U14 Ladies Football..

On a very warm evening last Sunday night in Dungourney  our u14  ladies footballers were crowned  East Cork B Champions, taking on a very strong  Youghal outfit who had already beaten us in the league this year. Our preparations  for the  Final were hampered by injuries and sickness within the team, knowing that we would have to be at our best to beat a fancied Youghal side, our Medical team pulled out all the stops and everybody was declared fit for the Final.  From the throw in Youghal were first to attack and  immediately  put us  under a lot of pressure , but smart defending from  our backs  and midfielders, kept the Youghal forwards at bay. We began to settle into the game and started  playing a very attractive brand of football, but unfortunately we could not turn this into scores. As the short whistle blew for half time Bride Rovers lead by  5 points to 4 points. At the interval there was nothing the management could say,   everything they had asked to do , the players  were doing. Instead of  coaches doing the  talking  at half time, it was the players who stood up and spoke on  what they needed to do to  win this Final. As the second half started  we increased the pressure on Youghal and were rewarded with some fantastic scores from our forwards and midfielders while our backs  limited   Youghal    to only 2 scores in the second half. As the final whistle blew , there was great scenes of joy bringing another cup back to the banks of the Bride. SENIOR LADIES FOOTBALL

Senior  Ladies continue their winning streak

Our senior ladies football team continued their winning streak with a 4-12 to 2-16 win over St Val`s last Sunday in Rathcormac. This was a great team display following on from last week`s impressive victory over Fermoy. This is our first win over St Val`s in the senior A league, having come close a few times in the past. Our first 10 minutes in this game was probably the best football we have played as a panel in the past 2 years. The teamwork, support play and tenacious tackling of our ladies was a joy to watch. St Val`s have contested 2 of the last 3 senior A county finals so this was a good result for Bride Rovers.

 As in the Fermoy game, our more senior players gave assured and confident performances, as would be expected. But a very encouraging feature of both games is the contribution  of some of our younger players. Rebecca Walsh, Caoimhe Hazelwood,  and  Nodhlaig McCarthy gave great performances and this is vital for a club with senior ambitions to have young players coming through the ranks and making the big step up to senior. We have 4 or five other young players chomping at the bit to make their mark with the senior team.  As in the previous week, we allowed St Val`s back into the game in the middle third of the match but we again finished strongly in the final third to clinch the victory. An impressive haul of 3-02 from the evergreen Niamh Barry played a big part in this result. Sarah Murphy also had a great day in goal and made 4 fine saves, including one from a penalty. Another good day at the office for Grace Culloty, Grace Kearney, Jennifer Barry  and Katie Quirke laid the foundation for a  memorable result. Laura Quirke at full back gave a very assured performance and it was great to see Emma Roche starting the game at half back.Impressive displays from Aoife O Riordan, Trish O Sullivan, Mary Hazelwood, Eleanor Aherne, and Elaine Culloty when introduced, completed a great team performance. Our last league  game is against Aghada, over the June weekend, at home again in Rathcormac.

U10 GIRLS FOOTBALL

On Tuesday 7th Bride Rovers hosted a physical Delaneys team.  The girls stood firm and didn't give their opponents an inch on the ball.  Weather conditions were not the best but the girls got their heads down and battled to continue their fine start to the season with a 2-7 to 0-0 win.

From the throw in, Bride Rovers put pressure on the Delaneys defense which paid off in their favour and they saw some early points on the board. By half time the Rovers had scored a goal and were 1-5 up. The 2nd half started much like the 1st even though lots of substitutes were made showing the strength in depth of the squad. We would like to thank all the parents who stood out in the cold and gave their support for the team, it was really appreciated.

Our U6 girls have commenced training on Saturday mornings at 9.15 a.m.
