Tony Walsh Cup Win on Penalties!..
Before a fine crowd in Pairc na Bride last Sunday we retained the Tony Walsh in a novel fashion. The Tournament Final against Newcestown doubled up as a County Division 1 Hurling game as well, our last League game, and when it finished in a draw the destination of the Cup was decided by a penalty shoot-out. The match was a great contest with some superb hurling from both sides. We were well in control early on but the South West side took over in the second half and looked likely winners but we fought back in a spirited fashion. A goal in the first minute by Conor Barry and points from Barry Johnson(free) and Conor gave us a brilliant start. Newcestown gradually came into the contest with some fine long range points. The sides were level at 1 5 to 0 8 after twenty minutes. Then Barry gave us the lead from a free and Shane O Connor hit a mighty goal after some great team play. When Michael Collins sent over a point we were five points ahead once more. Newcestown came right back into it then and we held just a one point lead at half time, 2 7 to 0 12. Points were exchanged early in the second half before the visitors went three ahead despite playing against a strong breeze. WE drew level and a Barry Johnson free gave us the lead deep into injury time. In the 36th minute however Newcestown got a point from a free to draw the match; Final Score Bride Rovers 2 13 Newcestown 0 19. Extra time was raised to decide who would win the Cup. In the end both teams agreed to a penalty shoot out. With Seanie Knox in goals Jason Pratt, Conor Barry and Barry Johnson were our designated strikers. In a welter of excitement we won 4/3 after it had gone to 'sudden death' and Jason Pratt fittingly scored the winner.
On behalf of the Walsh family Michael Walsh presented the cup in memory of his late father Tony to Bride Rovers Captain Jason Pratt who suitably replied and called for three cheers for Newcestown. In the final analysis after a great game a draw may not be enough to see us gain a 'Top Four' spot in the Senior Hurling League. Depending on other results we may be pipped for the semi final spot. The closing date for playing the ordinary League Group games is Sunday week, July 14th. Interestingly a team-mate of Tony Walsh on the Bride Rovers team that won the East Cork Junior B Grade Hurling Championship in 1966 was Newcestown native Denis Canty. Denis was an Insurance Agent who was living in Rathcormac at the time. Denis now lives in Tramore, Co. Waterford. Thanks to those who helped with the catering arrangements on Sunday...
EAST CORK JHL Division 2.
We suffered our first loss of the Junior Div 2 league against Carraig Na Bhfear last Tuesday night. On a perfect evening for hurling we led 2:7 to 11 points at half time. Conor Barry scored 2 exceptional goals while at the other end our fullback line were excellent. Indiscipline cost us dearly in the second half and we ended up losing by 3 points. The amounts of frees we gave away was very disappointing and we will need to improve this element of our game if we are going to progress in the League and championship. We are playing Killeagh this Thursday away at 8pm. REBEL OG Under 15 PREMIER 1 Hurling League
We played Glen Rovers last Wednesday evening in the p1 hurling league. This game was played in the Glen Rovers complex in Blackpool. .With the Glen going really well in this League we knew our lads had to be tuned in for the game. We were playing against a strong wind in the first half and the home side led by 1-8 to 0 7 at half time. With the wind at our backs we pushed on in the second half. The boys hit over some mighty points from play and placed balls. We took over and ran out winners on a scoreline of 1-18 to 1-9. These boys are flying at the moment and it shows in the League Table which reads ' Bride Rovers; Played 3, Won 3' . Our next game is away to Na Piarsaigh this Friday the 5thof July at 8pm. Unfortunately Adam Walsh one of our stars was involved in an accident last week which left him with a serious foot injury. Adam will be a huge loss to our team but the lads will play for him in his absence. We all wish Adam a speedy recovery. JHL Div 3 Russell Rovers 3-14 Bride Rovers 0-15.
We travelled to Shanagarry to take on the home side in this JHL Div 3 tie. Great effort, work-rate and some lovely passages of play from the lads even though we were missing a couple of players on the night. Unfortunately we came up against a good Russell Rovers team on the night who had a number of Junior A players in their ranks. Under 11's in Kildare.
Bride Rovers U11hurlers took part in the annual Celbridge Under 11 hurling tournament last Saturday. Among the organisers for the Celbridge tournament is a former Bartlemy and Bride Rovers man Ciaran O’Donovan. In total there were sixteen teams from 8 counties in the competition. The boys were in a group with Ballyboden St Enda’s (Dublin), Cloneen (Kilkenny) and Sallins (Kildare). The matches were all exciting and tight affairs with the boys working hard throughout and producing some fine performances. The team qualified to meet a fine team from Tyrone, Naomh Columcilles in the second round and were pipped by the Tyrone team after a close-run battle. The tournament was an extremely well-run event and provided both players and coaches with memories to cherish. Training this week is on Monday and Thursday with a match against Ballycastle (not the Co. Antrim team, but the Ballyhooley/Castletownroche combination) under 11 hurlers on Saturday morning at 10.30 in Bride Rovers main pitch. Thanks to all who travelled and helped out last Saturday in Kildare.
Under 14 Hurling.
Our under 14 hurlers had two games recently in the Rebel Og League. We drew with Bandon on a scoreline of Bride Rovers 5 6 Bandon 3 12. Last Monday in a refixed game we lost to Ballincollig by 2 7 to 4 11.

WEEKLY CLUB LOTTO.
The four numbers drawn last week were12, 22, 24, 31 - there was no winner. The prizes of €30 each went to Mike Desmond, Mike O'Donovan, Cathal McGrath, Andrew Corkery, Pat O'Connor.

WELL DONE WEXFORD.
It was a brilliant occasion in Croke Park last Sunday when 51,000 spectators saw Wexford take the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship Title after an epic battle with Kilkenny. Wexford also won the Leinster Minor title so it was truly a historic day for the Model County. Amongst the happy crowd was our own Liam Parle who gave many years of service to Bride Rovers. Congrats to Liam, Wexford and the bould Davy Fitzgerald who has transformed this team.
