Junior Bs Exit..

Our Junior B hurling team lost out in the quarter final of the East Cork Championship on Sunday last in Killeagh. The game had a 12 noon start and resulted in a four point loss. This was a very disappointing reverse. After great championship victories over Sars and Killeagh and two good League outings against St Catherines and Cloyne hopes were high that we'd have a good run in this championship. Goals win games they say and on Sunday in Killeagh Youghal got one in each half while we raised no green flag. We relied heavily on the scoring of Conor Barr who hit 0 11 while Stephen Boyce and Stephen Pratt added a point each to give us a total of 0 13 while Youghal scored 2  10. We still have a league game  Midleton to play but it has to be played before Sunday week. We would need to win that game to qualify for the League Final. Team v Youghal; Jerome O’Driscoll, Jack Kearney, Donnacha Carr, Barry Collins, Can Hogan, Jordan Mannix, Mike Liddane, Damien Buckley, Stephen Boyce, Stephen Pratt, Brian Collins, Colm Power, Jason Mannix, Conor Barry, Shane O’Flynn.

REBEL OG UNDER 14 HURLING.

On last Wednesday Bride Rovers travelled to Togher to take on St Finbarrs in the semi final  of the U14 challenge cup, Bride Rovers won the toss and elected to play the first half with both the breeze and the setting sun behind them, the game settled into a steady rhythm with minor scores traded and defences generally on top, however mid way through the half Bride Rovers pounced for a goal to open a little distance between the teams and as half time approached the goal count doubled and we had built a good lead to take to the dressing room.

The second half begun with our hosts throwing all they had at us, we were struck with a quick goal, and then to double the pain, another goal, all the good work from the first half was undone, and now against the elements and the clock we were chasing the lead. As time wore on we began to gain the upper hand, pairing back the lead but as the clock turned red we were still down a point, but on the 32nd minute the pressure finally told, and after the third attempt the St Finbarrs goalkeeper had to turn to retrieve the ball from his net.Another 2 minutes of injury time were played before the referee called time on proceedings and reported the final score. St Finbarrs 2-15 : Bride Rovers 3-14. We've had some mighty games with the Barrs in recent seasons at underage level and this was as good as any of them. Going to Togher to play the home side is never easy. Well done lads. REBEL OG u 12 HL.

Our under 12 hurlers played their last League group game at home to Grenagh on Friday night last. The game was played in Pynes Field.  Though short a few players due to injury we were well in contention in the first half. The visitors led by three pints at half time. In the end we lost by 3 10 to 2 4. Overall we competed reasonably well in the League. The  most important thing is that our skill levels are improving all the time.

UNDER 13 HL.

We lost to Courceys on a scoreline of  4 12 to 4 6 in the Under 13 league. Report next week.

FOOTBALLERS IN THE COUNTY,

Our Junior Football team are taking part in the County Championship this weekend. We face Inniscarra in the first round of the County on Saturday afternoon in Carrignavar. From the team that defeated Ballinacurra in the East Cork Final two weeks age we will have a few enforced changes. The Mid Cork side are also in the Semi Final of the Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship so they'll be on a high. They had a good win in the Mid Cork Final and will be tough opposition. The match is timed for 3 o clock in Carrig. Best of luck to the team and selectors. Go for it lads. We wish Frank Hogan a full and speedy recovery.

BEST OF LUCK.

Good Luck to both Russell Rovers and Carrignavar who are out in the County JAHC on Sunday.
