U12 Girls Football..

Last Friday evening our u12 girls embarked on their 1st game of the county championship with the opposition being St Mary's from the north cork division. With the county being played on a round robin format with the 2 top teams from each group progressing to the county final the girls new that a win was the most important thing on the night.St Mary's started the stronger getting the opening 2 scores of the game. As with the last few games the Briderovers girls settled in to the game and shaked off the nerves. They started to close st Mary's down faster and with some beautiful moves and passes from defence to the forward line the scores started to come. By the end of the first half Rovers had a lead of 2.5 to 1.1 

The 2nd half started much the same as the 1st had ended with the girls really turning on the style resulting in some fantastic scores to move out to a 5.09 to 2.1 lead and with 15 minutes remaining it was time for the replacements to be made showing the strenght in the panel. The girls that came on closed out the game in the same fashion as the girls that had started and Briderovers won on a scoreline of  Bride Rovers 5.12  St Mary's 4.1 Big thanks to the great support for the girls on the night and all roads lead to Ballinora this coming Friday at 7.00 for our 2nd county game.

CHURCH GATE COLLECTION

Thanks to everyone who supported our Church Gate Collection on Saturday evening and Sunday morning Masses in Rathcormac and Bartlemy last weekend. This collection is a very important fundraiser for the club. Thanks for the support.   Next fundraiser is our bag pack in Dunnes Stores, Blackpool on the 27th of and 28th of September 2019.

PASSAGE WEST BLITZ

Congrats to all  the U8's and U10's who travelled  to the annual Passage West Blitz on Saturday the 7th of September, 2019.  On a surprising sunny Saturday morning we were delighted to be once again part of the annual Passage monster Blitz. We had 14 girls ready to take on Carrigaline Tigers,Shanahoe LFC,Mallow Cats and Doora Barefield Cats. Preperation was good with plenty of chocolate and crisps taken on board before throw in. Our first game against Carrigaline Tigers was a very tough affair with very low scoring and little productive football played .Unfortunately the inexperienced referees were instructed to let the games flow but in doing so seemed afraid to blow the whistle even for the most blatant fowl .We survived the 12 minutes and went straight into a game with Shanahoe Lfc. From talking to their mentors we agreed on a less physical game and in fairness it turned out well. Both teams played some serious football with wonderful passing movements and some fabulous scores were recorded for both sides. The girls had an hour to kill and thoroughly enjoyed the local Dj,face painting, candyfloss an ice-creams that came at a very reasonable cost. There was a great atmosphere with the girls and parents alike and the day was passing very quickly.

Our last two games against Mallow Cats and Doora Barefield don’t really bear mentioning. Unfortunately at this point the referee was more interested in talking to a friend who had joined her on the pitch! Even after a friendly chat from at least 4 different coaches she seemed unwilling to even keep up with the play. Our girls did not lie down and played their hearts out but as the tackles were ever more suited to a Rugby pitch we found it almost impossible to play any meaningful football. I was and I believe most parents and onlookers were relieved when the games came to a conclusion and no bad injuries were sustained( I cant say when the final whistle went, because I didn’t hear it all day!). Overall it is a wonderful tournament and will be remembered for a long time for the craic, banter and laughter .Unfortunately not so much for the football.

U8 Girls

All roads lead to Passage West U8 on Saturday morning. We had 10 super players who had an amazing day start to finish. The parade started and no other team could be heard but Bride Rovers chanting “LETS GO ROVERS LETS GO!!The girls played four games against Macroom, Mallow Cats , Dromtarriffe and St. Senana’s.They dug deep and supported each other and won all four games due to their phenomenal work ethic!!The Cork Minor team gave them a surprise visit to which there was huge excitement.At the end of the day all the girls received a lovely medal to their delight.A big thank you to Passage West for a wonderful day we will be back again next year.Thank you to all our supporters and coaches for making this a special day for the girls.
