Well Done Daniel...

It was a proud day for the Club and parish last Sunday when Daniel Dooley played with the Cork Senior Hurling team for the first time. Last autumn John Meyler and his selectors picked an extended  'training panel' which featured the regular Cork players plus a number of new players. Daniel was included in this panel but a hand injury sidelined him for a long period. Last Sunday Cork, the Munster champions, played Limerick the All Ireland champions. Daniel was picked at wing forward and scored two points for the Rebels  before being replaced in the 60th minute. Cork's next game will be a vital one when they meet Tipperary. A win for either team would see them advance to the League quarter finals so hopefully Daniel will be involved again.

Seniors Defeat Kanturk.

Our Senior Hurlers got their Division 1 County Hurling League campaign off to a winning start last Sunday. With the Kanturk pitch unavailable the Duhallow team had the use of their neighbours Newmarket's pitch.  It was Kanturk opened the scoring with a point. After we levelled Kanturk went ahead with a goal and a point. We then took control of the game with points from Ryan Prendergast, Barry Johnson, Brian Roche, Stephen Glasgow to lead by 11 points to 1 5. We finished the half with a great long range point  from Stephen Walsh to lead by  0 12 to 1 5. With our defence on top and Shane and Jason in command at midfield we continued to dominate the second half. Four points from Barry and one from Ryan left us 0 17 to 1 7 ahead. Kanturk got  through for a goal at the three quarters stage to narrow the gap. A goal from Michael Collins after a super pass from Brian Roche helped us to a 1 19 to 2 13 win. A good start, we have games v Glen Rovers, Ballinhassig and Midleton lined up before the Douglas game on April 20th.

Team; S. Knox, F. Collins, M. Liddane, S. Walsh, L. Forde, E. Roche, B. Murphy, S. O Connor, J.Pratt, M. Collins, DJ. Cahill, R. Prendergast, B. Roche, S. Glasgow, B. Johnson, P.O Flynn, K. Kearney, T. O Sullivan.. We have a game v Lismore in Lismore at 5 o clock on this Saturday evening.

We were billed to play Carrignavar in the Est Cork u 21FC last weekend but got a walkover. This was to have been a three team group -Carrigtwohill being the third team, played on a round robin basis. With just 2 teams left now it will be up to the EC Board to decide what way the competition will be decided.
