Under 21s pipped in co semi final..

Our U21 footballers travelled to Ballinora on Monday night to take on Aghinagh in the U21 C football county semi final. Back in the spring we had a great three-game campaign in East Cork before winning the Divisional Title. We then defeated Ballycastle Gaels in the County Quarter Final in Fermoy. The lads gave a great display but unfortunately we narrowly lost out by a margin of four points.

The East Cork champions played a tough game against a spirited Aghinagh side where the scoreline read 1-6 to 1-4 to Aghinagh at the halfway mark. Our goal came from  a bullet  from Brian Roche which was the highlight of the first period.

The second half proved a stiffer test for the Rovers lads with the Aghinagh defence holding strong against the Rovers forwards. Various attempts to break down the Aghinagh defence proved unsuccessful and we ultimately lost out by four. Aghinagh now go on to the County Final

Well done to Vincent, Anthony, Batt and the u21 footballers on a hugely successful year.Team: B Hogan, J Mannix, P O’Flynn, J O’Connor, M Quinn, S O Connor, T Murray, C Hogan(0-1, 45’), G O’Keeney(0-1), B Roche(1-1), C Ryan, C Barry (0-6f), D Brown, S O’Flynn, E Roche Subs: O Roche, J O’Sullivan, S Ahern

REBEL Og PREMIER HURLING C.SHIP. Valley Rovers 2-15 Bride Rovers 1-10
Last Friday we were in P2 Championship Hurling action against the Innishannon side, Valley Rovers. The venue was Blarney on what was a lovely night for Hurling. An injury to Kieran Kearney in the pre match warm up was a big setback. It meant a complete rejig of positions for a few lads. Valleys got the first two scores of the game before Cian got our opener from a free. A lost ball in midfield led to Valleys scoring a goal. Our lads responded well and with a few minutes left to half time we were only three points behind having played against the wind. Then a killer blow, another goal followed by two quick points points. This meant instead of being reasonably close we were down by eight points. To make matters worse it was like someone just 'turned off 'the wind at half time!
In the second half we battled hard but could never get close to Valley Rovers
Sometimes u learn a lot more from a loss. The lads will re-group and face Killeagh/Itas in the quarter final on Aug 14.

JOE COLLINS RIP.

It was with deep regret that we learned of the passing last weekend of Joe Collins of Rearour, Ballinhassig. With many years Joe was a generous supporter each week of the Bride Rovers Lotto. Joe actually won the Jackpot in December 2014. He continued week, week out, winter and summer to subscribe to our Club. We tender our deepest sympathy to all of Joe's relatives and friends. Joe was buried on Wednesday last in his native parish. May he rest in peace.

We extend our best wishes to Brian and Eoin Roche and all the Cork under 20 hurling panel and mentors who take on Tipperary in Thurles in the Munster Final on Tuesday next July 23rd.

GOOD LUCK GRANGE.

We extend our best wishes to the Grange Junior B Football team who have qualified for the County Championship Final.

CORK OUT.

Well there'll be no Senior Double for Cork this year. The footballers are still there hut the hurlers went out tamely on Sunday in Croke Park. Having led by two points at the break against Kilkenny they looked in a nice position to qualify for the All Ireland Semi Final against Limerick. Unfortunately despite the best efforts of Pat Horgan there was only one team in t in the second half as Kilkenny pulled away.
