Best of Luck Eoin & Brian..

This is a proud weekend for the Bride Rovers GAA Club as the Roche twins, Brian and Eoin are involved with the Cork under 20 Hurling team that contests the All Ireland Final on Saturday in Limerick.  Cork face Tipperary in the LIT Limerick Gaelic Grounds at 6 o clock on Saturday evening. It should be an epic encounter between these two sides. In effect it's the last part of a Hurling Trilogy spread over three seasons, 2017,'18 and '19. At Minor level in 201t when Minor was under 18 the sides drew ina  thrilling game in Semple Stadium. The replay in Pairc Ui Rinn of a Monday night was classic with Cork winning and both Brian and Eoin starred in these games. Unfortunately Cork lost the 2018 minor All Ireland Final to Galway. Last year then the sides met at under 20 level twice again. Cork got the better of Tipp in the Munster Final in Pairc Ui Chaoimh for an easy win. Then on the evening the Pope was in Dublin the sides met once more in the All Ireland Final in Limerick. Cork were caught by a late, late sucker punch in the form of a last minute Tipp goal. History repeated itself in this year's Munster Final with Jake  Morris getting a last gasp winner. In reality there's been very little between the sides over the three years. Tipp will be on a high after their Senior win last Sunday so 'twill be tough going for Cork. We wish the Roche brothers and Denis Ring and all involved the very best on Saturday evening.

Rebel Og Minor Premier 1 Hurling.

On Wednesday  last we travelled to Dungourney to take on Killeagh/Itas in the quarter final of the championship. It was always going to be a tough task and was made harder through the absence of three  of our older players for different reasons..
Killeagh took charge from the throw in. Our lads tried hard but against a very good and more physical team we found the going hard. The combination side were far, far too strong for us and won very easily by a huge margin. We kept going 'til the end which was good to see. Thanks to all our supporters who turned up on the night. Thanks to all the players for their efforts this year. Best of luck to Killeagh/Itas in the semi final.

JUNIOR B GRADE HURLING.

On Friday evening we travelled to Pairc an t-Athair Peadar UI Laoighaire in Castlelyons in the Round Robin section of the East Cork JBHC to take on Killeagh. Both ourselves and Killeagh had already defeated Sarsfields in our Group so this game was to decide who would finish first and second in the group.

We started very well in the game and quickly got on top. Conor Barry was deadly accurate from both frees and from play. A great goal from Seamie Farrell really settled us and we led by 1 14 to 0 7. Seamie repeated the performance in the second half and a third goal from Damien Buckley really wrapped up the game. Jason Mannix made a great contribution to the side and his three points were added to by similar tallies from Griffin and Damien. Cian Hogan hit a beauty and Conor ended with 12 points, 8 from frees. The backs were well marshalled by team captain Donncha Carr. This win puts us in a quarter final against a runner up in one of the other three groups. We scored 1 12 from play in the first half and 2 7 in the second half.  Overall it was a great win with 100% work-rate shown by all the players. Team; F. Hogan, J. Connor, D. Carr, Barry Collins, G. O Keeney, Jordan Mannix, Jason Mannix, C. Hogan, Brian Collins, S. O Flynn, D. Buckley, S O Farrell, C. Barry.

REBEL OG UNDER 9's.

Our Rebel Òg under 9 fixtures resumed last weekend.  We were away to Tracton for football on Saturday. Our lads played two good games . Great performance by all with some lovely team scores. Our next game is away this Saturday to Inniscarra in hurling.

UNDER 10's

The last month of the summer has been quite stop-start for our U10s with games being cancelled due to holidays and training sessions have limited numbers. Our football game v Glenville was cancelled last Saturday and will be rescheduled for the coming weeks. However things will pick up from now once school season restarts. Training continues on Wednesday nights at 6:30 and Saturdays at 10:30.

Match v Glen Rovers cancelled this Saturday.

Cul Camp thanks.

Following on from the success of our Cul Camp week we were delighted to receive some brilliant sponsorship from Cummins Sports and in particular Paul O'Keeffe. They donated sliotars, footballs and bibs which will be of massive benefit to the underage boys and girls going forward. Paul may be a Rockie at heart but slowly and surely he's converting to a Bride Rovers man!! Many thanks Paul and Cummins Sports.

UNDER 14 Hurling.

Bride Rovers under 14's finished out their hurling league campaign with a trip to Togher last Friday to take on the hosts St Finbarrs.
A good overall display throughout the match wasn't reflected at the final whistle with the scoreboard reading St Finbarrs 1-11 Bride Rovers 2-06
The lads played well with a few playing out of position, but none the less they all worked hard right to the final whistle, however lady luck refused to shine and we couldn't gain parity as time ran out. Panel F O'Flynn, O Kielty, R O'Riordan, D Kielty, K Cotter, A Hynes, E O'Connor, J Collins, C O'Sullivan, R O'Callaghan, D Cashman, J Keating, C Hogan, C O'Sullivan,  B Knox, J Hynes, T O'Riordan, G Gubbins, K Ryan, C O'Sullivan.

Under 12's in Thurles

Bride Rovers U12s Hurlers played in Semple Stadium Thurles last Thursday. The occasion was organised as part of the Munster Council's Hurling promotion
We played Sliabh Rua(Cork), Cois Bride(Waterford) & Mungret (Limerick). It was a fantastic occasion and a great day out and very well done to all the boys. Hopefully in years to come many of these lads will grace this pitch in the Red and White of Cork.

Junior C Hurling.

On Sunday next August 25th we face Cobh in the first game of the East Cork Junior C Grade HC. It's being played on a Round Robin basis again this year. It's a great achievement to field three adult Hurling teams so best of luck lads. No venue had been arranged at the time of writing.

LOTTO.

The Jackpot for Tuesday August 13th was €20,000. The four numbers drawn were 1, 12, 19 and 28 and there was no winner. The €30 winners were Cathal McGrath, Tom & Nellie Barry, Paddy O Shea, Bill Kelleher and Donncha Carr. The Jackpot on Tuesday last August 20th was €20,000.

EAST CORK S/F

On Saturday we hosted Watergrasshill v Carrignavar in the East Cork JAHC semi final. We had a fine crowd, thanks to all who helped out and congrats to Carrig who won -trained by our own Joe Delaney.

WELL DONE TIPP.

With so many Tipperary and Kilkenny people involved in our Club there was a great sense of anticipation in the area last weekend. It wasn't a classic Final but credit to Tipp on a mighty win and we'll have a lot of happy Premier County people around the place for this week anyway. Hard luck to Kilkenny but no doubt they'll be back. As I travelled back home on Sunday night I thought of the late Elizabeth Ciss Johnson. She married Cyril Johnson from Kildare and how fortunate we were that they settled in our parish. Ciss was a huge fan and her family continue to contribute so much to the life of our community.

WELL DONE CASTLETOWN.

Congrats to Castletownroche on their mighty win v Lough Rovers in the County JBHC Final in Pairc Ui Rinn on Saturday night last.
