Senior Ladies footballers qualify for Senior B County final

Our senior ladies football team had a great win over our near neighbours Fermoy in the County B semi final in Ballyhooley last Sunday afternoon. We started strongly but missed 4 good scoring opportunities in the opening 10 minutes. At the 15 minutes mark, the score was 1 point to no score to Fermoy. Our backline were working very hard but our forwards were struggling to get through. But in a busy 5 minutes before half time, we capitalized on two poor Fermoy kickouts to score 2 good goals to go in leading by 2-03 to 0-04.

At the start of the second half, we allowed Fermoy back into the game and they eventually drew level half way through. We seemed to wake up then and we thundered back into the game. Some great points from Leah, Jen Barry, Michelle and Katie put us back in front. A good goal from Katie from play and a point from a free had us running out comfortable winners on a score-line of 3-10 to 1-10. Scorers on the day were Grace Kearney 1-0, Leah Hallihan 0-01, Michelle Hartnett 0-01, Jennifer Barry 0-01, Katie Quirke 2-07. Our backs won all of our kick-outs which is testament to the hard work put in by the girls and management on the training pitch and our forwards also won a good number of the Fermoy kick-outs. This was a good test for the girls as we had to work hard to get over a dogged Fermoy team. We now have a county final to look forward to against Kinsale next weekend. Please come along and support the girls.

U8 Camogie
Our u8s travelled to our neighbours Castlelyons on Saturday to take part in a camogie blitz. We travelled with 3 teams with 25 players getting game time. We played games against Ballyduff, Castlelyons, St Catherine’s, Fermoy & Dungourney. In tough conditions there was excellent camogie played by all teams. Thanks to Castlelyons for the invite and for running a fantastic blitz.
U10 GIRLS FOOTBALL

On Sunday 22nd, semi-final day had arrived and the Bride Rovers U10's ladies had home advantage after winning the league.  They were facing Fermoy and everyone knew from passed experience that this was going to be no push over.Skye Gubbins was celebrating her birthday and was Captain for the day but lost the toss and we were then playing with the wind in the 1st half.  The game was tight from the throw in and the middle of the field saw most of the ball with both defences holding strong from each others attack.Fermoy got the first point on the board 10 minutes in but it didn't dampen the Rovers spirits as they went down shortly afterwards to level things up. Half time approached and the teams went in 0-1 a piece, there was nothing to separate the sides. The second half started and it was if Fermoy had gained another player...the referee was not giving anything in the Rovers direction so it was free after free bombarded the goal but luckily most of the kicks went wide.  It wasn't long before a couple went over and then we had a fight on our hands.  True to the spirit of the girls all year, they dug deep and after and few lovely passing moves they got close enough to slot home a goal, Rovers were winning by a point.  Nails were getting bitten by the parents, family and friends who came to support the young ladies and it seemed that they were playing forever.  Fermoy never gave up and unfortunately snatched a point in the dying seconds to send the game into extra time.Extra time was much like the second half and both teams looked exhausted but it was Fermoy who started the scoring by kicking a point over the bar.  The ball was kicked back into play and the never say die attitude from the Rovers then went straight down the other end and slotted another goal home, it was 2-1 to 0-5.  The 5 minutes of extra time pasted and the teams switched sides. The middle of the park was busy again with both teams cancelling each other out but true to the form Fermoy were awarded free after free and they were trying to go for goal but the players on the goal line stood firm.  The game was looking to go in favour of Bride Rovers but a last free saw the ball go over the goalies head and now Fermoy were winning by 1 point.  The side line was getting louder, the support was unreal but it was not to be the home teams day with a last ditch kick for a point going wide from the Rovers.I would like to thank everyone who turned up to watch the ladies and gave their support and above all I would like to thank the ladies for all their hard work during the game.  Keeping our heads held high, we go into a B final on Saturday 28th at the main pitch and hope to bring home the silverware.
U12 LADIES FOOTBALL

Last Saturday our u12 girls rounded off there county campaign with a fantastic battling win against a strong St Colums team. The girls went into this game knowing that their previous performance against Ballinora was not up to the high standard that they have set for themselves since the beginning of the year so they set out to right all the wrongs from that game. In the 1st half we played with the wind and controlled the game going in at halftime leading by 7 points. The 2nd half was when the girls really dug deep and played some outstanding football making life very tough for Colums and in the end they ran out winners on a scoreline of Bride Rovers 1.11 St Colums 1.4
U14 Ladies Football Bride Rovers 7 – 7   Youghal 2 - 4

Last Sunday evening we took on Youghal in the East Cork A championship Semi Final.  After already beating them in the League final in June we knew that this would be a good tough match.  We started out well putting a couple of goals and points on the board in quick succession however Youghal being the talented team they are tagged on scores and they were back in the game at half time with just 2 points between us.  Having not played to our best ability in the first half and with some encouraging words for the management team the girls went out in the second half and played some great football racking up score after score to finish the game with a great win which has set us up for a final against Glanmire in a couple of weeks. Well done to all.

MINOR CAMOGIE

Our minor camogie team lined out last Friday evening in Rathcormac against a strong Blackrock team in the county campaign. We were under pressure from the start with Blackrock attacking in waves. We found it difficult to get hold of the ball and when we did, we gave it away numerous times. Blackrock punished us throughout the first half and we went in at half time training by 1-09 to 0-04.

We are not quite sure what the management said to the team at half time but the transformation was incredible. We started holding on to the ball and slowly we worked our way back into the game. Sally Mc Carthy was unerring from placed balls and also scored 3 goals in that second half, Shauna Hayes thundered into the game and Ciara O Flynn had a great second half, winning great ball and giving great passes which resulted in scores. We were only a point down in the last minute when Sarah Murphy got hold of the sliotar and ran at goal. She was pulled down and the referee blew for a free. But when she was falling, she managed to get the ball into the net. When the referee saw that the ball was in the net, she awarded the goal and we won by 2 points. It was a great performance in the second half and Blackrock were left stunned at the final whistle. We now face into a county semi-final in the coming weeks. Well done girls!!
