U16 Girls Football..

On Saturday we met Mayfield away. Mayfield were top of the league table, so this was always going to be a difficult game. Conditions were ideal for football. We started very strongly with the girls maintaining 70% possession in the first 15 minites, however we failed to convert that possession into scores. We tried for goals instead of taking the easier option of points. Then Mayfield gained the upper hand and got 2-2 in a five minute spell. Our girls responded quickly and got two goals of our own. Half time score Bride Rovers 2-7 Mayfield 2-4. Right from the start of the second half we laid siege to the Mayfield goal, and unlike the first half the girls kicked some fine points with great linkage from Lilly in midfield to the forwards. With some positional changes and substitutions things began to flow freely, our backs of Alanna, Alice and Naoise well on top, perfectly placed kick outs from Cliona made it easier for our half backs of Caoimhe K, Ava H and Niamh, to gain possession, placing some fine passes to our mid field and half forward line. Our forwards of Shauna, Caoimhe B and Ava were always in front and showing for the ball, they then turned their markers at will and when they ran into trouble there was some great supporting play from Sarah, Ciara and Kate. Caoimhe B then hit a purple pact by hitting home a well taken penalty and the she struck two wonderful goals to put us in a comfortable position with 10 minutes to go. The passing and support play for these goals was excellent. Final score 5-13 to 3-6.

U14 GIRLS FOOTBALL

Bride Rovers 2 -7  Glanmire 1 - 10

On Good Friday evening we played Glanmire in a very entertaining U14 football league match.  From the throw in Glanmire were playing the better football and lead at half time by 6 points.  In the second half the Bride rovers girls showed great determination and fought their way back into the game and eventually took the lead with 2 minutes remaining.  With the game entering full time, Glanmire got a late point to draw the game.  Fantastic match by two great teams.

Bride Rovers 5 -13 Inch 4 – 10

Easter Monday night after learning our lessons from the Glanmire match we started this game at a very high tempo and built up a good lead by half-time.  Inch made a couple of positional switches which brought them back into the game and with 5 minutes remaining it made for a very exciting finish, but we eventually held out for a six point win.  Well done to both teams on the night.

U10 GIRLS FOOTBALL

Bride Rovers   2-4   Aghada   0-1

Early  bank holiday Monday Aghada were the hosts for our first league match. A panel of 22 turned up in the glorious sunshine determined to start the campaign with a win.

Bride Rovers started at a blistering pace and dominated possession creating chance after chance in the opening 10 minutes. With Aghada  insisting on the smaller U10 goals it was initially difficult to get the eye in but after 20 minutes we had acquired  1 – 4 with excellent scores from 20/25 yards and an unbelievable 40 strike. Our midfield, half forwards and half backs were completely in control and Aghada struggled to get out of their own half for long periods.

The second half was much more the same despite multiple changes in positions and substitutions and playing against and increasing wind. This is a testament to the strength of the panel and the effort the ladies put in.

Aghada rallied as best they could but our defence stood rock solid restricting them to a solitary point over 40 minutes. We added another goal with a few minutes to play which put the icing on the cake.Overall this was a perfect start to the campaign and the future is very bright for many of the panel of 28.

Mention must be made to the referee Mark Murphy who let the game run seamlessly and explained his decisions to the girls in a manner others should take note of.

Also a big thanks must go to the parents who gave up a deserved bank holiday lie in to travel at such an early time. Mile Buiochas.
