Football Final friday Night..

On tomorrow Friday September the 6th we contest the 2019 East Cork Junior B Grade Football Championship Final. This is our second year in a row in this final, we lost to Russell Rovers in last years decider in Ballinacurra. On Friday night it's Ballinacurra we face in the Final. Winners of the Open County Junior B  Grade County competition in 2018 we've already lost to 'the Village' in this years competition. Just 6 teams entered in the JBFC this year, ourselves, Ballinacurra, Glenville, Fr O Neills, Aghada and Glanmire. Played on a Round Robin basis there were two groups of 3 teams. We defeated Fr O Neills and lost to Ballinacurra in our group, these games were played on May 14th and July 2nd. This meant we were in the semi-final v Glenville. We played this game on July 26th and won by 17 points to 12 while Ballinacurra overcame Aghada by 2 14 to 1 13. We've had some great games over the years with Ballinacurra in football. As they fielded no hurling team this year their sole concentration has been on Football whereas we have only come back the  'big ball' with the last two weeks. Our under 21's won the East Cork title earlier this season so it shows we have plenty great footballers in the Club. We had two football matches in the last week. On Thursday we played Grange in Pynes D On Saturday next we've been invited to Killeagh to play an U10 hurling tournament. All clubs participating will have 2 teams each so there will be plenty of game time for all.  In the group stages we are grouped with James Stephens of Kilkenny, Kinsale and Carrigtwohill. Training continues each Wednesday at 6:30.We had two football games in the last week. On Thursday we played Grange in Pynes Field in a challenge game and on Monday we had a Division 2 JFL game under lights in Aghada. The East Cork Final is fixed for Dungourney at 6.45 on Friday night. Best of luck lads, go for it.

BUSY REFEREES!

On Saturday evening last our three Club Refs were all on County Championship action. Closest to home was Mark Murphy who was in Pairc na Bride officiating at the Mayfield v Kildorrery game in the County IHC which the Seandun side won. Down in Charlie Hurley park in Bandon James Bermingham was in charge of the 'local derby' SFC tie between Newcestown and Valley Rovers -a close encounter won by Newcestown. In Glantane Pa O Driscoll was in charge of the Mallow v St Nicholas game in the SFC, a contest won easily by Mallow. Speaking of referees congrats to Conor Lane who has been appointed to do the Kerry v Dublin replay on Saturday week September 14th. Our own Raymond Hegarty usually does Umpire with Conor so hopefully 'twill be another great game. Raymond's brother Noel Hegarty and family were home on holidays from Canada last week. Noel was a mighty hurler with the Club and was on the County Winning Minor team in 1992. Well if Mayfield are beaten by Eire Og in the next round of the IHC it will set up a unique situation. If it's Eire Og v St Catherines, well there will be a lot at stake on the field and on the line as the Mid Cork side are trained by former St Catherines player Ian O Connell!

Inter County Under Age Tournaments.

Cork under 15 and under 126 hurling teams were in Tournament action last weekend and glad to report Bride Rovers were well represented on both panels. In Nenagh and Boherlahan Cork won both the A and C competitions at under 15 level defeating Galway and Waterford in the two finals. Involved in both panels were Adam Walsh, Cillian Tobin, Conor Hazelwood and David Barry. In Mallow the Cork Under 16 side defeated Wexford, Limerick and Tipperary in the Final. Edmond Cashman was on the panel and Barry Hazlewood was a selector and Darren Cody the physio. Well done to all involved, it's great to see the Club players wearing the Red and White of Cork.

HECTIC MORNING ON SATURDAY.

Next Saturday September the 7th promises to be a hectic occasion in our Main Pitch with games schedules at under 7,8 and 10.The boys under 7 blitz in both hurling and football will see our own lads and teams from Midleton,  Lisgoold and Mitchelstown battle it out. At under 8 level we welcome Newtown and Kilara Gaels while in under 10 football we meet Aghada. It promises to be a feast of Gaelic Games for our younger players.

GREAT FINALS.

People often complain about Gaelic Football and it's tendency to be boring. Well on last Sunday we had two brilliant games. Firstly well done and congrats to the Cork Minor Football team on a magnificent extra-time win over Galway. Conor Corbett from Clyda Rovers was brilliant captain and well deserved Man of the Match. Well done to Tadhg O Donoghue from Carrignavar who played his part in the Final. There was also a nice St Catherines/Douglas connection with the Minor team. Truly 'twould have been awful if dean Rock kicked that free over the bar for a winner at the ends of the Senior Final as a draw was a very fair result of a super game.

WEEKLY CLUB LOTTO.

The Jackpot for last Tuesday September the 27th was €20,000. The four numbers drawn were 1, 3, 7, 22 and there was no winner.
The prizes of €30 each went to Daniel Carey, Eily Shanahan, Kieran Collins, Aoibhin & Brennie O'Driscoll and Fergal Somers. Tickets for the Lotto are just €2 each and can be bought in local businesses and from Club members. You can also buy the tickets on line at locallotto.ie. €2 is a small sum but each and every ticket sold helps the Club with day to day expenditure. We are so thankful to each and everyone who supports our Club by buying a ticket or tickets, thank you all. The Jackpot for Tuesday September the 3rd was €20,000.

JUNIOR B HURLING/ JUNIOR C HURLING.

We hope to have two games this weekend, a JHL Div 2 game v Cloyne for the B team and our second Round Robin game in the Junior C Grade Championship. Dates, times and venues had not been finalised at the time of writing.

Co Under 21 HC.

Our first round game v Cloughduv in the County P2 u21 HC has not yet been fixed. The u21 team travelled to Tallow last week to meet the Dan Shanahan St. Mary's side in a challenge. The West Waterford side won after a competitive game.

Cork SHC.

We had very mixed feelings last Saturday night when the result came through from Pairc Ui Rinn in the Co SHC. Ballyhea who defeated us in Mallow had a mighty win over Kanturk. On Monday night when the Quarter Final draws were made Ballyhea drew Carrigtwohill so Carrig or Ballyhea will be in the County Semi Final this year.

EAST CORK FINAL.

The 2019 East Cork Junior AHC Final takes place in Lisgoold on Sunday next. We wish Carrignavar all the best in their attempt to win the title for a 3rd time as they take on defending champions Russell Rovers,.

GOOD LUCK.

Good luck to the Fermoy hurlers who take on Fr O Neills in the PIHC in Ballynoe next Sunday next.
