James Larkin, Jamie Walsh, Matthew Kenny, Matthew O Sullivan, Michael Gubbins, Michael Cosgrove, Owen Ryan and Shane O’Dowd.  Thanks to everyone who helped out on the day.

 REBEL OG UNDER 15 FOOTBALL.

We play Midleton in the U15 Premier 2 A football challenge cup semi final on this Saturday coming October 19th at 4pm in main pitch in Rathcormac

Under 14 Premier 2 Challenge Cup Final.

"Veni, Vidi, Veci" ( I came, I saw, I conquered) declared Julius Caesar to the Roman senate in 47 BC, it seems that Bride Rovers U14's are keen students of the Roman emperor for they displayed vision and courage when needed.

Bride Rovers travelled to Delaney's GAA grounds on Saturday evening to take on Inniscarra in the Premier 2 Challenge cup final with a 4 o clock start. This was our this meeting this year in this grade with Inniscarra. In early June we met in the Feile Plate Final in Bishopstown and the Mid Cork side beat us by 2 5 to 01. A few weeks later we reversed that result when we met in the League with our lads winning by  1 6 to 0 8. So no one was in doubt about the quality of the opposition that stood between Bride Rovers and victory.

Bride Rovers won the toss and elected to take advantage of the elements for the first half.  Shortly after throw in Inniscarra changed formation to a two man full forward line with three midfielders, however our lads had the courage and belief in each other not to panic and to put faith in each other's hard work and honesty.  Soon enough that belief was being reflected as the lads began to put daylight between the teams on the score board. With some fine points we edged further ahead due to the phenomenal work rate being shown by our half backs, midfielders and half forwards.

As the teams retreated to the dressing rooms for half time the score-board read, Bride Rovers 1-06 Inniscarra 0-01, a good lead but Inniscarra would have the elements with them for the second period. The second half began much as the first, with intense struggles for possession and every Rovers player not giving an inch. As Inniscarra pressed during the second half to try gain a foothold in the match searing questions were asked of our goalkeeper and full back line, all the questions were answered and all challenges refuted. Our full forward line was working equally as hard, mining scores from any type of ball supplied from outfield. It was gripping game and our bench was sprungto add fresh impetus and drive towards the finishing line. We ensured that no goal was conceded and as the referee sounded the long whistle and called  for the sliotar, the scoreboard declared Bride Rovers the winners, reading Bride Rovers 2-11 : Inniscarra 0-07. A great win for a super bunch of young hurlers who have given us fantastic enjoyment all year. Huge thanks to all the parents and supporters who cheered and encouraged the lads, to Delaneys GAA club for the use of their well appointed grounds and commiserations to Inniscarra  Mentors & backroom team : J Pratt, P Hynes, D Dooley, W O'Riordan  W O'Leary,  M Dooley, J Barry, S Walsh, N Butler

Match Panel :, L Roche, F O'Flynn, E O'Connor, R O'Riordan, D Kielty, K Cotter, D Cashman, A Hynes, L Harrington, C O'Sullivan, C Barry, C O'Sullivan, R O'Callaghan, J Collins, B Knox, C Hogan, K Ryan, C O'Dowd, O Kielty, G Gubbins J Keating, C O'Sullivan, T O'Riordan . On Sunday night then these young hurlers gathered again in Rathcormac. On this occasion it was to form a guard of honour at  the Church for the removal of Madge Keating, Jack's grandmother who died on last Friday. Sincere sympathy to the Keating and Gowen families.

CORK COUNTY PREMIER 2 HC.

Blarney was the venue on Sunday last for our meeting with Cloughduv in the opening round of the 2019 Premier 2 Under 21 Hurling. The sides met in the 2018 u21 A final last autumn in Pairc Ui Rinn. On that occasion we won by four pints after a great game so there was huge interest in last Sunday's game with a fine crowd in attendance. Though Cloughduv had a slight breeze in their favour we started well when Seanie Knox struck a sideline over the bar. We quickly took control of the game and Cloughduv's cause wasn't helped when they had a player red-carded early on. With our defence playing superbly we started getting some great points from Conor, Brian, Kieran and Griffin and by half time we led by  0 12 to 0 2. Cloughduv started the second half in much more determined fashion. They hit three early points to narrow the gap. A great goal from Brian Roche really put daylight between the teams or so we hoped.  Then came a crucial moment of the game when the Mid Cork side were awarded a penalty. Ben Hogan made a great save to deflect the sliotar out for a 65. They pointed the 65 but preventing a goal so early was vital for us, well done Ben.  Conleith Ryan netted a superb goal after some great passing movements from our forwards. WE added a total of six points in the second half to win by 2 18 to 0 8. It was great start but we know their will be bigger challenges to come. Well done lads. All the first round losers will now have to play off so it could be two weeks before our next game. Team and subs;
