U21 Ladies Footballers qualify for County semi-final
Our U21 ladies football U21 team qualified for the county semi-final with a good win at home to Carrigaline last week. We started the game brightly and took the lead early on with some good scores from our forward line. Our midfield of Emma Barry and Grace Culloty were well on top and giving great quality ball to our inner forward line of Sophie Dorgan, Katie Quirke and Alannah Broderick. They were causing all sorts of problems for the Carrigaline full back line, with some great link play with our half forward line of Emily Larkin, Fiona Barry and Caoimhe Hazelwood. We fell asleep in the last ten minutes of the first half and this put a lot of pressure on our full back line of Claire Hickey, Rebecca Walsh and Chloe Murphy. They needed the help of our half back line of Aislinn O Connor, Laura Quirke and Caoimhe Kielty to stem the Carrigaline attacks.
In the second half, we started well again but left Carrigaline come back at us but a few good scores form Katie and a cracking goal by Alannah allowed us to run out comfortable winners in the end. The pleasing aspect of this game was the quality of football that the girls played and you can see the benefit of the training that this bunch are doing with the adult teams. It is very encouraging to see the younger players coming to the fore and this is vital for a senior club like ours to have players making the breakthrough to the adult section. Our subs used on the night were Nollaig, Leah, Ava and Emma and each played an important part in the performance and the win on the day. Leah Hallihan also lined out with the Cork U16 football panel over the past 2 weekends against Tipperary and Kerry. At the moment, we are due to play Naomh Aban in the U21 County semi-final at home in Rathcormac on April 8th. Keep an eye on the club text service and come out to support this fantastic bunch of players!
