U10 Girls Ladies Football
On Thursday 27th June, the crunch game against Na Piarsaigh had come upon us. The way the results had gone this season, this was a top of the table clash and the winner should go on to win the league. It was an away game, so the girls had to be on form and with the sun beating down that afternoon, the supporters were spoilt when watching a full flowing game of football.
Brooke Noctor was the captain that day and she choose to play with the wind in the first half and attack Na Piarsaigh with everything they had. The plan worked and Bride Rovers had the majority of the ball, passing through their positions from the backs to the forwards much like they have been doing all soon. With pressure building and the ball going wide at the first few times of trying, BR finally got a point on the board and the relief on the girls faces showed. Shortly followed was a goal and then a point coming from a free just yards from goal. The ball went from one end of the pitch to the other with the ball rearly going over the bar but BR went in at half time 1-4 to 0-0 up.
The second half was going to be the real test as BR were now fighting against the wind. Changes were made at half time as BR stuck to their promise on getting all the girls on the pitch who turned up for the game. Na Piarsaigh were using the wind in their favour now and pressure started to build on BR but the good work between the backs and the midfield kept the home team back from scoring. It wasn’t long before Na Piarsaigh did get a point on the board then a few moments later saw them get the ball in the back of the net. Everyone knew it was going to be nail biting stuff from then on but the never say die attitude and hard work from the Rovers saw them pull a point back but it was not over yet. It must have been with only 5 minutes left to play, Na Piarsaigh piled on the pressure and after putting the ball wide on a few occasions, they put the ball in the back of the net leaving a point splitting the 2 teams. Thankfully the ref blew the final whistle shortly afterwards and the BR girls jumped for joy and relief showed by the parents, it finished 1-5 to 2-1.
