County U21Hurling final on Sunday..

On Sunday next December the 9th we contest our first ever Cork Under Hurling Championship Final IN Pairc Ui Rinn at 1-15pm.Our opponents are either Fermoy or Cloughduv who were down to play last night. It's been a long wait for this Final due to the involvement of both Fermoy and Cloughduv in Munster Club Championship campaigns. Our journey to this Final began in Castlelyons on July the 20th with a 1 17 to 0 13 win over St Catherines. We were due to play Youghal in the Round Robin Group stages in East Cork but got a walk over. This meant we met Castlelyons in the semi final in Dungourney. This game was played on September 4th in Dungourney. We came from behind for a 3 16 to 1 17 victory. The East Cork final v Carrigtwohill was played in Lisgoold on Saturday September 15th, a windy, wet night. We looked likely winners with a three point lead near the end but Carrig got a goal to draw level and then a chance to win it from a free which went wide- Bride Rovers 1 18 Carrig 3 12. The replay was under lights in Ballynoe on September 26th and we won a great Final by  0 126 to 0 8. Three days later we were out in the County and defeated Newcestown by 3 16 to 1 12. Exactly a month later on October 27th we travelled to Riverstown to take on Passage in the County semi-final and won by 3 18 to 2 7. It's been a long wait since but we've not been idle with Minor, College and Senior games since. The backroom team have put in a huge effort with the panel of players since last Spring and it would be mighty to win the County Title for the first time. They don’t come easy so let's hope for a big display from all the players next Sunday. Throw in is at 1.15pm followed by Fr O Neills v Midleton in the premier 1 Final   Go for it lads.

Double County Champions

Premier 2 Minor Hurling League Final

On Saturday we travelled to Pairc Ui Chaoimh to play the final of the Premier 2 Hurling league v Shandrum. This was a repeat of the County Championship Final a few weeks back when we defeated the same opposition in Mourneabbey. Our players have been very active since then, involved in Colleges games with St Colman’s and Colaise an Chraoibhin as well as our u21 Hurlers. We had to line out without or regular goalkeeper Ben Hogan and defender Eoin Roche due to injuries.

This game was played on the new 4G Astro Turf pitch which was a real novelty for most of our players. We started very well and looked to be in command in most positions and moved into an early lead with three points from Conor Barry and one from Edmond Cashman before Shandrum opened the scoring with a point on the ninth minute. Brian Roche operating at left half forward slotted over two more and another free from Conor made it 7 points to 3 on the quarter hour mark. Jordan Mannix Cian Hogan  and Paddy O Flynn added points from play before Brian Roche showed all his class to slip the ball to the net to make it 1.10 to 0.4 on the 23rd minute. Cian Hogan and Conleith Ryan added two more while Shandrum had two of their own before Crosshaven official Brian Coniry blew the half time whistle to see us in a commanding position 1-12 to 0-7. A slight breeze would favour the North Cork boys in the second half but nevertheless it was a nice lead.

Two from frees and one from play by Conor Barry along with a Brian Roche point were added early in the second half, 1-16 to 0-8 on 38 minutes an 11 point lead looked good. Two Goals from Shandrum in the 42nd and 49th minutes turned this game; they outscored us from the 42nd to the 57th minute by 2-4 to 0-1 and drove at us in search of the winning scores. It was now 1-17(20) to 2.12(18). We wondered could we hold on. Brian Roche arrested the slide with a great point but was cancelled out by another Shandrum minor 1.18 (21) to 2-13 (19) two minutes to play. The concession of two frees by Shandrum left the opening for our ace free taker Conor to put valuable daylight between the teams 1-20 to 2-13 before the Crosshaven official blew the whistle and we had completed the double, a fantastic achievement by this group of players and team management. Conor Barry again captained the side and he received the cup from Rebel Og Official Terry Brady. Conor thanked the players and our opponents along with the team management and the supporters for a great year, he also remembered our departed friends Dan Quill and Jim Bob O Donovan.

Thanks to our opponents Shandrum who have been tough nuts to crack all year who have given us great games .However the day and the year belongs to these wonderful players who have given us hours of pleasure and so much more to look forward to in the years ahead. Bride Rovers Abu….Team Shaun Knox, Oisin Roche, Jordan Mannix, Ruairi O Sullivan, Matthew Quinn, Paddy O Flynn, John Buckley, Kieran Kearney, Griffin O Keeney, Conor Barry, Cian Hogan, Brian Roche, Edmond Cashman, Conleith Ryan, Seamus Ahern.

Senior Lose Out To Glen Rovers.

Glen Rovers 2 16 Bride Rovers 2 12.

At the Na Piarsaigh's grounds on last Wednesday night our 2018 Cork County RED FM Senior Hurling League campaign ended. Under light we played Glen Rovers and were beaten by a margin of four points. Minus seven of the team that started v Newtownshandrum in the Championship we got off to a brilliant start scoring 1 4 before the Glen raised any flag. DJ Cahill had a great goal inside the first minute for us. Conleith Ryan, Barry Johnson and Conor Barry - 2 points, one from a free gave us a tonic first ten minutes. Then the game changed as the Glen took over and scored 1 6 without reply to lead 1 6 to 1 4. We finished the half well. Points from Conor and DJ brought us level and two great scores from Brian Roche put us ahead by 1 8 to 1 6 at the break. With Cork star pat Horgan becoming more influential the Glen got off to a great start in the second half. They were 1 11 to 1 8 ahead before Conor put over a free in the 16th minute. A second goal for the Glen put them in the driving seat. Barry Johnson sent a sideline cut over the bar and added one from a free to leave it 2 14 to 1 11after 25 minutes. The Glen went six up but Barry again pointed. Then Barry stood over a free from about forty yards out and sent it to the net. There was only a goal in it now but the Glen got an insurance point to win by 2 16 to 2 12. It was a super game of hurling for the last week of November. Our defence was excellent all through with great hooking and blocking. We probably should have had a few more scores during our first half dominance but overall it was a great display, well done lads. The 2018 Senior Hurling League was great competition for us with many players getting experience at playing top flight hurling and this will certainly benefit us in the future. The Glen will now play Sars in the League semi-final. Team; Frank Hogan, Tadhg O Sullivan, Shane Walsh, Fergus Collins, Jason Pratt, Brian Murphy, Shane O Connor, Barry Johnson, Griffin O Keeney, Michael Collins, Brian Roche, William Finnegan, DJ Cahill, Conleith Ryan, Conor Barry.  Subs: Jesse O Keeffe, Jordan Mannix, Stephen Glasgow, Damien Buckley.
