Under 21s in Semi Final...

Our Under 21 football team have qualified for the Championship Semi Final after a good win over Carrigtwohill. We travelled to Pairc UI Cheallaigh in the Cathedral town of Cobh last Friday night to take on Carrig. In what was a highly entertaining match with both sides giving their all, the Rovers came out on top after the final whistle on a score line of 2-12 to 1-10.

The first half saw Carrigtwohill controlling the game for large parts with a resilient Rovers defence holding strong. At half time Carrigtwohill held a lead of 1-06 to 1-02 with the Rovers goal coming from a superbly taken penalty by Dyan Browne.

The second half was dictated by the Rovers with some superb point taking combined with a hard working defence turning the score line around for a well deserved victory. The next match is the East Cork semi final against St. Catherine in Ballynoe this coming Friday night at 7pm and all support is welcome.

The team on Friday night was - Ben Hogan, Eoin Roche, Shane O'Connor, Tom Murray, Griffin O'Keeney Sullivan, DJ Cahill, Matthew Quinn, Conleith Ryan, Brian Roche, Jordan Mannix, Ben Hogan, Conor Barry, Jack Connor, Patrick O'Flynn, Dylan Browne, Shane O'Flynn and John O'Sullivan.

DIVISION 1 COUNTY HL.

We played our first home game in the County Div 1 League on Sunday afternoon last when Glen Rovers were the visitors. With both teams missing Cork players an even game was expected but we got on top early on. In front of a fine crowd we had early points from Barry Johnson - from  frees (2) and from play, from Jason Pratt and Shane O Connor. The Glen had good scores and after twenty minutes we were just a point ahead, 0 5 to 0 4. In the ten minutes before the break we really moved up a gear, scoring 1 6 to a single point for the Blackpool side. Our goal was scored by Brian Roche after great work by Ryan Prendergast. We led by 1 11 to 0 5 at the break. The second half continued in the same pattern.  We added a further 9 points to 4 for the Glen. Final score 1 20 to 0 9. We play Ballinhassig away at 2 o clock on next Sunday March 31st. Team v Glen F. Hogan, F. Collins, L. Forde, M. Liddane, E.Roche, B. Murphy, C. Ryan, S. O Connor, P.O Flynn, M. Collins, J.Pratt, R. Prendergast, B. Roche, S. Glasgow, B. Johnson. T. O Sullivan, C. Barry, G. O Keeney, K. Kearney, C. Howard, DJ. Cahill, C. Howard, J. Connor, D. Buckley, S. Boyce.

UNDER 12's.

Our u12s travelled to Youghal on Saturday 23 to play Youghal in our first league game.
We started well good passing  and it took a bit of time but we got our first point on the board.  Youghal's keeper was in great form and prevented us scoring a number of goals.  Youghal kept in touch point for point and then scored a well worked goal
They tagged on 2 more points to go in at half time 1-5 to 0-4.
We started second half well  tagged on 2 more points but our shooting boots left us and Youghal added another goal from play and 3 more points from frees.
In fairness Youghal were  very  strong and deserved the win, we did well in spells our lads disappointed but we were encouraged by the good periods we had but  just need to keep it up for all the match Final Score; Youghal 2-8 Bride Rovers 0-6.

U11 Football

Bride Rovers U11s played a football match last Saturday against Castlelyons with 21 players in total togging out. The match was very competitive with the game ebbing and flowing with Castlelyons deservedly pipping the Rovers’ boys in the finish. Training continues this week on Tuesday and Thursday with our first hurling match of 2019 scheduled for next Saturday: a home fixture versus St. Vincent’s..

UNDER 14 FOOTBALL.

Bride Rovers U14 team welcomed Kanturk to Pynes Pitch in Rathcormac last Sunday morning 24th. We were hoping to have a little bit more luck than we had in the previous league game against Kilara Og. We started off well in the first with the aid of the wind leading 2-5 to no score at half time. Things got more difficult in the second half when the wind was against us and Kanturk upped their game. Kanturk outscored us in the second half 2-4 to 2-2 but we ended up winning by 4-7 to 2-4. It was a really tough but enjoyable game of football. Looking forward to our next football game away to Mitchelstown on 2nd May.

MINOR FOOTBALL.

Our first home football League game was played in ideal conditions last Sunday.  We were  quick off the mark with a goal from a great run by Ruairi.  We played some great football.
