Final defeat for Cork..

After a great campaign the wheels came off the Cork under 20 Hurlers bandwagon last Saturday evening in Limerick. A much anticipated All Ireland Final was practically over when Tipperary blitzed Cork with four goals in the opening ten minutes. In fairness to Eoin and Brian Roche they battled on and the margin was down to five points with ten minutes left. Again Tipp finished strongly to win a second All Ireland in the space of six days. To the Cork players we say thanks for some great games during the year. This was a hard defeat to take but that's sport for you.

Junior B & C teams in action

Between Championship and League we had a busy week with three games in six days. We had a win and two draws as follows;

Junior HL Div.3 Bride Rovers 5 7 Youghal 3 13

Junior C Championship Bride Rovers 0 15 Cobh 0 15.

Junior HL Div 2 Bride Rovers 4 17 St Catherines 0 9.

On Tuesday August the 20th we had Youghal as visitors in a Div 3 game.  After a  high-scoring contest we drew 5-7 to 3-13 with Youghal in a game in Rathcormac. Some very good scores and passages of play from both sides. Alan O Keeffe showed some great touches when notching 3 2, all but a point coming from play Team: Ben Hogan, Tom Murray, Damien Healy, Mark O'Connell, Oisin Roche, James Murphy, Richie Cahill, Seamus Ahern, Colm Power (1-4, 0-2 frees), Sean O'Brien, Alan O'Keeffe (3-2, 0-1 free), Craig O'Callaghan, Ciaran O'Grady, Patrick Croke (1-0), Jamie Buckley. Subs: Pa O'Driscoll Owen Murphy Brian Lahive James Barry Cian Hogan (0-1 free) Seamus O'Farrell, Shane O'Flynn.

On Sunday last in baking sunshine we travelled to Cobh to take on the home side in the first game in the Junior C Grade Hurling Championship. It's being run on a Round Robin basis, we have Cobh, Sars and Castlemartyr in our group. It was a very even game with never more than three points between the sides. Colm Power was very accurate from frees, scoring five and adding another from play. We went two points up early in the second half but the home side hit over four in a row to go ahead. In a hectic finish we got a deserved draw on a scoreline of 15 points apiece. For our third team against Cobh's second this was a great display, well done lads. Team; Ben Hogan, Mark O’Connell, Damien Healy, Oisin Roche, Jack Kearney, James Murphy,  Brian Lahive,  Jake Tobin,  Pa O’Driscoll, Colm Power (0-6, 0-5 frees),  Dave Burke (0-4), Owen Murphy (0-2), Seamus Ahern,  Alan O’Keeffe (0-2, 0-1 free),Craig O’Callaghan (0-1) Subs: Patrick Croke, Ciarán O’Grady, Cian Howard.

On Monday night under lights in Pairc Naomh Caitrionaigh in Ballynoe we met the home side in an East Cork JHL Div 2 game. St. Catherines were very understrength for this game. We led by 2 5 to 0 4 at the break and went on to win by 4 17 to 0 7. St Catherines are due to play Youghal in a Group Play off on September the 4th in the East Cork JBHC and we await the winners in the quarter final. REBEL OG UNDER 14 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

Bride Rovers U14s football championship semi final was played against Kilara Og was played in a windy Ballyhooley last Friday evening. Kilara won the toss and chose to play with elements for the first half, the game began with both teams matching scores before Kilara pounced  for two quick goals to put daylight between both teams as the referee called half time, Half time score Bride Rovers 0-03 Kilara Og 2-07. The second half began much as the first half did, with both teams toing and froing and trying to exert their influence, Bride Rovers gained the upper hand in these stakes but unfortunately for the lads, posts were stuck, great blocks made, great saves pulled off, it seemed no matter how hard the lads tried, lady luck wouldn't cast a favourable eye upon us. When the referee called proceedings to a halt it also called Bride Rovers football championship to a halt with the final score reading Bride Rovers 1-07 Kilara Og 3-08, the very best of luck to Kilara Og in the final Panel R O'Riordan, D Kielty, E O'Connor, L Harrington, B Knox, D Cashman, R O'Callaghan, A Hynes, C O'Sullivan, J Collins, C Barry, C O'Sullivan, C Hogan, L Roche, J Keating, O Kielty, T O'Riordan, G Gubbins, C O'Sullivan, K Ryan, C O'Dowd.

UNDER 9 HURLING.

Our U9's were away to Inniscarra in hurling on Saturday. We played two 8 aside games. Two very evenly matched teams played 2 highly successful games. Great display by all the lads. Our panel on Saturday was Shane, Cathal M, Cathal O'B, Fionn L, Fionn C  Liam, Bobby, Jack, Nathan, Cody, Comac, Sean F, Sam, David, Evan and Zack.

UNDER 11 HURLING.

Bride Rovers U11s had an action packed Saturday just gone, commencing with a match in Pairc Uí Chaoimh astro pitch where they faced off in hurling against Ballinhassig.  The game turned out to be extremely competitive with ebbs and flows throughout.  The team worked extremely hard and showed no little skill in eventually overcoming their determined Ballinhassig opponents. The U11s then set off as a group later that day to show support to Eoin and Brian Roche in their quest for U20 All Ireland glory in LIT Gaelic Grounds in Limerick.  While the match didn't go Cork's way the event proved a beneficial experience for the young Bride Rovers team. Hopefully in years to come some of these lads will emulate the Roche twins and wear the Red and White of Cork. Training for the boys continues on Monday and Thursday this week with our next match (football) scheduled for Monday 02 Sep away to Killavullen.

REBEL OG MFC.  Bride Rovers 3-07  Kiltha Og 2-13
Lisgoold was the venue on Monday for our minor football Championship against Kiltha Og a combination of players from Castlemartyr and Dungourney.
We were without Matthew and John through injury. Our opponents had 44 names on their team sheet.
It was a very enjoyable game of football played, hard and fair. Scores were exchanged evenly for twenty minutes with Kieran and Adam raising green flags and Paddy and Cian scoring the points At half time we were just three points down 2-7 to 2-4.
The second half was much the same as first period with Paddy and Cian doing the scoring. We tried hard to get the equaliser but it just wouldn’t happen and lost out by a margin of three points. Panel  Darragh O Sullivan Jacob Powell Oisin Roche Michael Quinlan Ciaran Crowley Ruairi O Sullivan Tomas Macek Patrick O Flynn Kieran Kearney Shaun Knox Cian Hogan Seamus Aherne Craig O Callaghan Adam Walsh Edmond Cashman Ronan O Connell Nicky Kelleher Davy Barry John Buckley Matthew Quinn
