Cork U14 Football...
Cork 7-15 Galway 2-4
Cork claimed their first LGFA All-Ireland U14 Platinum title since 2013 at the expense of Galway in Banagher County Offaly at the weekend. Saturday the 22nd of June will be forever etched in the memory of all the supporters of Bride Rovers Ladies Football Club and especially for our fantastic quartet of players, Abbie, Ava, Ciara and Lily who wore the Cork jersey with such pride and passion. At 2.30pm in Banagher Co Offaly when the referee blew the final whistle, Cork were crowned All Ireland champions beating Galway on a scorelien of 7-15 to 2-04.
There was fantastic scenes of delight, when supporters and families got to hug and congratulate the girls on their effort and achievement on what has been a very hard and enjoyable year winning 18 matches and drawing one with no defeats. The saying “You only get out what you put in” is clearly evident in this group of players who have trained non stop twice a week for over a year, since winning the U13 Eugene Egan Memorial tournament in 2018. We must congratulate our own Allie Murray who worked behind the scenes with Louise to make sure all girls were looked after and also to Dominic Gallagher, Peter O’ Leary and their management team for giving the girls a platform to showcase their skills at the highest lever. Congratulations to our Bride Rovers girls Ava, Lily, Sarah & Abbie. Well done girls on a fantastic achievement. You have done yourselves, your families and your club proud. The time and commitment and hard work that these girls have put in to get their All Ireland Medals is second to none. Huge congratulations girls. The club is so proud of your fabulous achievement.
U10 GIRLS FOOTBALL
On Tuesday 18th June, the girls played the first of 2 games that could determine who finishes top of the league.
The visitors to Pynes pitch were the might of Glanmire which from last years results, beating us in the league and ‘A’ final so we knew this was going to be the girls first real test of the league. The game started at 100 mph with the ball going from one end of the pitch to the other but the defence from both sides were holding their own. It was Bride Rovers that struck first settling the girls nerves with a goal followed shortly afterwards by a point. Glanmire’s never say die attitude paid off and they finally got a point after several attempts. Bride Rovers stepped up another gear before half time and got another few points going in at half-time 1-4 to 0-1.The 2nd half started much like the 1st but it was Glanmire who saw more of the ball and went straight down to the Rovers goal and hit the post, from that effort everyone knew they were still in the game. The back line of the Rovers stood firm, much as what they have been doing all season and stopped wave by wave of attacks from Glanmire. All the Bride Rovers girls pulled together, from the back to the mid-field and then on to the forwards, they supported one other. Hand passing the ball through the team, playing some lovely football, Rovers scored another couple of goals and points which were well deserved. With a very tiered Rovers team who had been working their socks off, Glanmire came back towards the end of the game with a succession of points, turn it into nail biting stuff.
The game finished 3-5 to 0-5 and shot Bride Rovers up to the top of the league. The next test is an away game against Na Piarsaigh on the 27th and both teams are unbeaten at this time, so we look forward to another top of table game clash.
The support from the parents on the side line was at the highest order as usual and we hope to see much more of the same for the next game, bring the roar!!!
U12 GIRLS FOOTBALL
Last Thursday the 20th of June, 2019 on what turned out to be a beautiful evening Bride Rovers U12 girls lined out in the league semi final against Carrigtwohill.
It took the girls a bit to settle in to this game and were 1.1 to 0.1 down after 10 minutes but from here on in they really showed why they have gone unbeaten all year. Our defence were winning every ball and were pushing up helping our forwards who were turning on the style with 2 fantastic goals taking us in at half time leading 2.5 to 1.1The 2nd half was again a tough battle but with the strenght in depth that this panel has and a very warm evening our subs bench was emptied with the girls coming on doing a brilliant job to close out the game on a scoreline of Bride Rovers 2.11 to 1.3 and take the girls in to a C league final and county championship to look forward to.We'll done to each and everyone on the night
