Scor.
It's fifty years ago since the GAA 'Winter Talent Competition' later called Scor was inaugurated. To commemorate the role played by Fermoy man Derry Gowen the GAA's Coiste Naisiunta Cultur agus Gaeilge held several vents in Cork last weekend. On Saturday at half 12 the Coiste held their monthly meeting for January in the Fermoy GAA Clubrooms. In the afternoon a wreath-laying ceremony took place in Kilcrumper. The Scor National Chairman Aidan Brennan presided and welcomed all present. Former Cork GAA Runai Frank Murphy spoke of Derry Gowen's contribution during a lifetime of service to the GAA. Leas Uachtarain of the GAA Cloyne's Jerry O Sullivan then laid a wreath on Derry Gowen's final resting place. On Saturday night a Gala Jubilee Scor Concert took place in Pairc Ui Chaoimh. It was a magnificent night with participants from all over Munster putting on splendid ceol, amhraniocht, damhsa, scealiocht agus aithriseoireacht. GAA President John Horan and Frank Murphy addressed the fine gathering.
East Cork Scor.
On Sunday night in Lisgoold we participated in the Trath na gCeist, Amhraniocht Aonair agus Leiriu. Siobhan Buckley gave a stirring rendition of 'Danny Boy' in the Solo Singing. In the Table Quiz Orla Arnold, William O Leary, Robert Barry and Mossy O Sullivan acquitted themselves. Our only success came in the Leiriu when Mossy, Orla and William progressed to the County Final on February 9th with a piece on '50 years of Scor'.
