Our Junior Footballers had a splendid win on Friday night in the Michael O'Connor Motor factors sponsored East Cork Final. Played in ideal conditions at the Jamsey Kelleher Memorial Park in Dungourney our young team faced Ballinacurra with Killeagh's Arthur Murphy on the whistle.
Off to a great start with a brace of points from William Finnegan and Conleith Ryan before Conleith then hit the back of the net 1.3 to 0.1 after 5 minutes.Ballinacurra stung by our great opening clawed they way back, adding the next 6 points without reply from us, to lead coming to the end of the opening 30 minutes.However points from Paddy O'Flynn and Shane Walsh levelled it up at the short whistle 1.5 to 0.8
A Shane O Connor point opened the scoring in the second half but Ballinacurra added two ,before William Finnegan slotted over another 1.7 to 0.10 on 40 minutes.Ballinacurra added another minor before they hit the back of the net to take a significant four point lead 1.11 to 1.7 on 42 minutes .Conor Barry and Eoin Roche traded points with Ballinacurra leaving 4 between the teams on 47 minutes.We scored the next four points, a pair of frees from Conor Barry and another long distance one from Cian Hogan and substitute Eoin Roche added one from play 1.13 each on 53 minutes and a real contest now for title.
Ballinacurra went one up but Conor Barry pulled it back again with a wonderful point ,all square after 57 minutes.The Rovers spirit as our club song claims came to the fore though,with William Finnegan Tom Murray and another from Conor Barry saw off the stiff challenge of Ballinacurra to claim the Michael Boig Coleman cup,the silver symbol of supremacy in East Cork Junior B Football for 2019.East Cork Chairman Donal O Keeffe presented to the cup to Liam Forde amid great scenes of jubilation from our young team. County rounds beckon where the Muskerry winners will be our opponents
